She wants girls and women to feel like they can be included in public life, but in the same breath makes statements that make countless LGBT Australians feel like they can’t be included in public life? Hypocritical much? Marriage is important, marriage is amazing, and defines our lives, but yet she tells LGBT Australians that they aren’t good enough for it. If she’s moaning over this little questioning, she should try and walk a mile in our shoes.

    1. That There Other David 14 Jun 2013, 10:27am

She’s a nasty piece of work that’s for sure.

    2. I can’t remember is she said that she is against same sex marriage because of her Christian beliefs?

If that is the case the she is incredibly hypocritical as she isn’t even married herself.

She is an awful woman, really is.

      1. Mihangel apYrs 14 Jun 2013, 11:58am

        she’s an atheist

      2. That There Other David 14 Jun 2013, 12:06pm

She’s not a Christian, but her coup against Kevin Rudd only succeeded thanks to lobbying from Christian groups. So she owes favours to anti-LGBT religious bigots.

Or to put it bluntly, she’s thrown us under the bus in her quest for power.

        1. That There Other David 14 Jun 2013, 12:12pm

Oh and BTW, the man she ousted, ex-PM Kevin Rudd, recently announced that he supports the rights of all Australians to marry, including same-sex couples. I sincerely hope he gets the opportunity to stab Gillard in the back at some point in the same way she did to him.

        2. That There Other David

What utter conspiratorial rubbish. One bad turn doesn’t deserve another. This is all besides the point, nothing justifies the insulting questioning by Howard Sattler.

          1. That There Other David 14 Jun 2013, 12:58pm

Nothing does, you’re right. However, why does that prevent me from showing my contempt for Gillard as a person?

And how else would you explain exactly why a supposedly liberal atheist would want to maintain a legal discrimination against people she supposedly is in office to represent?

        3. On the other hand 14 Jun 2013, 12:56pm

So the Christain right wing lobby prefer a PM living in sin, rather than gay people in committed legal lifelong relationships. What a hypocritical bunch.

      3. Charliej95 14 Jun 2013, 2:15pm

Shes now an Atheist but she states her Baptist upbringing is part of the reason why she opposes Marriage Equality.

    3. TheBrutalKremlin 14 Jun 2013, 12:50pm

ANNND everyone rushed to canonize her…

  2. Commander Thor 14 Jun 2013, 10:24am

Australia: the country where you get an award for a talk show where your “prank” causes somebody to kill themselves, and you get sacked for asking if somebody is gay.

    1. The prank didn’t ’cause’ someone to kill themselves.

      1. Agree Dan. While the prank was not a good idea, there must have been other things going on in the nurses life that we don’t k now about.

      2. On the other hand 14 Jun 2013, 12:59pm

Yes it did, and if those dj’s come to the UK they should face charges.

      3. Commander Thor 15 Jun 2013, 5:13pm

Yeah, like homophobic bullying doesn’t ’cause’ kids to commit suicide, and loss of an income doesn’t ’cause’ middle-aged men to commit suicide…they have “other things going on in their lives that we don’t know about”.

Well duh, we all have other things going on in our lives. But an unpleasant experience is all it takes for the drop that breaks the camel’s back, so to speak.

  3. As I said, worst Australian PM I can ever remember – she’s not just uninterested in moving forward progressive politics and equality – she’s actively opposed to it. She has destroyed the Labor party.

If they don’t replace her and very soon it’s all over for them. She may go down in history as the person who put the Labor party in opposition for a decade.

ps. He should sue – he asked perfectly reasonable questions.

    1. Well if what I have read so far about the up-coming election is to be believed, it is anticipated that she will lose the election. If she does, then I suspect there will be a leadership challenge and someone within her party who is a little more free minded may take her place. We can but hope anyway.

  4. what a stupid cow his a hair dresser it must be gay they don’t come any dumber

    1. TheBrutalKremlin 14 Jun 2013, 12:52pm

aww c’mon everyone knows that bun-braiders are nancys!

  5. Is she going to address her homophobia during the incident as well? Or is that just part of the abuse gay people are supposed to take from her hetness?

She’s an excellent champion against sexism and misogyny – but clearly has nothing but contempt for gay people

  6. The sacking is entirely appropriate. Whatever her popularity she still is the Prime Minister and the question was both misogynistic (in the sense that no male Prime Minister would be asked if his partner was lesbian) and homophobic ( stereotypical gay employment ) .

    1. Get over yourself Gwen. The question has nothing to do with women`s rights or any other nonsense. The host was simply pointing out to this moron, how she comes across when speaking of the rights of the Lgbt community. Just giving her a little taste of her own medicine. Prime Minister my ass. She should be the one made to resign for her homophobic views and bigoted remarks toward the Lgbt community. Making them feel like second class citizens in their own country. When are Australians going to stop dragging their knuckles across the ground on this issue and straighten up and fly right.

      1. Heterosexual society has traditionally stereotyped gay men, including the type of professions that are considered to be gay, eg flight attendants, retail assistants and hairdressers. Gay men are usually portrayed in movies and comedy as belonging to these professions. Remember, Julia is an avowed atheist and “living in sin” but chose to side with the Christian fundamentalists over the issue, purely out of political and self interest. The Christian fundamentalists continually attack and vilify gay men, basing many of their anti-gay arguments on bigoted and false stereotypes.
I know Howard Sattler and his wife, both are very nice and I certainly would not consider them to be homophobic. Howard is a direct sort of guy that doesn’t beat around the bush on certain issues. He asked the PMs Office for a candid interview and it was accepted. I don’t think he was trying to reinforce gay stereotypes during the interview but instead was trying to hammer home Julia’s hypocrisy.

        1. The rumours about Julia and Tim are not new and have been circulating for a few years. She agreed to a candid interview, she was asked questions based on stereotype. The shoe was on the other foot and she did not like it. Tough. Maybe next time she will show a little more prudence when it comes to her “political bedmates”.
As for Kevin Rudd. He has done his best to destabilise the ALP over the last three years. The fact that he recently changed his mind regarding ME is nothing more than a ploy to destabilise Julia’s position even further, regardless of the consequences for the ALP. The ALP is in a mess and he must take some of the blame for this.

          1. * the issue being Marriage Equality

    2. Gwen, you are spot on. We have to be mature and call bad behaviour for what it is, even if it is directed towards people we don’t like.

    3. On the other hand 14 Jun 2013, 1:12pm

This is Australian radio we’re talking about! Of course they would ask a male PM such questions. They have zero discretion as we know from the case of the dead nurse.

  7. When is this stupid cow going to pull her head out of her ass and have a look around her. She rails on the Lgbt community and denies their right to be equal in the laws of the land. and gets a little miffed if someone questions her sexuality and that of her boyfriend. really this pig has the skin of a rhino. Australians heed the call, toss this vermin to the curb and seek a real politician to lead you into the 21st century. Not back into the stone age where she would like to bring Australia. As for the radio host a petition should be started to reinstate this brave individual for standing up for equality.

  8. Not sure how I feel about this really.

Should he have leveled this sort of questioning to the PM? Maybe

Should she have just taken it? Yes

Should she complain? No, she should be used to handling tough questions

Should he have enforced further gay stereotypes? Of course not.

I think sacking may be a little over the top. Apparently I have read that he is a bit of a shock-jock so his line of questioning should have been expected to some degree. However, I think that he being forced to issue a public apology would have been better.

    1. He was simply pointing out to her , how ignorance and stereotypical words and talk breed contempt for those we speak of . Such as her views on homosexuality, just holding a mirror up to her for her to look at. But in true bigot fashion she can only see what she wants to see. And the same goes for the radio station . Who believe it is wrong for the host to speak that way to the leader of the land. Hogwash , if you wear your bigotry on your sleeve as this woman does , you need to be called out on it once in a while. You represent an office which is there for the purpose of bringing the best for your countrymen, all of them, and to do it with dignity and style. She brings shame to the office of Prime Minister. Therefore she deserves no respect in the eyes of the public.

  9. Oooo! These career politicians!!! They don’t like it when THEY are made to feel ‘disrespected’. But it’s OK for them to brand gay people as second-class citizens by not allowing them the dignity and equality of marriage. Bloody hypocrites.

  10. From my experience Australians are often very direct in conversation ordinarily anyway.
I consider this question was a reasonable one considering Gillard’s irrational and hypocritical opposition to same sex marriage.
The public deserve to know why as PM she is so totally opposed to marriage equality while she has never presented a strong reason for being so.
Well done that interviewer for asking.
it must have really hit a raw nerve with Gillard.

    1. “I consider this question was a reasonable one considering Gillard’s irrational and hypocritical opposition to same sex marriage”.

You will have to explain the connection to me. While I don’t get Gillard’s negative stance on marriage equality either, but how is that related to stereotyping all male hairdressers as gay ?

I actually know of a couple of male womens hairdressers and both are definitely heterosexual. Based on feedback from gal pals they are apparently very good in the sack.

Why shouldn’t straight men be womens hairdressers if they want ? For those who want then why should they be stereotyped as something they are not. We as GLBTI people should understand that damage of this type of thing more than most.

      1. Because as the radio interviewer pointed out people have been talking about it for some time, he was giving her a chance to refute it.

““But you hear it,” Mr Sattler continued. “He must be gay; he’s a hairdresser. It’s not me saying it.”

        K?

  11. Separated at birth?
I always think Julia Gillard looks kinda like that other closeted lesbian, actress Jodie Foster.

    1. The radio host was probably thinking the same thing. What self respecting heterosexual male, would actually want to live with that in the first place.

      1. Thanks for the update mcshaney, well it’s good she has come out and about time too I guess.

She does don’t she. Youd think they were half sisters or something.

  12. I don’t like Gilliard but the actions of the radio DJ was just plain stupid.

What is it about Australian DJ’s feeling like they need to be shock jocks?

  13. I’m seeing this as just a simple question! Across wide-spread Australia the word is that Gillard herself is Lesbian and that her ‘partner’ is just a hoax to gain votes… This isn’t new information – it’s been ongoing for numerous years.

    1. What crap. Do you even live in Australia? That has never been suggested.

      1. That There Other David 14 Jun 2013, 3:31pm

Never? Really? I find that quite difficult to believe in a nation of 20-odd million.

        1. 23 million is our population actually!

66% of Aussies support marriage equality for everyone – but the problem is that politicians on both the
labor and Liberal side are more outdated and way way behind on public opinion and much more worse than the UK House of Lords!

The Greens are the only party that actually support full marriage equality and control the balance of power in the Australian Senate!

  14. GOOD. I read the transcript and it was a completely stupid question to ask (and he kept persisting too). The rumour that her partner is gay just because he’s a hairdresser? Sorry but what century are we living in again? It wasn’t even a joke, he was dead serious. Do we need such stereotypical questions levelled at world leaders?

I’m no fan of Gillard, but the radio host was an idiot. I’m glad he got the sack.

Ooops — methinks he struck a raw nerve!

It’s not nice (nor safe) to corner a mad snake.
