Whatever the reason, saying that about your boss on a medium that he can see probably isn’t the best idea with regards to staying employed. Ah well, at least he can now go out and get a real job rather than a pretend one :-)

    1. If he holds the living in his parish (i.e. if he’s a rector or vicar, instead of just a priest-in-charge), and if his parishioners support him, then it’s extremely difficult for the diocese to get rid of him, and I think it would take a lot more than him calling the archbishop a w*nker for them to try.

      1. However, if he admitted to having mutually satisfactory sex with another man he’d probably be out pretty damn’ quick, wouldn’t he?

(Just to be clear, I’m not saying Ranshaw is gay, I have no way of knowing one way or the other.)

        1. Probably not, to be honest. There are surprisingly many openly gay Church of England priests living with their partners, often in the sort of Anglo-Catholic city parish where the majority of the congregation are gay too. I doubt you’ll hear them talking openly about having sex with their partners, but how often would you expect to hear straight priests talking about it?

(To be equally clear, I’ve no idea whether Ranshaw is gay; and even if I did know, I wouldn’t say.)

    Me too Justin.

He came in saying he would be open-minded and understood he needed to find out more and have a dialogue with the LGBT community – but within moments he was like Lord Carey. One minute he’s in favor of Civil Partnerships for heterosexuals, five minutes later, with his testicles in the evangelical/traditional vice he’s spouting complete crap and against heterosexual Civil Partnerships. He’s utterly useless if he can’t lead, and he can’t. He now has his own priests calling him what most of us have been calling him for a month or so.

  4. The archbishops and the CofE are w**kers for continually opposing anything gay…what part of being gay have they embraced…they don’t employ gays, they don’t allow CPs to be registered in their churches, they continually oppose any LGBT rights and as for accepting CPs, well maybe, as long as it classed in the same terms as elderly sisters living together..

I could thing of a few stronger words to use that just w**nkers…

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 6 Jun 2013, 6:18pm

I endorse that! Time for disestablishment!

      1. That There Other David 6 Jun 2013, 6:22pm

Yep, they need to be shown the door. No special access to Parliament, to the Government or to the Palace.

Oh, and no state funding for their indoctrination academies. Nor for anyone else’s either.

  5. Couldn’t put it better myself.

  6. Robert in S. Kensington 6 Jun 2013, 6:16pm

Rev Ranshaw is right although I wouldn’t have used the word. I actually had a good laugh although i was in poor taste. I’m glad this is coming out, division in the CoE is a good thing. Welby has no back bone, no integrity to stand up to the loons in his hierarchy like Sentamu . All this posturing about the shameful way the church has treated gay people ought to be matched by deeds and actions instead of meaningless rhetoric in the Lords this week.

I have a suggestion for Welby. Resist Equal Marriage all you want, just let supportive clergy participate in our marriages, just like your sister church, the Episcopalians.

All of this nastiness could have been avoided. But no, Welby and Sentamu are more concerned about the bigoted bishops on the African continent than anything else. He’s a coward.

I keep on saying this, but really, this is time for disestablishment, long overdue. We should make a lot of noise about it.

    1. I totally agree. In fact I believe the issue of gay marriage conducted by Anglican clergy who wish to preside at these ceremonies (and it will come, once the European Court of Human Rights has had its say on the matter!) will be the catalyst for the disestablishment of the Church of England.

  7. Don Harrison 6 Jun 2013, 6:17pm

Joseph and Mary never comsumated their wedding either

    1. Very interesting point.

    2. Bishop Krusty 6 Jun 2013, 6:23pm

That depends on whether you are Catholic or Protestant. References to Jesus’ brothers and sisters are deemed by Catholics to be from a mysterious previous marriage, but Protestants think they are subsequent siblings. You might think this unimportant, but not once you create a doctrine that Mary was always a virgin!

    3. That There Other David 6 Jun 2013, 6:23pm

Doesn’t one of the Gospels mention that Jesus had siblings?

      1. So did she divorce god to marry Joseph or was she a bigamist or worse even was Jesus born out of wedlock and therefore according to the Old Testament cannot join gods congregation LOL

      2. Matthew 13:55-56 “Is not this the carpenter’s son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this [man] all these things?”

Also Mark 6:3 “Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.”

The Roman Catholic church and the Eastern Orthodox churches both take the view that these siblings were in fact half-siblings of Jesus, children of Joseph by an earlier marriage. Both churches believe in the so-called perpetual virginity of Mary (which sounds a miserable fate to me); the Roman Catholics believe Mary and Joseph were married, while the Eastern Orthodox churches don’t. The Protestant churches don’t really go in for Mariolatry, and so don’t really care whether Mary was a virgin; but in general they believe the marriage was consumated.

    4. and Jesus had two dads!
look how he turned out…. well, not the whole crucifixion part… but the not being a bad dude part.

  8. A divided house (based in religion) shall not stand.

  9. Looks like we share a lot in common!

  10. So the wanker is more upset about being called a wanker than anything else. What a wanker!

  11. We are all wankers.

Justin Welby is a vicious bigot.

  12. W@nker, is mild to what my opinion of him has been recently.
He started off all feely touchy lets discuss this, and then reverts to his vile evangelic proscriptive type.
Frankly, it is a disgrace how the CofE is not calling out the homophobic bigots in those African Churches tied to Canterbury who are advocating persecution and if not condoning murder of gay people giving their tacit approval to the conditions and promoting hate speech which encourages it.
Welby has already blood on his hands,
and I do not wish to be associated with a State Church which condones and facilitates that vile behaviour.
    Disestablishment NOW !!
Britain cannot continue to be tied to and associated with such a disreputable “holy” church.
Dis-Establish the Church of England is now the only decent thing to do.
And make sure we remove their PRIVILAGE to act as their own registrar in marriage and DUTY to marry all who live in their parish.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 6 Jun 2013, 8:12pm

Totally agree. Everyone should contact Welby and the bishops at http://www.LobbyAlord.org and let them know that you support disestablishment, the one word that instills fear and trepidation in them. Keep up the ante Try not to resort to foul language although it will be hard for some not to. Otherwise we lose the argument. Don’t stop contacting them and as many Lords as you can up until the third reading. It’s vitally important that we don’t become complacent.

      1. We should push for more than mere disestablishment. When the Welsh dioceses of the Church of England were disestablished in 1920, they were also disendowed. Endowments given to the church before 1662 were deemed to be meant for the benefit of the whole population. A large portion of these ancient endowments were handed over to the University of Wales instead. We should do similarly to the Church of England.

  13. Hang on, so he only gets angry after the church looses its argument. Strange that.

  14. Welby’s a tough guy and I’m sure has had much worse to deal with – so the misadvised insult wont hurt him!

What is so predictable in this little spat is the pompous and bullying threats from the puffed up Rev Arora – a clerical hissy fit from a skirted toady if ever there was one!

  15. A bit intemperate for a member of the clergy, but then it’s no worse than Welby thundering “gay marriage will destroy family life” as a last ditch outburst before it got through the Lords, so, on balance, good for him.

  16. Same sex marriage is COMING SOON whether we like it or not! What’s the big deal? Let’s unite for its passage

  17. Onan’s sin was pulling out of his dead brother’s wife, not masturbating. And for withdrawing before ejaculation, God immediately struck Onan dead. The wife’s reaction is not recorded.

    1. Frustration?

  18. Michaelandfred 6 Jun 2013, 7:33pm

Attendance at his parish will skyrocket! Considering all the name calling and total destruction of society as we know it that they usually heap on us, wanker is pretty mild. And most likely true.

  19. Priest causes row by calling Justin Welby a ‘Wanker’?

For a brief moment I expected it to be followed by ‘drink’ ‘feck’ ‘arse’ and then revealed to be the infamous Father Jack:)

Seriously though, priests are supposed to do their best to follow the ten commandments and one of those is ‘do not lie’. So, maybe he’s only trying to give his honest opinion;)

  20. I have many names I could call this little piece of shyt. Wanker is the least of them . He is nothing but a vile little bigot, who need s to go away now. And take his spawn with him.

  21. It is common knowledge that ALL men w@nk, – if they say they don’t I would suspect they are being economical with the truth. Women do it too.
The only reason that it is an insult is the religious distortion of reality and their insidious insertion into our lives of their controlling ideology. I think it is a very apposite insult for an Archbishop though.
Never personally had a problem with it.

    1. Its nice to have a helping hand though ;)

      LOL

  22. I hate to have to say it but as well-intentioned as they no doubt are the crew who set up lobbyalord.org are wankers too!

I have had such difficulty with the site over the past week! It’s very hit and miss whether it’ll do what it’s supposed to do!

And RIGHT NOW, at this minute, just entering the address lobbyalord.org is answered by a blank screen and the words:

    “Error establishing a database connection”

This just isn’t good enough at this important time!

    Fix it, please, PN!

    1. That really isn’t fair. The guys who did it coded it in their own time (and had nothing to do with PN as I understand it) and in a rush. It may not be perfect but we should be thanking Christopher Ward and others and offering our help, not whinging on the comments pages of PN.

  23. “I just kjnow the Archbishop of Canterbury is a massive mistake” too!

Mr. Ramshaw, you are not alone in kjnowing that the Archbishop of Canterbury IS a massive mistake.

He speaks like a massive mistake. He IS a massive mistake.

  24. Hhahahaha
    I love it..!
    Glorious!
They’re ALL Midland Bankers/ham shankers, the lot of ‘em from the popes down..!
Such a hoo-haa over such a LITTLE thing..!
There MUST be more to their sad, little lives than to pontificate on what two men do, with scarcely a foot of gristle between them..?
SO very glad I gave up on religion, in my case Catholicism, over 50 years ago.
I don’t believe in the concept of sin therefore not in redeemers, nor virgin births, nor white wafers, nor celibacy, nor the glorification of virginity.
Impossible, the lot of it and very dangerous, to boot, as is manifesting itself.
I am a ‘Dinnerist’; I believe in my next dinner and can see no further than that.
SO many on this planet cannot do that. in the meanwhile, these prats argy-bargy about what 2 men do with their bits instead of ditching their laces and silks, donning overalls and physically distributing food to the needy.
    Carry On Up Yer Pews…!
    Daft hunts.
    Prats pratts prattts.
    Keith.
    SALFORD.

  25. But….Welby IS a wanker.

  26. Well…….he is a wanker. I think that Mrs Rev Aurora was a bit po-faced is using the word ‘onanist’. One can imagine her crinkling her nose at the thought of the Archbishop touching his own cock. Sex…..bleugh….

  27. Truth does indeed hurt particularly when very true. Just another forked tonged hypocrite to follow the last one. Good for the Rev Ranshaw..I wish him well. From a long term PCC member.

  28. Fancy calling Archbishop Justin Wanker a welby, whatever next?

  29. Pink News really missed a trick by not using the headline “Bashing the Bishop”.

    1. Yes, happily you’ve managed to work it into the discussion anyway.

  30. Christopher Coleman 7 Jun 2013, 5:43am

“Wanker” is an awfully mild term of abuse, used so frequently that it has no real meaning any more. As for the priest who used the term: shows he is just human. I expect Welby is amused. No doubt he has been called worse. Can’t make your way to top dog position without having received a few bites and nips from your mates.

  31. LOl not a priestly response ?? then you dont know Christ – have you not read what He called others? dogs, bastards, sons of hell( perditions) alot worse than wankers. Maybe the issue is The Most Rev does not wank and has a weak hand???sorry…

  32. Rev. Ranshaw is only saying what we all know anyway!

  33. Bishop Krusty 7 Jun 2013, 10:27am

I look forward to someone raising it on Question Time. Please.

  34. Colin (London) 7 Jun 2013, 2:23pm

Sometimes we are all thinking it and it takes a brave one to say it!

  35. Awww the poor church is sad because a reverend was mean – yet they don’t care one iota at the vicious hate speech they spew against us.

  36. I guess the truth hurts, Welby!

  37. Employment Equality & Marriage Equality Activist Paul Mitchell 11 Jun 2013, 8:34am

    I agree what a wanker!

Just like our politicians and both political leaders right here in Australia on opposing SSM – when the rest of the western world has it!

“Gay marriage is happening, the door is wide open now!”

I remember that excellent line from California from Gavin Newsom in San Francisco!

It is high-time for both employment equality and marriage equality in 2013!

  38. Welby is a ‘WANKER’, how do i press the like button….
