  1. Mr Mulholland, Jonathan Pryor deserves an apology. He was in no way abusive to you and you are a public figure. You should be respectful of the public whom you are a servants of. As a politician you should be used to criticism and if you ant handle it you are in the wrong job.

  2. That There Other David 22 May 2013, 12:31pm

Why the hell do public figures go on Twitter at all? It’s just embarrassment after embarrassment day after day.

  3. Oh my god, he looks like Geert Wilders.

  4. A liberal democrat displaying contempt for a student? Surely not…

  5. Sister Mary Clarence 22 May 2013, 12:54pm

If Mr Mulholland doesn’t like his actions being open to public scrutiny he would probably do well to tender his resignation and hand back his substantial salary.

The words ‘cake’ and ‘eat it’ spring to mind, as do ‘pig’, ‘snout’ and .trough’

  6. I like it when politicians are honest.

  7. Mr. Mulholland should absolutely have chosen his words more carefully, especially given his position as an MP. But what often gets pushed to the back of our minds is that MPs are human, like us, and sometimes they have lapses of judgement in behaviour and speech – I’m sure each of us has something we’ve said, or posted online, that we really regret and, while MPs need to be more cautious about such things, the position can’t magically change human behaviour.

We also may be unaware of some important context here – had the student been harassing Mr. Mulholland for some time? Had the accusation that his rather sensible, France-style amendment was a wrecking amendment (which I’ve even seen on comments here), or would destroy marriage, been repeated one too many times for Mr. Mulholland to keep his composure? I don’t condone the language or tone Mr. Mulholland chose in his reply, but I can’t condemn the man for being an ordinary, fallible human.

  8. MPs don’t give a crap about students or young people. Patronising git showing his true colours…
