  1. “Traditional marriage” a meaningless phrase, undefined (please please say “biblical” so we can laugh at your ignorance of your own vile and filthy dogmatic instrument) and really only a smokescreen for the bigoted to hide behind.

Looks like a bigot, sounds like a bigot, acts like a bigot IS a bigot. It really is that bloody simple.

    1. bobbleobble 21 May 2013, 4:58pm

He can’t even say Biblical marriage because marriage in the Bible is never properly defined. Essentially he’s chosen an arbitrary definition of marriage, decided that his version is ‘traditional’ as if that in itself gives it some virtue and then seeks to defend that.

      1. Laughing at you skip rat, the Bill just passed the 3rd reading in the House of Commons. We won you lost, get over it.

        1. But it does skip rat, but it does make a difference because now you will have to whip the flesh off your back and die a little more each day every time you see a gay person being happy. That skip rat makes me happy to know you are not. Laughing at you skip rat you lost we won and we will keep winning against scum like you. Now off you pop back to the sewer.

        2. as I am heter-normal and already have always the facility of marriage available

Aww, bless you Keith my love. However, I suspect most “heter-normal” people wouldn’t really want you on their side, and I have a very strong suspicion the “facility of marriage” has never actually been available to you.

Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong.

  2. What a childish comment for him to add at the end and not even original, he can’t even make something up himself but has to resort to stealing a line from Stonewall and then paraphrase!

Again, I praise Victoria Munro for her letter to him in the first place.

  3. So in other words, he completely avoided the question

  4. The interesting point is that biblical marriage isn’t one man and one woman. The first record that I can find of a polygamous marriage in the bible is Genesis 4:19 which talks about a man and two women. Oddly enough, some people like to use Genesis 4:1-2 to justify one man, one woman. If only they would read further…

    1. I find the Patriarch Jacob is a useful starting-point for discussions about Biblical marriage: he married 2 sisters, his first cousins, and had a total of 13 children by them and their 2 serving-maids.

Not quite the nuclear ideal promoted by “Christians”, is it?

  5. Burrowes is a homophobic extremist who belongs in the BNP.

    He is sheer evil.

Cameron needs to rid his party of these talibanic MP’s

  6. bobbleobble 21 May 2013, 5:02pm

I’m waiting for your private member’s bill to outlaw divorce, to make marital rape legal again and to remove the right of women to own property once they’re married.

Or do you simply support your own arbitrary definition of traditional marriage I which case you’re talking rubbish.

  7. Robert in S. Kensington 21 May 2013, 5:04pm

It’s similar to letters I received from Tory MPs, Edward leigh and Craig Whittaker, dismissive and contemptuous.

    1. Beelzeebub 21 May 2013, 5:20pm

These cretins only exist in the fug of their own farts.

They cannot see any opinion other than their own.

  8. GulliverUK 21 May 2013, 5:09pm

Whether he is anti-gay isn’t for HIM to pronounce, but up to other people.

I say he’s homophobic, he is not fit to be in Parliament, he puts his religious wingnuttery before anything else. He lacks common sense and reasoning – ideally he won’t get re-elected.

  9. We don’t have to ‘get over’ anything. It was his amendments that went down like a Parliamentary Hindenburg.

  10. Tradition by definition flows and metamorphoses as a society develops. So ‘traditional marriage’ is a mixture of historical practice and whatever a society at the time sees fit for it to be. People like David Burrowes want to throw a spanner in the works by taking an arbitrary snapshot of history (a heavily photoshopped one…) and holding onto it, claiming that it is the only legitimate state of things.

We hold onto the bits of tradition that make us happy and abandon the bits that were the result of ignorance and hatred. We then leave a better tradition behind for our children.

  11. Beelzeebub 21 May 2013, 5:19pm

What a spineless little stink-bug this creep is.

    Fair enough.

He is a supporter of “his” definition of “traditional” marriage.

But that does NOT give him the right to deny CIVIL marriage to anyone.

  12. It would be a lot easier to “get over it” if this idiot weren’t an MP.

As it is, he should bloody well put up and shut up when challenged on his absurd views.

  13. Alan Baker 21 May 2013, 5:40pm

This moron is merely playing to the gallery tha the Tory activists, so recently and aptly described as ‘mad swivel eyed loons’. The answer to him is to ensure that at the next election, he is sent back to the the sewer that he emerged from.

    1. Martin from N13 21 May 2013, 7:51pm

Well, I’m a member of his Constituency Party and I can’t stand him. Worst of all he strong armed the Association to have him reselected this year in March before this little performance. I have spoken to many other members and we plan to oust him. Feel free to join en-masse and come to the AGM next year and vote him out! It is time to vote for common sense. There are alternatives to this man, some of the local Councillors would make brilliant alternatives.

  14. So – presumably he’s in favour of ALL biblical ‘traditions’ (slavery, burning of witches, stoning of aldulterers) or just those that push self-hatred into the background?

  15. Note the use of the word Traditional in place of ‘normal’ or ‘hetro only’ –

for example I am not hetrophobic – I am a ‘traditional’ gay!
or ‘That’s David Burrowes, he’s a traditional Ass Hole’

  16. You are a disgusting, miserable excuse for a human being, David Burrowes. Get over it!

  17. Even if we have equal marriage by the time of the next election we must make sure that extremists like Burrowes are voted out.

They are not fit for public office due to their evil bigotry.

David Burrowes should move to Uganda.

  18. How damn witty. Are you proud of yourself, mocking an equality slogan to denigrate a teenager, Mr. Burrowes? Is this your morality? Your standard?

personally I will not “get over” people being bigots and trying to refuse our rights

  19. I have never seen a more annoying grin.

I don’t advocate violence… but don’t you just feel like punching his smug little face?

    1. Midnighter 21 May 2013, 9:03pm

I see a striking resemblance with Tim Nice-but-Dim if that helps you put him into perspective :)

  20. Easy. Vote for his opponents next time.

  21. Tom (Winnipeg) 21 May 2013, 8:56pm

You lose buster. Get over THAT!

  22. People should remember this when in five years time him and his ilk are using the groveling ‘of course we support gay marriage now…’ line, as they do and have done with CPs, age of consent, adoption and all the rest of it. Oppose every step towards equality and then pretend you’re fine with it when you realise subsequent consensus has formed around the issue through the passage of time.

  23. friday jones 21 May 2013, 10:51pm

David Burrowes to interracial couples: “I am a supporter of traditional marriage. Get over it!”

By the way, isn’t it “traditional marriage” to arrange weddings between 13-year-old girls and 40+-year-old men, with an exchange of money, livestock, and other durable goods as part of the deal? Why would anyone defend TRADITION, when tradition usually sucks harder than the vacuum of space?

  24. Tim Hanafin 16 Jul 2013, 10:26pm

    Typical Tory-boy knobhead.
How satisfying it is today when the bill only now needs royal assent
