Why is this on pink news, it is not a gay related story, it’s about listening figures. There is no indication that who he is has any baring on this.

  2. maybe his just crap and the listeners have gone elsewhere

That is certainly is true in my case. Whatever the sins of his predecessor, he didn’t pull any punches about what he thought of the commercialised crap R1 DJs have to play. My impression is that Nick is either too ‘corporate’ or wet behind the ears just yet to push back against the suits. I daresay experience will help, but when he’s matured in the role enough to do right by the listener, no doubt he’ll just get conveniently moved on for being “too old” like Scott Mills was.

Maybe it has a homophobic listening audience. Who really cares?

    1. Despite pink news’ pathetic attempt to link this to his sexuality, it’s really rather unlikely to be the case.

If ever a face was made for radio its Nick Grimshaw’s.

  5. I like Nick Grimshaw, I think he’s funny! So there!

  6. I don’t listen to radio 1 any more because I’m not a fourteen year old.

    1. The average age of a radio 1 listener is much older than that. It’s also older than its target demographic, apparently.

I don’t listen because it awful. If you’re unlucky enough to work somewhere that has it on all day, (as I have in the past), you have to listen to the same few songs repeated every three hours. It’s like purgatory.

      1. Pretty much like commercial radio then! And don’t get me started on the sport orientated, car fuelled pap that Chris Evans bangs on about every bloody morning. And he’s not gay!

        1. I can’t stand that man. They play radio two in my Dr’s waiting room, if you have a morning appointment, it’s like someone’s deliberately trying to make you feel even worse.

I can’t imagine why anyone would elect to listen to any radio tbh. I spent my youth listening to John Peel until he died, since then radio has seemed like a special form of torture. Commercial radio has the added irritation of commercials with terrible jingles for things like double glazing.

  7. What do you expect when listening to that drivel or perhaps am turning into an old granny – which could be the case but either way the show is rather painful to the ear.

  8. theres something about his voice that puts me off listening

  9. he’s too cool for school

I watched his tv programme last night and was struck by this.

then switched to bbc 4 and it was “best of Kenny Everett”. he was great – seemed to care a lot less about his image, and a lot more about being as entertaining as possible.

(I don’t have a tv and was in a hotel, which is why I haven’t seen it before)

and much as I don’t really like chris moyles, I couldn’t accuse him of worrying about his image over entertainment either

    The old “linked statistic” fallacy.

FACT: Nick Grimshaw is losing listeners.
    FACT: Nick Grimshaw is gay.

SUPPOSITION: Nick Grimshaw is losing listeners because he is gay.

Did it cross anybody’s mind that maybe his audience is dropping off simply because he is crap?

  11. It’s nothing to do with his sexuality, but more to do with the fact that he’s actually pretty crap at the job. He’s not funny, he’s not hip, he’s nowhere near as entertaining as he thinks he is and he’s woefully underequipped for the job. He’d be better off flipping burgers at a van in Glastonbury
