  1. “His Eminence Cardinal Keith Patrick O’Brien … will be leaving Scotland for several months for the purpose of spiritual renewal, prayer and penance.”

Did you mean: ‘spa club membership renewal, fellatio and porn’?

  2. Looks like Keith has become the first fatality in his own self-declared war.

  3. Again the church covers and protects these perverts. He spoke about gay people in a vile way and there he is touching men up. Should be de frocked -not allowed to continue as if he as done nothing

Shut up! Covering what up? No one knows who they are preheat is alleged! The legal authorities are not pursuing this because there isn’t anything to pursue.

I’m getting tired of this sanctimonious drivel!

  4. It’s going to take more than months to spiritually renew that screwed up abuser.

    1. I don’t even know what “spiritual renewal” means in this case. What result to do they want?

That he quietly disappears into obscurity, if they’ve any sense.

St. Helena would be an ideal destination — I hear they have wonderful beaches for him to frolic on while “renewing” himself. And very little chance of papparazzi there to record his “penance” rituals.

  6. Just Roman catholic speak for we now wish he did not exist..

  7. As part of his penance and absolution the man should have to go to every Catholic Church, school and institution in Scotland to give a full account of his actions and beg for forgiveness.

However rumour has it the Holy See is sending him to Mykonos to spread the Good News to his Orthodox brothers. No doubt he will do so in the Greek fashion.

  8. Any Roman Catholics here? Will somebody please explain why he is still a Cardinal ?

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 15 May 2013, 4:26pm

As a former Catholic, from what I know, only the Pope can force him to give up his title. It may well happen once a replacement for him is found, probably Archbigot Nichols of Westminster. It’s quite possible he may voluntarily renounce it once that happens.

I wonder where he will be banished for several months? Hopefully not Rome, can’t have him frequenting that Vatican owned gay sauna can we? Or can we? He may end up in exile in Africa or Latin America.

I’m sure he’d rather go south of the border and stay in England or return to his native N. Ireland.

I don’t know if it’s me, but I’ve noticed a much welcomed but deafening silence among the UK catholic hierarchy since this can of worms was opened. Archbigots Davies of Shrewsbury, Smith of Birmingham and Nichols of Westminster surprise me since they’re the three ring-leaders in opposition to equal marriage with the biggest mouths.

  9. Does anyone know if he is still being investigated by the police? Or is this yet another cover up by the cult of Rome

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 15 May 2013, 4:29pm

Not as far as I know. None of the victims have gone to the police and probably won’t. Three of them who are currently priests could face retaliation by their respective bishops. They have a long tradition of silencing their own at all costs and in fact, ordinary catholic priests are the only ones they excommunicate for challenging church teaching. They wouldn’t dare do it to the laity for fear of a backlash and firestorm against the church. They’re very cunning and manipulative but also very corrupt.

Just shows what a joke this whole religion crap is….abuse someone and get off with it and get rehomed free with the Popes blessing….you couldnt make it up….

  11. It should be illegal to fire someone because he is gay.

But churches always demand exceptions to civil law, and in this case, I won’t argue.

  12. He’ll not see Calton Hill or Hampstead Heath again.

  13. Hold on! The other week the “dramatic” news came through that the Vatican was dealing with O’Brien BY FORCING HIM TO QUIT SCOTLAND, presumably forever.

Now we hear that the most this man is going to be subjected to is a couple of months of spiritual renewal.

The “penance” referred to will no doubt entail no more than him being expected to kneel over his bed and tell the Big Pixie in the Sky that Keith is very very sorry.

  14. In other words, transferred to a new jurisdiction where he can commit the same crimes all over again.

  15. Why do we afford them the courtesy of a made up title? His name is Keith O’Brien. Their titles are nothing more than man made delusions.

    1. So are names, if we’re going to be strict about it.

  16. A nice idea would be for him to tell the pope to get stuffed and spend the rest of his life visiting as many gay bars as he can. Come out, come out who ever you are.

  17. Mr. O”Brien.
    Dump the ferkin’ lot…!
Get yourself a wee boyfriend, take whatever pensions you can and flog whatever church plate you can and burger off to the other side of the world and end your days in anonymity and peace. Sod the lot. Remember Roddy Wright? Archbishop of the Isles? Take a leaf out of his book.
I left the RCC over 50 years ago for precisely this (homosexuality) issue; never looked back.
The RCC is sex sex sex sex sex obsesssssed.
