While appearing on Australia’s 2Day FM, Jay McGuiness, of the band The Wanted joked that most of his band mates would “dabble” with gay sex.

“I think most of us would probably have a dabble,” Jay said followed by The Wanted’s Tom Parker quickly saying “speak for yourself.”

Jay was responding to a question on recent comments made by gay former N’Sync singer Lance Bass, who was talking about rival boy band One Direction.

Lance said: “Statistically speaking… one of them probably is. But it’s crazy with a market like that because [it’s] 100% young women and they fantasise about these guys and then you have the record labels and everyone [is] grooming you to make sure you don’t even mention you have a girlfriend… so screw the fact that you are going to come out as being gay – it ruins their whole business plan.”

Last month, The Wanted’s Tom Parker tweeted Louis Tomlinson with a reference suggesting the 21-year-old One Direction star was in the closet, and should come out.

Alluding to rumours around Tomlinson’s sexuality, despite having a long term girlfriend, Parker wrote: “I’ll enjoy the press even more when you come clean #narnia #itgetsbetter.”

Wheatus, the band of Teenage Dirtbag fame, weighed in on the argument, tweeting: “Homophobia is the ugliest kind of jealousy. #evil.”
