  1. Florida, lovely state with some sadly bigoted fools in positions of power. Mostly I have been treated well by the normal people of Florida.

Well, I lived in this area off and on most of my life (I prefer my home, which is Boston) and to be honest, Florida is not a place to be LGBT. The bigotry there is off the chart, verbal and physical assaults are so common they aren’t even reported. Stay the hell away from Florida except for Ft. Lauderdale, and never ever go to the Caribbean….all the islands are filled with ignorant bigots who feel it’s their duty to kill anyone perceived as being LGBT. Don’t spend money that will be used by our self-described enemies to hurt our people….

In fact the US South is filled with bible-thumpers who make life hell for LGBT people…stay away from any state in the South if you’d like to have a ‘nice’ vacation, without the drama the bigots bring to us….warning, bigots rarely come in ones, usually it’s more, sometimes MANY more and no matter how strong you are, one cannot overcome such numerical superiority. Beating and killing LGBT people is a sport in the US South, rather like killing black people once was (and still is)….these places do not change, believe me….I’ve spent many years out and proud in such places and it is a most difficult life, too much for many…unless you are among the strongest of strong, avoid it for more pleasurable, friendlier places.

Disappointed but banning something the young adults think is right will not succeed. If anything it will create determination and defiance, creating a backlash to those adult inflicting discrimination.

  4. Hit ’em where it hurts – in the pocket. Boycot it and get everyone you know to do the same until they relent and move into the 21st Century. Average of Florida resident? 147. Is it any wonder they side with nonsensical, irrational religious beliefs? Stay away from Florida until these ancient bigots have gone to meet the maker they are so convinved exists.

Ft. Lauderdale is in Broward County. Don’t forget Miami in Dade County, they’re open to GBLT persons, as is Palm Beach County.

I hope the ACLU hits that school district where it really hurts them, right in the wallet.

Allow the Gay-Straight-Alliance club or end ALL Extracuricular clubs.

  7. I’ve blogged about this ordeal extensively; if anybody is interested, the latest post is called “Too Young to Be Straight?” and is available at The story links to additional stories from Lake County, including one story about a School Board member questioning a 14-year-old student’s sexual orientation.
