  1. She’s right, it should be a full time, separate post, not something passed around at any opportunity!

One could argue that equalities affects every aspect of life so it should be wholly integrated with other Government Departments (albeit with separate units) rather than a one-off Department. Otherwise you duplicate the Cabinet Office, having another “policy policing” unit like the Government Equalities Office was.

  2. So Mensch seems not so much to be advocating for we LGBTs and that we should have a separate ministry and our minister, but that she wants a women’s equalities ministry to be separate from and not associated with other equalities groups, such as LGBTs.

Hmmm. Basically she doesn’t want the issue of women’s rights lumped in with LGBT rights.

    1. Eddy, I think you have totally misinterpreted what Louise Mensch is advocating.

Just as women have a voice in government so should our community.

Surely it would be the best and most effective way to challenge discrimination and inequality. It can all be in the same department but just a minister for our community for our rights.

Absolutely right. Women And equalities is rather non-specific and I think in order to create and produce openness the LGBT communities do need a separate to speak on LGBT issues.

This should be as well as a Women’s Minister but just as the minister exists because of discrimination and inequalities for women one should also be appointed for Gay Right/Human Rights.

  4. Stop press, Louise Mensch has a sensible idea.

  5. Why?

surely the best person for the job is what counts

  6. What’s her angle?

  7. Combining women and LGBT I think you will find this issue would directly relate to well over 50% of the population. Given the violence perpetrated against

    Lwomen and LGBTs in our
society is rather high and violent acts would

constitute criminal acts and unemployment would be a major concern to women

and LGBTs I have to ask
WTF are you going on about?

Also without a decimal point all those zeros are redundant. The number one is simply 1.

Furthermore she is not a minister but a former MP.

As to describing the woman as an idiot…sounds like pot calling kettle….

    1. Sorry about all the spaces and gaps above. I am doing this on a mobile and its proving to be a little tricky.

    2. The comment I responded to has vanished… How can this happen?

A good idea to have a separate Ministry to cover all social equality and discrimination issues. And, as she says, the minister does not have to be a woman.
