Rupert Everett accidentally swore on live television earlier on Thursday as he re-told the story of how he was convinced he had contracted HIV during the 1980s.

“For the first few years of HIV, you couldn’t test for it. When my whole career started I thought I was on a death sentence,” the actor said as a guest on ITV’s Loose Women.

“I remember once I was doing this mini-series called Princess Daisy. You can see it in the film, I was bitten by a mosquito.”

He added: “I looked at the mosquito bite and thought, ‘Fuck, this is it!’”

Everett then realised what he had said, adding: “Sorry everyone!”

Co-host Carol Vorderman apologised to viewers, saying: “We do apologise for some fruity language.”

In an interview with the Sunday Times in January, the gay actor said he became “a slut” because he was furious with his Catholic faith.

Everett caused outrage last year when he said: “I can’t think of anything worse than being brought up by two gay dads.”
