  1. So the scouts would say that being gay makes you “immoral” and “unclean” once you are 18, but not before? Or something like that? What’s the thinking (if any) behind that? – Mike
    More here:

  2. The issue is safety. It’s been shown that over 80% of the ‘abuse’ cases by the priests are actually homosexual in nature. Also consider the fact that the majority of scouting units are supported by religious organizations, the decision only makes sense.

You are confusing homosexuality with paedophilia/hebephilia.
I hope you can educate yourself and free yourself from religious intolerance and bigotry.

    2. So what if 80% of abuse cases are homosexual in nature? That doesn’t mean 80% of homosexuals go around abusing people. Or that that statistic holds for the rest of the population. “Supported by” doesn’t mean “run by”, does it?

    3. It has been shown that 100% of abuse cases by the priest are actually perpetrated by PRIESTS. Too bad the priests are supported by religious organizations! Don’t you dare speak our good name in the same breath with theirs!

        Brilliant answer !

        1. Thanks. Pointing out the obvious to dense bigots is such sport; don’t you think :)

    4. You’ve drawn an illogical conclusion.

The majority of cases are male/male. However, the vast majority of abusers identify as heterosexual. They do not want to have relationships with men (ie gay relationships) they want to abuse children (ie sex offenders).

Furthermore, the New York Times reported “the abuse decreased as more gay priests began serving the church”.

    5. What planet are you living on?

Statistically speaking, gay people are LESS likely to be abusing children so it would be safer to have gay folk running these things. Then the children would be much safer.

Take your head out of your arse love!

  3. Once again someone trying to equate homosexuality with peadophelia. There is no corolation. Mary are you that ignorant. Then your next statement is that scout units are supported by religious groups. Therefore it only makes sense not to allow gays into scouting. Why because you believe most religious groups are run by Gays who are therefore peadophiles. You need to have your head examined my dear.
First of all 100% of all abuse cases were commited by Peadophiles. If you do not understand what that is I suggest you look up the word. While it may be true that some religious orders or groups may have a gay or lesbian community within them. This does not mean that therefore the abuse taking place is being commited by that community. It is more likely to be perpetrated by hetrosexual beings within the organization not the other way round. As many studies have proven. First you have to understand what peadophelia is before you make blatant and disgusting bigoted remarks.

  4. What kind of Pretzel Logic is this now.OMG. WTF. Is this the best they can come up with. Is this the only thing they can shove forward to hide behind .Are they really this ignorant and stupid and bigoted and arrogant to believe anyone other than them ( BSA board of directors) could possibly fall for this load of complete horseshit. Is this really what they think equal means. To allow gay members into the organization but not the gay adults who need to be there to protect them from this Homophobic Hetrosexual Scourge which will be given exclusive rights to abuse these young people.Without any oversite from the community at large. We are going to allow Gay kids to be influenced by a leadership who thinks this is the way to proceed. That they will be welcome but their parents and gaurdians and neighbours those that are gay adults are not welcome. This is exactly like allowing the Fox to look after the Henhouse. If they can present this as their policy, and the people not be outraged . OMG.

Another attempt to rob youth of positive gay adult role models.

  6. floridahank 20 Apr 2013, 3:16am

Let’s look at a hypothetical case, but has a realistic factor in it.
A scout troop knowing admits a homosexual male as a scout leader and later that male is accused of molesting a young boy — don’t you think the parents of the youngster would sue the scout troop for permitting the gay person into the organization? This is separate from labeling homosexuality and peadophelia — it’s looking at a possibility because of all the sexual abuse taking place in all kinds of situations.

    1. You win the idiot of the year award 2013!

      1. floridahank 21 Apr 2013, 3:29am

Please eloborate on your comment. It doesn’t mean anything by itself.. With sexual abuse such a sensitive issues, don’t you think parents would make a big deal if a homosexual adult scout leader abused a youngster — especially based on the fact that the organization knowlingly admitted/accepted a gay leader. I don’t think you understand the societal argument that continues to be a huge issue.

        1. DCBrighton 21 Apr 2013, 6:45am

You are saying that gay men shouldn’t be scout leaders just in case they abuse a kid and then the parents would be upset. You are saying that all gay men can’t be trusted around children. You completely misunderstand sexual abuse, which is mainly an act of power, control and violence and not about homosexuality or heterosexuality. You definitely are the idiot of the year.

    2. bobbleobble 20 Apr 2013, 5:19pm

Actually it’s exactly the same as comparing homosexuality and paedophilia. What you’re saying is that the possibility of one gay man molesting a child means that all gay men should therefore be excluded. The fact of the matter is that it doesn’t matter what the sexuality is of the person committing child molestation, the organisation is going to get sued for not protecting the kids just as the catholic church has discovered or do you think that they’re getting sued because of their hiring of openly paedophile priests? It is also pointed out above that the vast majority of cases of child molestation are carried out by men who identify as heterosexual, paedophilia is a crime of opportunity which is why so much of it is withint families.

The real danger here lies not with openly gay volunteers but with the assumption that self identifying heterosexuals are somehow safe.

  7. They are NOT going to provide strong gay men as role models and allow gay youth so they can continue to shame them into hating who they are? I think this is a step backwards not forwards. If they, or make that when they, fail to change those young homosexuals by the time they turn 18 they will then give a final insult that you are no longer welcome here because we were unable to correct your moral failings. I don’t see how that’s better!

  8. Rather than banning gays and lesbians from being members or participating in the BSA. Why not a ban on religious groups being able to sponsor or have affiliation with the BSA. I think this is a much better choice. Then they won’t be allowed to influence the BSA with their homophobic drivel in the first place. Make it a requirement that all BSA organizations and sponsors be secular in nature. Similar to what it is like in Britain and Canada. Thus avoiding this problem in the first place.

    1. Oh! I got one the NRA and the reprugnicants will love. Why not arm each of the boys scouts with firearms that way if any pervert touches them, they blow their f-ing head off. Everybody’s happy now!

  9. Hmmmmm, they want to compromise, but this is nothing like a compromise.
