Please don’t legalise homosexual ‘marriage’ Australia! You mustn’t sanction this abominable behaviour! I was hoping to emigrate to Oz one day, seeing as Britain is sinking into the North Sea :(

Best you emigrate to Saudi Arabia. It’s the only country that is guaranteed not to equalise marriage during your lifetime.

There are several flights to Riyadh daily from Heathrow. Would you like a hand packing your stuff?

    2. You sincerely believe “Britain is sinking into the North Sea”?

You are seriously mentally ill. You suffer from delusions. Seek medical help immediately. Check in with your GP first. He or she will direct you to a psychiatric professional.

      Hurry!

      1. That There Other David 19 Apr 2013, 12:01pm

It is, sort of. The British Isles are tilting on the tectonic plate. Scotland, Ireland and Wales are getting higher up, Eastern and Southern England lower.

As this process has been going on for millions of years though, it’s highly unlikely to have anything to do with current government policy decisions ;-)

    3. Is ‘Wrath of God’ a self-hating religious nutter … or perhaps a Tory? Either way, I think the UK would benefit from you emigrating ….. anywhere.

  2. Mr. Abbott speaks about “the post election party room”. See the following link for the sweet sweet taste of triumph in “the post campaign party room” in New Zealand! Let’s hope we too will be celebrating in a similar manner here in the UK, in France, and eventually in Australia!

Abbott will say anything right now to win this election. He has no intention of changing his party’s stance.

Politicians like him really are the vilest people you can encounter.

    1. Abbott has already won the election…the whole country, including the Australian Labor Party, knows it. This concession, however small it may seem, is quite remarkable for Abbott, who is a staunch Roman Catholic.

      100 % correct !!!

      1. Klaus Tomanke 19 Apr 2013, 11:09pm

and as soon as he is in power (should he get there), he will go back on his word!

  4. Typical cowardly political stalling … trying to read the public mood before deciding what they believe. Have the guts to follow your neighbours (New Zealand) and support ‘equality’.

  5. Robert in S. Kensington 19 Apr 2013, 12:11pm

Another bloody political opportunist. No thanks, Abbott. To all our Australian brothers and sisters, I urge all of you to mobilise and push for voting these religious bigots out of office. Get the message out, loud and clear before September.

  6. talk about hedging your bets.
    Liberal ?

    1. It’s a colossal irony that the conservative party in Oz is called Liberal, but I believe it originally referred to its economic ideals.

Most Liberals are anything but, by today’s more widely-understood definition.

  7. This is the man who would “…do anything to be Prime Minister, short of selling my arse”.

The guy is a liar, misogynist and total jerk, and that’s being nice. If anyone believes any of the shit dribbling from his mouth, they’re as stupid as he is.

    1. I think you are confusing Abbott with “lie through my teeth, stab you in the back” Gillard.

      1. This joke was doing the rounds in Oz last year:

A lesbian, a lawyer, a liar and a crook walk into a bar.
The bartender says “What will it be Ms Gillard?”

As with MT this woman is history.

  8. Pavlos Prince of Greece 19 Apr 2013, 2:39pm

The only really important question for future of same-sex marriage in Australia is: will this became an strong part in the platform of Labor party, instead “free vote”, and if yes, when ? Only after “Gillard vs. Rudd” epoch, or earlier ? Because “Liberal party” is an Conservative one, very clear majority of them is and all ways will be homophobic, and the “conscience vote” will change here absolutely nothing: they will vote against it, theoretical possibility of “conscience vote” is only formality and nothing more.

    1. The Australian Liberal Party is pretty much neoconservative these days, the odds of Abbott agreeing to marriage equality is nil.

      1. Pavlos Prince of Greece 19 Apr 2013, 3:51pm

What about newest support for gay marriage of Barry O’Farrell, Liberal Prime Minister of New South Wales ? And Liberal mayor of Melburn as well ?

  9. (“He remains opposed to marriage equality and says it should be “between a man and a woman”.”)

And the reason behind the incomplete bumper sticker slogan Tony Abbott cites is…. what exactly?

Marriage should be between a man and a woman ….because?

    1. Should be a *what* between and man and a woman?

That’s the part they always leave out.

  10. Tony Abbott is to be congratulated for his back flip on same sex marriage particularly because he knows that by doing so he has destroyed any chance the Coalition had of winning the Senate at the next election. Family First, the DLP and Bob Katter will take care of that. Well done Tony.
