He’s only a state senator, not a US senator but it still boggles the mind how someone with this level of ignorance can get to any position of power at any level in any country.

There’s just so much idiocy in what he says it’s hard to know where to begin. And this is the problem with so much of the opposition to gay rights. These arguments that they come up with are simply what they hope to be an acceptable gloss over their real reasons for opposing gay rights – they think gays are icky, the thought of anal sex creeps them out (or turns them on which probably frightens them even more) and they just plain hate us. But they can’t say those things so they come out with all this guff that they don’t really believe which is why they make such a hash out of it when they spout it.

And why are these clowns always focused on sex? And anal sex at that.

just look at his face, that says enough, ” because they base their lives on ‘youth, beauty and sex” sounds a bit jealous to me

  2. Two more from the identikit arguments against gay marriage.
STDs are an argument for safe sex, and that applies whether you’re gay or straight.

They’re not a compelling case for going through the motions of a sham marriage to someone of the opposite sex.

As for a shallow lovelife built around sex, beauty and youth, I think he just made a compelling argument FOR gay marriage.
It’s funny that GOP wingnuts object to gay people due to our perceived promiscuity and shallowness, yet the moment we decide to get serious and commit to a lifelong relationship they’re against that too.
I wish they’d make their f**king minds up.

    1. Perfectly stated. The sham marriages your talking about is termed “Lavender Marriages”. Bumper sticker: “Help end the emotional pain and suffering do to forced lavender marriages, let gays marry whom they really love.”

I had heard his boyfriend has left him for a younger man.

Republican senators have just blocked any reform of America’s gun laws, these right wing morons are the real threat to society.

  5. when you’re looking for assholes in the usa, your best bet is to start off in the midwest. for some reason this swath of the country excels in these phenomena. this said, there are also tons of fantastic people there as well, people you’d want to have as friends and neighbours.

  6. “Lifestyles”. ‘Nuff said.

Actually, it’s probably more pertinent to explore the degree to which the media – Hollywood in particular – has bamboozled us into believing in the seldom-challenged notion that coupledom (specifically heterosexual coupledom) is the only worthy and desirable aim in life.

    1. I think that myth is the direct creation of the Catholic Church, first imposed by threat of dead in the Middle Ages then by threat of excommunication (“you’re going to hell”) and in our times imposed by the media as the only “acceptable” way in “Society”.

  7. The bamboozling is coming from religious zealots, self-appointed gay experts, who preach fear and rely on the ignorance of their constituency.

The amount of misinformation (read: lies) is astounding.

  8. Jock S. Trap 18 Apr 2013, 2:53pm

““It saves lives to have honest communication not only about the sexually transmitted diseases that shorten lifespans, but also about the deep loneliness that accompanies a life based on youth, beauty and sex,””

Yet again assumptions not fact. I find this example the reason the religious wish to inaccurately label us all and use to keep us in the image so they can feel allowed to discriminate against us.

    It is just plain wrong.

How would the religious out there like it if we labelled them ALL cold blooded murdering terrorists?

Fact is they wouldn’t, especially the likes of this particular idiot. So why so they insist on their vile, inaccurate propaganda just so they can satisfy themselves.

    It’s selfish, it’s nasty…. it’s religion.

    1. Not to mention that ‘youth, beauty and sex’ as principal interests would sum up a gigantic proportion of the US’s non-gay population.

    2. Talking about having “an honest discussion” while at the same time insisting on “Abstinence Only” as the only thing they will accept as so-called “sex education”? Maybe if they were more willing to have “Honest discussions” on everything related to both topics would be a good first step!

  9. He fails to realize that there is also a certain percentage of hetero’s that live hedonistically as well. His profoundly ignorant statement implies that only hetero’s are capable of true love. He and those religious based ilk like him fail to realize that true love comes from the spirit and is not bound by gender.

    1. Liam the God 18 Apr 2013, 6:19pm

True that. Someone introduce him to Peter Stringfellow!!

  10. I tell you, they can be happy. My relationship has lasted longer than ALL of my heterosexual friends relationships put together.

So I think that says something, don’t you?

    1. Congratulations to you and your life-mate. May you continue to be happy together for many years to come!

    2. I and my first partner are now in our 29th year. My straight brothers are on 2nd and 6th partners, with children from 2 partners each. Both had catholic weddings with all the frills.

Sorry to disappoint you Senator Guthless, but we are happier every day.

  11. Guess his boyfriend left him in the lurch at the altar.

  12. Judging by the incredibly high rate of heterosexual divorces, this moron is obviously talking out of his old bigoted ass.

  13. So disrespectful to his fellow Americans. As a leader of the people he is expected to research topics and bring an unbiased opinion. He failed, and is failing to do his duty as an official. The statements he made hold no truth, and he should know that.

  14. I wonder if it has ever occurred to him, even momentarily, that people like him make happiness more difficult to attain? Of course not, what a silly question

  15. Liam the God 18 Apr 2013, 6:18pm

    Dead Senator Guff.
Please, go out and GET A BLOW JOB! You need one! Go out, get your dick sucked, have a bong and some tequila, chill out, and then go back to the Senate relaxed, with a better, clearer mind!

All the best, Patrick the Psychiatrist*

*this may have been awarded by the university of my kitchen…

  16. “If I saw someone going the wrong way on a one-way street, I would make every effort to stop and redirect them.”

To most normal people, life is a two way street. And every one way street I have seen has an opposite one way street going the other way.

This man obviously just has the one street and it is his street.

  17. Lukefromcanada 18 Apr 2013, 7:10pm

why do these people always act as if they are experts on human sexuality when it is clear that they are totally ignorant of it and the science behind it, and if when asked they reject.

  18. Does this senator look gay to you? Maybe its the moustache? Could his inner self hate be manifesting itself thorugh rage against his libidinal strivings?
Or is he just a big ignorant ass with access to a political pulpit. What a jerk.

  19. “Senator claims the media has ‘bamboozled’ the public into thinking gay relationships can be happy.”

Yeah. And that moustache speaks *volumes*, mate.

    1. Hey fool, come visit a couple of men who have been together for 56 years and be “bamboozled” What a fool!

  20. Richard the Big Bunny 21 Apr 2013, 4:58pm

Just because you get all your hot gay lovin’ in lowly Iowa truck stop terrrlitts, love … don’t go making assumptions. (-:

what boggles my mind is that some of us still think that arent men who think this ..
and that cant be elected to any office ..
some in this country hates us .. and will hate us until they draw their last breathe here on earth .. I am always glad to see the bigots come out of the closet .. and proclaim their stupidity and their hate .. when more and more come out .. it helps with the fight for our legal rights .. it opens a dialog concerning your views .. and how others view thier opinions of the community .. and more and more have positive affriming opinions of us .and our rights
