    Hmmm. Sounds so easy, doesn’t it. This advice does have something helpful in it, but it also discounts the extraordinary power of relationships amongst peers.

    THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO A YOUNG PERSON is how they are viewed and valued by their peers. The words of role models, the encouragement of teachers, and so forth, count very little in comparison to the evaluation of oneself by one’s peers.

    So if those peers are the slightest bit homophobic, then the young person’s relationships become EXTREMELY difficult. It’s not just a matter of “Don’t worry what they think!”
