  1. Thank you Senator Rodriguez for trying to right this wrong. I have little hope that TX will comply even after the US Supreme court strikes down DOMA and Prop 8. (As if there were no gay cowboys.) Gay people have existed since the begining of time and there will always be gay people. Too bad TX doesn’t understand the meaning of freedom. The homophobic christians can have their religious views without making everyone else have to follow them.

  2. The Texas state GOP is as hatefully intransigent as ever, having adopted a categorical opposition to gay people and their rights in their official party platform. Some people just stubbornly refuse to evolve as human beings.

    When Texas was originally admitted as a state, its area was so big that it was given the right to subdivide itself into up to five smaller states without federal review, though this has never happened. It’s clear that there are parts of Texas – especially Austin and the blue-leaning Mexican border lands – that culturally have very little in common with the rest of the state and probably ought to be separated from the bible belt portions of the state.
