Just to be clear – the Church of Scotland already ordains lesbian and gay ministers who are celibate; this debate is about whether to ordain ministers who are in same-sex sexual relationships. Ministers who are in mixed-sex sexual relationships are already allowed, so long as they are married to the person the sexual relationship is with.

Well, mixed sex couples have the support of the CoS to have sexual relations, gay couples don’t.

    2. “so long as they are married to the person the sexual relationship is with.”

Which century does the author of the piece think he lives in.

      And PS, “EQUALITY NETWORK”

We have no idea what you mean by the last few words Dave! As Robert wrote, the current policy of the church obviously discriminates against same-sex couples. The unknown at present is whether the General Assembly next month will vote for option A in the report – allowing ministers in same-sex sexual relationships so long as they are in a civil partnership with the person the sexual relationship is (which would be a significant step forward for LGBT people in the Church), or whether they will go for option B, banning ministers in same-sex sexual relationships, which would be worse than the status quo – it would be a backward step.

    3. Time to shut the sorry saga down.

      Hypocrites all.

I point blank refuse to go back to Scotland given the beatings and verbal abuse I got as a child.

Feel free to appease the raping of children. Its what your “church does best.

What is the point. Do these morons really believe that a gay clergyman in a CP is celibate or going to remain that way? I don’t even believe clergy who are gay and not in a CP don’t masturbate at least. I have no respect for gay clergy denying their own humanity and living an abnormal life like catholic priests do.

Just for clarification – the proposal, option A, is that same-sex sexual relationships will be accepted for ministers who are in CPs (ie, ministers in CPs will not be required to be celibate) – that’s similar to the church’s rule for married ministers. There will be a range of views on whether option A is equality, and option B of course would be going backwards on the current position.

  3. ‘The only appropriate expression of sexual activity is between one man and one woman within marriage’. Can this really be a serious statement ? This rules out about 98% of human sexual activity gay or straight. Have they never read a newspaper or watched tv ? I cant beleive they are so out of touch with reality.

  4. Yeah yeah yeah.

You know… you superstitious gits with your fairy tales have lost it. Your congregation is dwindling to nothing and all you can offer is token gestures rather than offering full reform. You are supposed to be teaching love. Apparently. Instead you teach hate.

People see through religion- it is no longer needed or wanted.

I’ll be glad to see the back of you, and ever other agent of superstition.

  5. The debates at the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland are streamed live on their website during the assembly. It is all very civilised and fair unlike the COE synods..

  6. Just another example of them trying to demonstrate ther power over people. You cannot do XYZ because we don’t think you should.

They only have power over us if we listen to them. The whole debate is a non debate is they are ignored and people stay away until they stop their bigotry.

  7. Thank you to the equality network for making it clear. I’de love to know how they check up on whether their ministers are celibate or not. Spy holes ,cameras, someone sitting in the corner taking notes ? Bonkers.
