Hopefully the first thing an out NBA player would do would be to advocate an end to these ridiculous, gangsta-inspired long baggy shorts. Why men’s thighs have become something to hide over the last generation baffles me. 1979 Adidas joggers, anyone?

  2. Only a few lines in to this story I was rather disappointed and discouraged by
    Rick Welts dialogue.

For any athlete to come out, he/she would personally have reached a point in their life where they felt confident in who they are, in the person people see them as and their own desire to be open and honest about who they are in their personal and public life.

If a person coming out does benefit from endorsements, surely that would be a bonus, some thing totally different form inspiration or motivation to come out… not driven instead only by incentive which seemed to be the spin put on it by Rick Wells.

Currently there is much talk about athletes and their organizations being more accepting of the time being right for a person to come out, and for their organizations to confront homophobia.

The following link, indicates another side of of why Canadian and European players in American teams are also influencing change

  3. Bob Witeck has a vested interest in hyping this hoopla – he runs a gay marketing company.

Might have been worth pointing this out…
