  1. Tragic.

    A beautiful, talented man.

Rest in Peace, and let’s hope those at risk are made aware and protected.

  2. Robert in S. Kensington 14 Apr 2013, 4:59pm

    Poor man and so young.

Wait for the right wing religious homophobic hate-mongers spin this to their advantage.

The answer to that has appeared as if by magic below ! Our pet troll is back with his cod science and bovine excreta again.

For clarity , I was referring to “Gary” – in case anyone was mislead

God Bless You, Brett.May you Rest In Peace.

Why cant we have nice comments like this on Pink News instead of the all nasty back biting and name calling? Well done for setting an example Dennis.

  4. If you examine the following page at MeningitisUK, you find that “While bacterial meningitis and septicaemia are rare, the bacteria which actually cause the diseases are quite common, with 10 percent of people (and 10 to 30 percent of young adults) carrying the meningococcal bacteria and up to 60 percent of people carrying the pneumococcal bacteria at any time.”

Yes, anyone with an underlying health condition, like being HIV+ AND LOTS OF OTHER CONDITIONS, would be at risk after contracting this virus, but is it known that this young man was HIV+? The article doesn’t say so.

I’d be wary of this case being used as further “evidence” that being gay leads to illness or even death!

    1. HIV has nothing to so with homosexuality or sexuality in general, it is our irresponsible sexual acts that makes it happen. Use protection and make barebacking illegal!! In porn and everywhere else and stop promoting such things. Doing bareback is the same as putting a needle inside yourself. The same thing happens to straight couples who don’t use protection during vaginal sex.

      1. Your comment does not relate in any kind of rational way to what I stated.

If you believe it does, then kindly try to explain.

Right like yours does Eddy, yAWN..YAWN…YWAN… whatever Eddy…………

It is sad to see a beautiful man die at such an early age.
Bacterial meningitis can be treated with antibiotics unlike the viral strains which like all other viral diseases from the common cold to HIV are not curable. Unfortunately the bacterial strain is also more deadly than the viral strain and to compound the situation bacteria is coming more resistant to antibiotics.
Meningitis can be transmitted by other means than sexually and therefore everybody is at risk. Like HIV/AIDS this strain of meningitis is NOT a ‘gay disease’ and everybody is at risk although some religious bigots will be getting onto their high horses preaching that God has sent meningitis to wipe out gay people as he was supposed to have done with HIV.

  6. Very tragic and sad.

I have been however advising gay man for ages not to engage in perverse sexual behaviour with other men for ages and to abandon the gay lifestyle, bu they refuse to do so.

Men who sadly suffer from same sex attraction and yet remain celibate do not suffer from such diseases. They are a great example that we are not defined by the brokenness in our sexuality i.e. child abuse, poor parenting (which is what homosexuality is often generally a result of – although for some men it is different factors).

Sadly the media in union with gay rights activists over the years have led people to believe that anyone who opposes men putting their penis in another man’s excrement hole is homophobic. Sadly this man is now another statistic from the bad science that the child abuser Alfred Kinsey gave rise to.

May this man rest in peace, this is a tragic loss of young life.

    1. Gary, I choose my words very carefully – from your comment you indicate that you are a stupid, ignorant bigot. And are also suffering from severe delusions.

Memingitis is NOT a sexually transmitted disease, it is transmitted by sylivia; by wet kissing or the transfer of sylivia from one person to another such as sharing a cigarette.

      1. I didn’t state it was a ‘STD’.

‘From your comment you indicate that you are a stupid, ignorant bigot. And are also suffering from severe delusions.’

        1. This has noting to do with being gay. Go read up on meningitis. It can also happen for no reason as well. It can come cen when you are in a room full of sick people.

      2. Renovato, well said. The words “stupid”, “ignorant”, and “bigot” came to my mind too as I read Gary’s fatuous comment.

Gary is clearly unaware that most attendees at STD clinics first thing on Monday mornings are young heterosexuals.

    2. Did no one ask you to dance…so blinded by prejudice…what a wasted journey!

  7. A very tragic death of a young fit and talanted man.
This strain of MenC is very virulent and is believed to have killed 1 in 3 of those infected.
Memingitis is NOT a sexually transmitted disease, it is transmitted by sylivia; by wet kissing or the transfer of sylivia from one person to another such as sharing a cigarette, a drinking glass or a joint. It is not airbourne but if an infected person sneezes close into your face and large droplets enter your nose mouth or eye you may become infected.
Anyone who suspects they may have meningitis should seek medical help immediately, it can progress very fast DO NOT WAIT. It may or may not exibit a rash in addition to flue like symptoms neck pain/discomfort joint discomfort and a fever.
There are vaccines available for MENC, from the available information the Ca. lawyer had a virulent strain of MENC. A vaccine has been approved recently in the EU for MENB the most widespread type, but is not yet available for distribution.

    1. It would seem this has now leaped from the New York area on the Eastern US to the west coast LosAngeles Hollywood. Although meningitis tends to spread in close social groups and in bodies like colleges and universities Gay bars and social gatherings are ideal because of the intimate socialising that often takes place. Check out the Meningitis Trust website and memorise the symptoms this is not the only type of memingitis doing the rounds, all of them are serious if not treated PROMPTLY with anitbiotics.
I have had septocemia, one of the symptoms of meningitis, almost 10 years ago, it almost killed me and was extremelly touch and go and needed 3 different antibiotics two of them intravenious simutainously. I’m OK no lasting damage, so please if you think you may have it dont wait !
If you are going to NY or LA get vaccinated at least 3 weeks before you go.

    2. “Memingitis is . . . transmitted by sylivia”.

Renovato, who exactly is this Sylvia woman? I think we need to know!

      (Joke :-) )

“Who is Sylvia? what is she,
That all our swains commend her?
      Holy, fair, and wise is she;
The heaven such grace did lend her,
      That she might admirèd be.

Is she kind as she is fair?
      For beauty lives with kindness.
Love doth to her eyes repair,
To help him of his blindness,
      And, being helped, inhabits there.

Then to Sylvia let us sing,
      That Sylvia is excelling;
      She excels each mortal thing
      Upon the dull earth dwelling:
To her let us garlands bring.

      (Shakespeare)

  8. Pavlos Prince of Greece 14 Apr 2013, 11:38pm

Very attractive, young gay men. How sad ! I has admire his beautiful face for some time, before change of page ….

    1. And Pavlos, if that photo was one of a young and unattractive man who did not have a beautiful face, would you still have posted such a message of sympathy?

      1. Pavlos Prince of Greece 15 Apr 2013, 12:49pm

I think, no … I did’n know him personally, his character, his biography, what he loves etc.The very only part of his short life in what I can participate now, is this photography. And, yes, it is wonderful.

  9. rebecca dawson 15 Apr 2013, 8:18am

This article is awful how dare you even attempt this man’s tragic illness to his homosexuality! All strains of bacterial meningitis are potentially fatal this has nothing to do with the fact that he was gay! I developed bacterial meningococcal septicimia type b at the age of 15 while still a virgin. Gay people do not need to be cautious only the people he was in contact with within the from the week previous to his falling ill up until the time of death but these people would have been contacted and prescribed strong antibiotics.

    1. That is because there is an underlying institutionalised homophobic attitude at Pink News. We must boycott this newspaper now!

      1. I agree Pink News should be ashamed of itself

  10. Read about bacterial meningitis. This disease is not a sexually transmitted disease and the high risk groups have always been students living in college dorms and soldiers in military barracks.

How much of this story is to increase the number of people getting the new vaccine that is supposed to prevent bacterial meningitis?

The problem with this marketing ploy is it has given uneducated homophobes a new “gay plague” to scream about. Thanks a lot, CDC!

    1. Blame Pink News not CDC
