  1. I hope that this will be published as it should then show Mr Poots for the liar that he is.

He is a vile man and should not hold the office that he does.

I don’t even understand why this matter is up to Northern Ireland itself. It should be a UK wide lift of this stupid ban. Funny how they wouldn’t even dare deny sub-Saharan Africans from donating blood – could you imagine the backlash?

  3. Born again christian….says it all….there is no justification in banning gay/bi men from giving blood because of a risk of STIs….doesnt he think hetrosexuals have sex with different people?……the risk is just the same…the mans a religious bigot and should be sacked

That he was ‘born’ once was a huge mistake. Bigot!

I still don’t understand why in England you have to be celibate for a year to give blood if you’re a gay man.

If you’ve used protection if sleeping with someone new, be it a one night stand or a boyfriend, and you know you’re both clean, what’s the problem?

The blood is tested before being used anyway, it’s not like things such as HIV or other STD’s wouldn’t be picked up.

  6. Chapter and Verse … IF he tells the truth!!!!

  7. Just another ‘incident’ where its possible to see how the Unionist Politicians are holding Northern Ireland back and keeping it in the dark ages. Ref Flag Protests. Ref Iris Robinson etc etc etc

  8. There is no justification for discrimination and religion has no place in politics. Thats what this is all about a bigoted politician corrupted by his outlandish beliefs.

So what sort of an insane political party would make an idiot, who thinks the earth is only 4,000 years old. a minister?

    Oh…

    The DUP… That explains it.

Since AIDS is disproportionate in th homodeviant community, it follows that their blood is far more likely to be diseased. Why would they want to heighten the risk of infection to innocents? For their precious ‘equality ‘ of course!

    1. Not sure what the “homodeviant” community is, but you know where else AIDS is more common? Cities. We should ban urban blood drives.

Or test people for innocence and send the blood from urban blood drives to those who fail their test, if that’s more to your taste. It’s immoral and impractical and you can sound self-righteous about it, so I can’t think why it wouldn’t be.

      1. No thanks to homosexual blood 12 Apr 2013, 10:44pm

You have to take from the lowest risk groups whilst maintaining volume. Cities are a major provider so eliminating them would affect volume Ask any person which group they would rather have excluded. homosexuals or heteros. People rightly would choose the lower risk group, heteros because the risk is far lower. It’s not rocket science you know!
Would you choose to fly an airline with a high accident record or low. It is no different with blood. People want as safe as possible. Funny that you thinkthat is self righteous, to choose the safest option.

A stark reminder of just how stupid backward and bigoted this idiot Edwin Poots … http://politicalscrapbook.net/2011/05/edwin-poots-creationism-evolution/

The irony of so-called ‘Loyalists’ is they are only loyal when they want to be. If they want to go their own way on so many issues in Northern Ireland then let them set up their own biggoted state and see how long they last. Issues such as this shame the rest of the UK and I for one would not miss them if they were ejected from it….
