Rapper turned reggae artist Snoop Lion has confirmed that he supports equal marriage, and said that he has “no issues with nobody.

In a recent interview with the Huffington Post Snoop Lion, formerly Snoop Dogg, said: “People can do what they want and as they please.”

He continued: “Satisfy yourself accordingly. I have no issues with nobody. I live for me and I live my life doing what I do, so you should have the right to do whatever you want to do.”

In late 2012 Snoop spoke out to say that the world of Hip Hop was ready to accept a gay rapper, following Frank Ocean’s announcement that he had been in love with a man.

Musician Frank Ocean revealed his first love was with a man and, received praise from those in the music industry for coming out while beginning to forge a successful career as a hip-hop artist.

Fellow rapper, 50 Cent, who seemed to rapidly change his stance from anti-gay to pro, spoke recently about his childhood, saying that he grew up with a lesbian mother, and that he grew to understand her sexuality.

Not the first time a challenge to the typical nature of the hip-hop industry – in 2007, Princeton religious professor Cornel West released an album designed to counter rap’s negative image.

The issue of support for equal marriage has been particularly topical in recent weeks as the US Supreme Court took up two cases around equal marriage bans.

The Supreme Court Justices on Wednesday indicated a possible interest in striking down the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), as it heard arguments around the issue.

This was the second day of hearings, as Tuesday the court heard arguments around Proposition 8, the state of California’s ban on equal marriage. Then the justices questioned the meaning of marriage, and challenged arguments for the ban.

A decision by the Supreme Court in both cases is expected by the end of June.
