Puerto Rico Government signals support for gay adoption

  1. For some reason, gay couples raising kids is less of a hot button issue in the states than gay couples getting married. When marriage equality was being debated in my state there were pro and anti signs on every other lawn and you couldn’t go 15 minutes without seeing the ads on TV. At times there were so many there’d be a block of them back-to-back. It was nuts. But when the state supreme court ruled – unanimously – to allow same-sex couples to adopt jointly and recognize parental rights for gay partners even in the absence of an adoptive relationship, nobody batted an eyelid. The whole state collectively shrugged and said, ‘that’s nice, whatever’. You’d think things like adoption and surrogacy would be more contentious than marriage, as they have been in Europe, but no. It’s strange.
