  1. Catholic “scholar”?

That’s like being a “Professor” of astrology.

    1. He’s a scholar of bigotry.

    2. Catholic ‘scholar’ = Oxymoron

      1. He’s more of a moron than a scholar.

  2. Didn’t condemning it contribute to the Republicans’ loss at the last election?

I think in his case the title ‘scholar’ has been self-selected.

  4. THOUSANDS of people make thier living in the States out of ‘religion’ – university researchers, ‘professors of theology; etc. This self-styled ‘scholar’ has no more insight into the effects of homosexual acceptance than anyone else. He’s just another scare-monger with no other evidence than ‘faith’. Ignore them. They’re rapidly becoming a laughing stock. And far from being divisive, countries like Holland with a much longer track record of respect for ALL human rights shows that the demise of religion is what really advances a kinder society.

    1. Truth: The spirit of lies are pushing that homosexuality is a natural occurrence and that people are born that way. It is very easy to spot that lie. If everyone in this world were to become homosexuals the human race would cease to exist in one generation, because the natural, is a union between one man and one woman and is the only union that can give birth to a child. There is no surprise we would hear comments like yours, because it has already been prophesied. For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. 4 They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths. (2 Timothy 4:3-4) I pray that El Elyon (The Most High God) will open your ears to truth and that he would chastise you daily just as a father would do to his child, else we be illegitimate. Forgive us Father for the evil we do.

The letters: Ephesians, 1 and 2 Timothy and Titus are all fakes, not written by Paul, but some anonymous writers who could have been doing some spoof of Paul, for a laugh. No credible biblical scholar or textual critical would ever pretend these were genuine writings.

You cannot become gay – you either are or aren’t. About 6% appear to be LGB — all over the place, in most regions of the world. It’s a biological diversity, not one based on the swinging 60s, or Pop music, or liberal ideas. You can see the same natural traits in animals and all sorts of other species, so it’s a natural part of our environments and world. It doesn’t increase because Glee is on the TV, or because more and more people are becoming liberal and progressive. And last time I looked we’re in danger of over-population — by which I mean we haven’t yet managed to work out a way to feed everyone existing on the planet today, even though we do have the means to do so. Christians should concentrate on that

        1. Don’t make such efforts to respond to such garbage, Gulliver.
You generally post sensible and well-supported messages which are wasted on these tossers.

          1. Quite right – brainwashed fools like The Sword (I think it might be the same sword that Jonathan Aitken used) above deserve our pity, but they’re too indoctrinated to recognise reason let alone change their minds. Just sigh, mark down and move on.

  5. Yes, the republicans should all embrace the Catholic priestly practice of celibacy, because in no way dose that lead to disaster and the perversion of human sexuality!!!!

  6. I can’t help feeling that being a civilised and therefore moderate Catholic (they do exist, surprisingly enough) these days must be very hard, when so many unbearably foolish people seem to be trying their hardest to make Catholicism ridiculous.

    1. Actually, according to the surveys, most American Catholics are doing fine — they just ignore the bishops and go about their lives.

And one of the groups most strongly supportive of same-sex marriage is Latinos — also overwhelmingly Catholic.

  7. He’s right, of course. Just not in the way he imagines.

The pope today bowed to a known genocidal dictator, in other words Robert Mugabe who is banished by the EU. And the Vatican let this bastard in.

    Speaks volumes.

    1. The Vatican and Zimbabwe – the Axis of Evil.

  9. We’ve given up saying things that include the words: plague, locusts, tsunami… and just opted for disaster. I guess that is all encompassing isn’t it?

  10. “Lead to disaster”?

Is he one of those very strange people who said that homosexuality caused Hurricane Katrina?

The fundamentalist US Christians are really scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to find new things to say in their scaremongering attempts against equality. They sound desperate trying to cling onto their superiority under the law.

  11. “Criticism also came from Jenny Beth Martin, national coordinator for the Tea Party Patriots, who said the party is straying from its conservative message.”

Their conservative message is why they lost the election.

  12. Of course It will be a disaster for the Catholic church if political parties ‘accept homosexuality’…it will just expose it even more obviously as the bigoted, out-of- touch-with-reality, deluded institution it is…

  13. Who cares what any Papist says?
