    Blimey, I’m surprised they went ahead and published! They must have also avoided asked deliberately biased questions, as is more normal with the polling companies CI et al use.

    Surely the idea behind an anti-gay organisation conducting a poll, using their own polling arm, into opinions around equality is to prove themselves right? They certainly screwed this one up :)

    Thank you, SBC!

    One of the most confusing surveys I’ve ever seen. There also seemed to be some bait and switch going on, with the first set of questions using the word “agree” then switching to “disagree”, and the layout of results was very poorly laid out. If the people asking the questions, and the people they asked, were as confused by some of those questions, as I am about how the results are presented, then the poll isn’t very useful – except for the few things PN pulled out. Pew do a much better job of presenting complex data.

      There is a good Pew one here;

      http://www.pewforum.org/Politics-and-Elections/Two-Thirds-of-Democrats-Now-Support-Gay-Marriage-long-term-views-gay-marriage-adoption.aspx

      and whilst googling that one I found this old Pew one from 2007, which confirms that if you have a close friend / relative who is gay that changes how you feel about their rights and protections;

      http://www.pewsocialtrends.org/2007/05/23/four-in-ten-americans-have-close-friends-or-relatives-who-are-gay/

      and

      http://www.populus.co.uk/uploads/download_pdf-100609-The-Times-The-Times-Gay-Britain-Poll.pdf
      Page 7 backs up that even most older people, when their child or grandchild comes out as gay change their opinion to supportive.

      Gulliver,

      Ignore the slide titles at the top of the slides and look at the actual questions at the bottom. I think the actual questions were consistently straight-forward, and the presentation title was just screwed up, so the survey is pretty good and must be humiliating for them to publish….but they did.

      Warmest regards,

    So you thoght the other polls were wrong and had your own? It is a good thing to be sceptical. And it is excellent to accept results when you are not able to disprove them fairly.
    So come on, say it with me: homosexuality is not a sin, it is just who people are and homosexuals should also obtain the right to marry the one they love like everybody else. There is no reason to disgriminate agains LGBTIQ.

  5. Interestingly enough, New Zealand’s Baptist denomination went into a steep membership decline after it was taken over by fundamentalist elements.

  6. It must be quite unpleasant to go to so much trouble to give yourself such bad news!
    And what were these reactionary Christians actually saying about black civil rights in the 50s and 60s? The civil rights agenda whose moral prestige they now claim?
    Hypocrisy and amnesia. The foundation of a lot of religion.

  7. Organised religion has always been about power and control. But the age of deference for religion is over. They don’t like it. Homosexuality is the last highly-emotive issue they can use to frighten the stupid. It isn’t working. They’ve lost the battle. They should just accept this fact and find some nicer, kinder way of making money.
