You know, going on the Keith O’Brien Scale, it’s beginning to sound like Russia could be the gayest country on Earth.

Which could explain their falling birth rates I suppose…

  2. Subhankar Zac 12 Mar 2013, 4:15pm

Apart from usually being disgusting and utterly repugnant maggots in this country, I know what I m thankful for now: For Not coming across a single maggot who is from russia.
Hope this country dies n Burns in hell as soon as possible.-Amen

    1. My partner is Russian.

    2. Viktoriya of Moscow 13 Mar 2013, 2:31am

I am Russian, I live in Russia, and because the majority of my People are anti-LGBT, you’re going to burn us down? What about the gays? What about the people who are pro, or at least not against, gay marriage? What about the fact that you’re “praying” that a country dies and burns in Hell?

Now, that’s going to solve all our problems. Way to be understanding!

      1. Viktoriya, please accept our apologies for the above comment. We have the odd unthinking screaming lunatic posting on these threads. There’s no way to stop them.

      2. Vik, so sorry you need to read comments like the one above. What I, and I believe the vast majority of readers on this forum wish for is more tolerance in Russia. Tolerance for LGBT’s, different religions, political opinions, ethnic minorities, etc. Just more tolerance.

Now how did a straight-as-a-stick Finnish guy end up commenting on this LGBT-focused discussion forum you might wonder? Well, the survey made local news here:

        Best regards,
        Karl

PS. Should anyone try to burn you Viktoriya, I’ll be coming to your rescue with the fire extinguisher. :-)

  3. This is the perfect argument for equality because without it – you’d be living in Russia.

  4. I’m honestly surprised how far backward Russia has slid since the break up of the USSR…. and that’s saying something considering how backward it was in the first place. I suppose that this is what happens when you have a dictator on the throne for 15 years.

    1. Especially when said shortarsed dictator is a closet case himself. Putin is a standing joke among the leaders of Western Countries because he tries so hard to portray himself as a super-macho when in reality he is just a self-loathing homosexual with meglomania ruling a nation with a sizable proportion made up of drunks, thieves and murderers.

      1. Viktoriya of Moscow 13 Mar 2013, 2:36am

Putin is not a homosexual, and I have no clue where you came up with that idea. Propaganda, maybe?

        1. Viktoriya, I think most of us here know that Putin is not homosexual, but to the Western mind the sight of the leader of a nation posing half-naked on a horse is very strange indeed! Such behaviour does have homoerotic undertones. People who are comfortable in their personalities don’t need to project their gender, they don’t have to demonstrate how they are “so male” or “so female”. This is why we regard Putin as dangerous and a joke, and why some people here have wondered if in fact his homosexual dimension may be larger than he lets on. We are all, after all, on spectrum, and Putin is not 100% heterosexual.

  5. Maaatthhhew!!! 12 Mar 2013, 4:22pm

I am confused, do they mean literally “Liquidated” as in chucked in a blender……. Or is there another meaning of this I don’t know? I could be being reeaaally stupid here, but if not then stuff escalated and got alot darker than usual very quickly…..

    1. I’m guessing they mean stripped of their financial assets.

    2. I thought it meant entirely wiped out- like a form of genocide.

    3. Alternate translation is ‘exterminated’…

    4. Robert in S. Kensington 12 Mar 2013, 5:02pm

As the Nazis called it…”Die Entlösung” or “final solution”. Extermination!

      1. That There Other David 12 Mar 2013, 5:17pm

Not particularly final though, considering every generation brings with it a fresh group of LGBT people.

      2. Robert in S. Kensington 12 Mar 2013, 5:28pm

        Oops, …..”Endlösung”.

    5. In a blender they would be liquidised.

  6. Unfortunately this is true – Russia is one of the few places on Earth that is getting more homophobic as the time goes…

I’m so lucky I got away from that shithole 10 years ago…

    1. I am sorry for you Alex, for being born there. But then again, I was born in Brazil and I am still here, a shithole even larger, worse and more shameful where they actually elected Marcos Feliciano, a homophobic and racist evangelical pastor known for homophobic and racist declarations such as that black people are descendents of an ancestor cursed by Noah and that AIDS is the gay cancer, for the Comission of Human Rights and Minorities. Yes, I know, it looks like a joke of bad taste but it’s real.

      1. According to my Brazilian friend, Brazil is much better than Russia – unlike Russia you actually have many areas where GLBT are treated well.

P.S. Russia is larger than Brazil ;-)

  7. This is becasue Russians are like mushrooms, kept in the dark and fed shit.

    1. …and making comments filled with prejudice is the exact way to make things better!!!

      1. That There Other David 12 Mar 2013, 5:18pm

Sadly marcos, David is correct. Russians are fed a daily diet of quite blatant propaganda.

If you have a satellite box watch a bit of the English language Russia Today “news” channel. It’s quite scary just how blatant the twisting of every story is.

        1. I gave up on Russia Today when I started reading it’s website. Every article of a political nature was accompanied by commennters talking about a Capitalist-Zionist plot to take over the world. Because the 20million Soviet soldiers and civilians died for no reason whatsoever.

        2. Viktoriya of Moscow 13 Mar 2013, 2:35am

Are you from Russia? If not, who are you to say so?

          1. Viktoriya, surely you don’t believe that only people from Russia may discuss that country?

Your input is valuable. Please tell us the truth of the situation for gays and lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people in Russia.

          2. It seems rational enough to me that people who have no experience of living in a country are pretty underqualified to make absolute statements about the experience of life in a country.

          3. That There Other David 13 Mar 2013, 8:31pm

I’m not Russian I’m glad to say. Something tells me I’d have been forced into being a much less happy person had I been unlucky enough to have been born there.

And I’ll continue to comment as I see fit thanks.

Love and hugs from the civilised world

            D

  8. Pink News posts a shrill headline and you all fall for it, like push-button robots. The headline could just as easily say 75% of Russians do not want compulsory treatment and the vast majority wouldn’t want us liquidated. Doesn’t sound so alarmist though, does it?

    1. That There Other David 12 Mar 2013, 6:12pm

If the survey were isolated you’d have a point. Taken against the increasingly violent and oppressive direction towards Russia’s LGBT citizens however the slant of this article is correct, especially when the quoted trend in percentages is also taken into consideration.

Russia is becoming less friendly to us. The people wanting compulsory treatment etc. is growing. That’s quite alarming IMO.

  9. So just under half of the adult population of Mother Russia think we should be isolated, treated, or murdered.

Thank you, Mother Russia. I was thinking of visiting the treasures of your great St. Petersburg. I will not be now.

I call for a worldwide embargo by LGBTs of EVERYTHING Russian!

Whatever it is, no matter how attractive it might be, if it’s Russian DON’T TOUCH IT!

    1. Eddy, visit Spain instead. It’s one of the few countries in the world that fully legalized same-sex marriage and is known for its LGBT tourism. I visited Spain last July with my family and loved it !! Spain is so beautiful, the Museo del Prado in Madrid alone was one of the most fantastic places I’ve ever been in my life, a place I truly fell in love and intend to return in the future – and let’s not even talk about Toledo, Barcelona, Valencia, Granada, Córdoba, Zaragoza and Salamanca, among others, they speak for themselves.

      1. Thanks, Felipe! Will act on that recommendation. It’s about time I saw the treasures of Spain.

    2. But Stouie is allowed to touch his partner, of course…

  10. “high percentage claiming to have no gay relatives or friends and a proportionately high percentage saying gay people should be “liquidated”.”

They want them liquidated but apparently have no out friends or relatives. I can’t imagine why.

  11. So, out of a population of 142 million people, 1600 were questioned. Out of the 1600, 368 felt that gay people should be left alone and only slightly more felt that they should receive psychological treatment.

Just the fact that they asked people if they felt that homosexuals should be “liquidated” means that this survey should be discredited straight off.

  12. Well, if this survey is representative it tells us that just over SEVEN MILLION Russian people think we gays should be exterminated.

That’s shocking. However, it seems that the survey offered questionees the chance to indicate their preference for extermination, i.e. in some form the survey must have asked the question, “Do you think gays and lesbians should be exterminated?”

Now here in the UK such a question could never be asked in any survey. Thankfully, it would cause an outrage. BUT just imagine that a survey in the UK DID ask that question!

After all the hatred towards us that has been vented in the past six months, re. the Same-Sex Couples Bill, do we really think that NO-ONE in the UK would choose the liquidation/extermination option for us? Hard-line religionists (both Muslim, Xian, and Jewish) most certainly would. And they wouldn’t be the only ones.

  13. Nice people generally it seems. I’m an ex-pat living in Cambodia and Russians make up a significant number of visitors here now…. and they are hated by one and all. They majority of visiting Russians are loud-mouthed abusive drunks who think that their ‘new money’ gives them a licence to be oafs. No manners whatsoever and they think they can do as they please. They are becoming the pariah’s in so many places now…

    1. They’re gain the same reputation in Greece, AngkorBiz. And also in the South of France and parts of Italy. And certainly their behaviour in the posh parts of London is causing people to frown with disapproval.

  14. The ironic thing is that the 5 percent of Russians are probably the same 5 percent of Russians stupid enough to idolize leaders who historically do their best to liquidate almost a quarter of Russians(!)

    1. Oh, that’s would be much more than 5%…

  15. Russia is damned, the hell on Earth that is that disgusting country is beyond repair. I am sorry, I know I always try to be a tolerant person but the modern attitude that Russia and the majority of Russians have for general human rights makes it so difficult that each day I find more reason to be outspokenly prejudiced and a hater of Russia, the Russian people and the Russian culture and literature (this last one in special, as my latent Slavophobia started after I finished reading Fyodor Dostoyevsky and his pseudo-moralist fanatic-Orthodox-Christian Slavocentric novels). A place to remember to never put my feet on.

  16. Did the survey actually include a question whether or not gay people should be ‘liquidated’. If so, that’s unacceptable to say the least. No reputable survey would ask such a question. Imagine the uproar across the world if a survey asked if Jewish people, or black people, or disabled people should be ‘liquidated’. Asking the question is indicating that it is an option worth considering and only a fascist would consider genocide as an option. Who are the “Levada Centre”?

I don’t think anyone has yet asked what the reason for this dreadful homophobia is.

Is it, at least in part, due to the maliign influence of the Russian Orthodox Church which has apparently been rehabilitated and gained a great deal of ground since it was suppressed by the Stalinist regime?
