  1. “I remind the Honorable Gentleman that that was a free vote.

So that makes it better?? What kind of response is that? Given the chance, MOD ministers overwhelmingly support inequality for gay people. That sends a clear message to gay people: we have to treat you equally because of anti-discrimination policies but we still consider you to be inferior to heterosexuals.
The Nasty Party is still alive and well.

15 years ago all the usual homophobes were screaming that the British army would disintegrate if gay people joined. Of course it was garbage and now even the worst homophobes never mention gays in the army because they know it was a great success and it totally undermines their arguments.

  3. How is it possible for Mark Francois to say that he’s committed to equality in the armed forces if he opposes the chance of same-sex couples in the forces to marry? Does he need David Cameron to sit him down and explain what ‘equality’ actually means?

  4. I don’t believe anyone who claims to be in favour of gay equality when their actions suggest otherwise.

It’s very easy to say something without meaning it.

All the MPs in this article are simply homophobic (except the one who did vote for marriage equality), no matter what they might say.

Well, it’s the tradtional Tory bigotry coming to the forefront isn’t it, religion at the heart of it I bet. CPs were called controversial by the same bigots and now they’ve become a convenient tool to oppose equal marriage, yet the majority of them didn’t even want them either. This is the true despicable face of the nasty party, the majority of them sadly.

  6. An equal right to die and to be trained to kill but not an equal right to marry. Heads he wins tails we lose. Mr Francois: get stuffed.

Mark Francois has a particularly shameful record on gay rights and has voted AGAINST every piece of gay equality legislation that has come before him since being elected as an MP in 2001. To claim then that he is committed to equal treatment for LGBT members of the armed forces lacks any credibility.

And ‘free vote’ or not, someone with the kind of anti-gay trackrecord as Francois has no place in a government that claims to be committed to fighting homophobic discrimination.

Cameron’s stated commitment to equality is seriously undermined by having the likes of Francois and indeed other anti-gay Ministers serve in his government.
