Having visited Costa Rica , it never occured to me that they would have that position on homosexuallity. But realizing the Catholic Church has such an influential hold on the population aswell as the Government I guess it is not a surprise. It just bothers me that such a gentle and friendly people would be so influenced in such an evil way. This also includes the Philippines aswell. Gay and transexual people are so visible in the culture from movies to regular inclusions by the general population. It seems strange that there is such an Official Stand of the Govn. and Church in these states. I wonder what would happen and what the Population would do if the Church or Government really tried to move against LGBT communities there. It seems the Church and the general population are at odds over their future. This is probably why the church and state have not tried any open move against the LGBT communities in these countries. The Backlash may prove to be too much for them to handle.
Costa Rica is a highly catholicised country. It will never modernise while the church holds such a stranglehold over the place. If the West hadn’t broken free of Vatican influences, we’d all still be forced to believe the earth is flat. Most organised, uber-wealthy religions are repressive, regressive and divisive. We need to move away from the dark ages.

The church has managed to exert influence on the government not to introduce equal marriage though.
Another piece of ammunition Boris Johnson can use in court.
