  1. Why do they have to be so annoying and OTT? It’s these gay celebrities that give the community a bad name and make us all look like drama queens. It’s completely unnecessary and they should stop being such attention whores.

  2. As far as I remember Elton John was against – gay marriage in California saying Civil unions was good enough …and gays asking for marriage was taking it too far … (Said from a man who entered Holy Matrimony with a woman – to hide the fact he was gay ….

  3. All they’re doing is getting married how does that make them attention whores?

  4. or how about they have one wedding and one civil ceremony and donate the ridiculous amount of money saved to campaign for marriage equality elsewhere?

    1. They’re probably hoping that the ridiculous amounts they spend on their weddings are offset buy the obscene amounts of money they receive from OK magazine.

  5. Has David Furnish forgotten his roots? Why haven’t they got married in Canada? After all it’s been legal here since 2006. They also have a home here in the Muskokas!!!

Exactly!! One minor correction though. Equal marriage been on the books since 2005. If they had married in David’s home province — Ontario — they could have done so in 2003 and they would celebrating their 20th anniversary by now.

      1. I didn’t know metric years were that short…

I think for the rest of the world, they would have been celebrating their 10th anniversary.

      2. whoa, who the fu** downrated me for a fu**ing joke?

        1. Liam the God 26 Feb 2013, 4:58pm

Some people have no sense of humour. It’s happened to me, too.

  6. Actually, heterosexuals in some countries can have 2 weddings – a civil ceremony (the required ceremony for the marriage) and if they wish, a church ceremony. The same lavishness and same guests at both ceremonies in many instances! I think we’d all be happy just to be able to have one marriage ceremony.

  7. Suddenly Last Bummer 23 Feb 2013, 8:27pm

Why not get married just the once and not flaunt your wealth in a vulgar ostentatious manner in the faces of people- many of whom would be happy to just get as far as a register office. He really is vile and out of touch. Does he think he’s making some grand political gesture? He’s no different to the chav illiterate football players earning 200k a week who wrap their new sports car around a tree or into a wall and then just buy another one.

  8. I’m sure most New Zealanders would be deeply honoured if Sir Elton and David decided to wed in our country when marriage equality arrives here as well. And just think of the scenic backdrop, guys!

    1. Scenic backdrop? What, Australia? ;-)

      1. Thumbs down to both Craig’s post and my reply – obviously some people don’t have a sense of humour. Oh well. :-p

        1. Because its racist and offensive to Australians, some people just don’t get it, so much from hate from you. Are you homophobic as well?

Great: “Look how rich WE are, Proles!”. Thanks Elton. Most people are having a hard time paying their rent and feding their family, so you ponce off to LA and splash a few million Bucks and sell the story to Hello! or whoever. Elton John, the Pink Tory.
Elton, go f*ck yourself with your Ego!
    All the best, Bonkers Ron.

  10. There’s no surer way of devaluing marriage than making all about repeat vulgar spectacle for the sake of cheap publicity. Thanks Elton – you’ve just undone a large proportion, if not all, the good you’ve done in the past.

  11. 19 years of just sucking Elton off? Christ, David deserves more than two weddings for that service to humanity.

  12. Elton John and David Furnish , the poster children of the ugly british celebrity culture. And PinkNews, their media whores. NOT reporting on their life would do society a great service!

This article raises a question that I hadn’t thought of before. When as man in knighted, his wife usually takes the title “Lady”. If Sir Elton and David Furnish marry, will David have the option of assuming the title that goes with marriage to a knight? It’s obviously yet another way, in which civil partnerships/unions are not equal to marriage.

    1. Frank, I never realised that before and probably many of us haven’t so thanks for bringing it to our attention! Sir Elton and Lady David or Sir & Sir! Though, I doubt arrangements for this eventuality will be included in the legislation. I wonder have MPs even thought about it? (though I could be wrong). If it’s not included then same-sex marriage will not be entirely equal marriage, just nearly equal marriage. I wonder what would happen if a future King or Queen were to marry their same-sex partner? Could there be a King and King or Queen and Queen or perhaps King & Queen will still do? lol. Some constitutional questions raised by this!

      1. It has never been equal – the husbands of Queens Victoria and Elizabeth II didn’t become kings. In the extremely unlikely event of a gay king getting married to another man, I daresay the spouse could be made a royal duke, as with the Duke of Edinburgh. By the time that eventuality arises, the whole concept of hereditary titles and royalty may well have exited altogether.

        1. “The whole concept of hereditary titles and royalty may well have exited altogether”.

          Hopefully!

    2. I expect it will only really become an issue if there’s a couple where one has taken the name of the other, as all women married to titled men do. In Scotland, where women can inherit titles in the absence of male heirs, their husbands don’t take their rank.

I doubt Charlie Parsons feels the need to take on his partner Lord Alli’s status, though at formal parties it’d be interesting to know how precendence is sorted out.

Even if Proposition 8 gets overturned and gay marriages once again become legal in California, will non-US citizens like Sir Elton John and David Furnish be allowed to marry under Californian/US law even though they are legally resident there? What ever happens I wish them all the best. Thanks to Sir Elton and David the profile of gay people have been raised considerably.

and good luck to them too!!

  16. my invite must have gotten lost in the post then!

  17. adifferentperspective 24 Feb 2013, 1:42pm

Are they also expecting a funeral at Westminister Abbey or St. Patrick Cathedral NY too?

    1. why not one at each?
it’s not like the corpse is going to decompose on the trip… it hasn’t decomposed yet!

  18. Julian Morrison 24 Feb 2013, 4:13pm

Surely at least one of those places will turn them down, on account of already being married in the other.

    1. You can have as many weddings as you like, though there isn’t a double of the paperwork every time you do it. You have one certificate of marriage. Any other weddings are basically just for show.

It’s like people who “renew their vows”. It’s like a whole new wedding, but without any official paperwork.

Oh, and don’t call me Shirley.

  19. If we would only be able to turn our envy and bitterness into love and support. I feel sorry for all you that slag them off. I say: “Bless them and all the best!” Get a life people.

    1. adifferentperspective 25 Feb 2013, 11:07am

Why then should it be acceptable and blantant of the LGBT community, as a straight couple will only get married once, why then should LGBT people not be satified with just one marriage/civil partnership? ANy changes in the law should be retrospected so that for those already in Civil Partnerships will be covered by the upcoming changes in law, is that not enough?

  20. The kid in the picture will suffer

  21. Maybe Elton can ask Rush Limbaugh to perform at HIS wedding.

  22. Most commentators are just miserable little prats who have nothing else to do but slamming Elton John – hidden behind their anonymity. Get a life…
