  1. gay men are good actors, we spend a lot of time pretending to be straight.

  2. What is the relevance of the fact he studied Law and German at Bristol? I’m sure it’s true, but what does it add to our understanding of this issue? As far as I can tell there is no legal or Germanic component to the story, and his experiences as a student don’t affect what happened here in the slightest.

  3. Hopefully Derren will learn that it’s dangerous to ruminate openly on dodgy topics, even to gay journalists working for magazines like Gay Times – dangerous because, as has happened, words can so easily be highlighted in a malicious way by the likes of other journalists, lsuch as those often employed by gutter-press newspapers like “The Sun”.

  4. The Sun misrepresenting someone’s words, and from an interview in a different publication at that? What a shock!

  5. I’m glad we clarified that, TBH it didn’t sound like the kind of thing Derren Brown would seriously contemplate as a cheap TV stunt, given his personal experience of what’s involved.
He dabbled with it briefly, long ago before he came out and became an atheist.
He’s been there, done that and got the t-shirt, and his conclusions in every account I’ve read of his were that ex-gay cures are a case of going through the motions, pushed by fundamentalist quacks with a dubious moral agenda.

  6. I would hope that when Derren denied the reports this morning as being “made up” he did so before reading our shocked reactions on yesterday’s PN item.

In can’t be denied that Derren is going all out to shock these days, with each news series seemingly striving to out-shock the last.

“Turning” a straight man “gay” for even a few minutes would certainly appear to be par for the course, but thankfully he will not now be considering such a stunt.

    1. According to Twitter he posted about the Sun story being rubbish 19 hours ago (it’s 12.56 on Tuesday as I write).

Can you imagine the uproar if he tried to turn a christian bigot into an atheist via hypnosis.

  8. The Sun? Does that comic still exist?

Rupert Murdoch is considering axing Page 3 of The Sun.
He should take out pages 1-2 and 4-36 while he’s at it.

      1. He should, but isn’t it (rather shockingly) the paper with the biggest circulation in the UK? He’s not going to shut down a money-spinner like that on grounds of taste.

I can see the bigots watching this one with hope and glee.. you just know they don’t need any excuses to think being gay is changeable.

Typical of The Sun though to make up something to sell their crappy paper.

  10. What did he expect from The Sun? They can’t even steal a story from GT and get things right. They have always made up a story if they haven’t actually got one.

I remember The Sun 30+ years ago. Almost daily they where attacking gay people. Daily headlines outing prominent people as well as us ordinary folk. They didn’t of course use the word Gay, instead it was homo, queer and other unsavoury applets. They caused untold misery and destroyed the lives of many. Why anyone with a reasonable amount of education or intelligence would read this sensationalist sleezepaper is beyond me. It does after all only require a reading age of 6!

For over 30 years I have said I wouldn’t wipe my arse with The Sun.

Vote with your feet guys don’t give Murdock your money. Cancel your Sky subscription and don’t buy his homophobic papers (I keep hoping for a solar flare to take out his satellites)

The Sun will twist anyone’s words to sell copy. I wouldn’t wipe my arse with that rag. I just hope it goes the way of NOTW and sinks to the bottom of the cesspit.

I am sure Derren Brown has far more integrity than to even intimate crap like that.
