Another backward country that should be booted out of the EU. I hope more LGBT people are able to get out of that hell hole of a country where the Catholic church holds sway.

Backward? Anything but. Poland was the first European country to have a transsexual MP. You want to boot out Poland? Think of us – gay people of Poland first. Polish society was fucked up because the UK first facilitated Hitler to surround Poland, then betrayed it by the phoney war, and the USA sold it to communism in Jalta. And now some ingenuine People say about the Poland which was a consequence of the past, to boot Poland out of the EU? Whaaat?
If something is to be done, the UK should carry on the efforts to reintegrate Poland to the rest of Poland’s roots in Western Europe, rather than Central Europe, and act to help gay community in Poland to strengthen. No more escapes, Britain!

well, mr kensington does not sound like a very tolerant person. by the way, the title is misleading, people leave because they want better paid jobs not because they want to change gender. another thing is, how can you be elected to be in parliament and still claim that those who elected you are ignorant? it does not make sense to me…

Just a correction, she isn’t Europe’s first transgender MP, that honour goes to Vladimir Luxuria from Italy. Anna is, however, Europe’s first transsexual MP.

I live in Poland. I work in Poland. I am a foreigner in Poland but I teach Polish children to speak English and help them and their families to understand about the LGBT Community. The Lord God has given me many students as people here open their doors to learn and understand about the world that they are part of and that has been denied them for so many years under the Communist system. It is a standard policy of mine to tell all students and in pRticular new students that I am Gay. I have had some students reject me and I hold no grudge or animosity against them. I only feel sorry for them and their families because they continue to live in the past. The intelligent and enlightened students and their families who accept the fact that I am Gay are happy people with a bright future. Homophobia does exist in Poland and many thousands of members of the LGBT Community have left the country. Homophobia and Gay hate is taught in many Polish schools and by the RCC and this has to stop…….

my son lived in poland for several years, can’t relate to any of it. this comment is strange, people leave because they look for jobs not because they’re gays, of course gays will use this excuse rather than say that they can’t find job, it sound better if you add some drama to it. play victim it may help you get a job in UK, right? under communism there was no discrimination toward gays, still isn’t , its in gay people’s heads. nobody says anything to them unless you provoke , some “happenings” are to provoke and of course you’ll find people to react, but that is everywhere even in san francisco. nobody teaches anything about gays in schools in poland, this is crazy, please give one school’s name? we’ll check. gay subject is not in curriculum, its a way of life , gays are not objects to be described in textbooks, sir…

…..Poland is not a bad place and the Polish people that I work with a lovely, and willing to learn. Hatred of the LGBT Community plus the lack of educational material about the LGBT Community in schools and in the public domain is seriously lacking. A muzzle must be put on all people who teach negative information about the LGBT Community. There are no anti-discrimination laws in Poland and this must change. Huge sums of money are being poured into the country but none of it is getting to the people who need it most and this includes the LGBT Community. In the eyes of the government, Poland consists of Warsaw only, the rest of the country does not matter or exist. I work with many underpriviladged families doing what I can to alleviate the extreme physical, mental and spiritual poverty here, but I am only one man and I have limited resources. Many young gay men from the age of 17 are thrown out into the street by their anti-gay families. I wish I could do more to help.
