Facebook have removed a page devoted to the practice of unprotected sex between consenting male partners, otherwise known as ‘barebacking’, after it received more than 20,000 likes.

The company’s Community Standards prohibit nudity, underage pornographic content and promotion of self-harm, among other restrictions.

Yesterday, Queerty noted that some members of the page appeared to be using it as a way to find and hook up with other men looking to have unprotected sex.

Later on Tuesday, Facebook confirmed to the Huffington Post that the page has since been removed.

Last month, a US study showed that 47% of gay and bisexual men surveyed had admitted to barebacking “always, often or sometimes.”

Meanwhile, the UK’s Health Protection Agency has blamed a return of risky sexual practices for rising HIV cases in gay men.
