London’s gay community is being urged to help save a popular gay pub from the threat of closure.

Tower Hamlets Council has approved the sale of The Old Ship in Limehouse, east London, and it’s now said to be under new management.

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets owns the freehold of 17 Barnes Street, where the venue is situated.

A petition to save The Old Ship from the threat closure has now been set up.

Concerned gay residents say its demise would be a massive blow to the local gay community at a time when several LGBT venues in the capital have recently been forced to shut their doors.

Last month, Q Soft Consulting, the owners of dating website Gaydar closed its central London bar, Profile, after it was revealed it had a debt of £2,953,452.
