The majority of catholic MPs voted FOR the gay marriage proposal last week. (47 for, 28 against and 7 abstain according to catholiculture.org) Not even the pronounced bullying by the men in purple dresses seems to have been effective!
As a lay catholic who supports equal marriage I am constantly astonished by the jaw-droppingly bigoted comments that some of our Bishops keep producing. Have they no shame after the endless accounts of clerical abuse of children, and the hundreds of millions spent, rightly, on paying off the victims, which could have spent on proper charitable works. These bishops have become fully fledged pharisees.
If a non-Catholic MP voted against marriage equality, which side of eternity would they find themselves on?
Basically the bishop is just using the marriage issue as a kind of “soul” death threat.

What in Heaven’s name (as it were) has equal marriage got to do with eternity? Does this creature really think that his ‘life of the world to come’ is going to be altered by civil marriage being extended to same-sex couples? What a fool he must be.
Frankly, I rather wish he and his ilk would become acquainted with eternity sooner rather than later. I understand it can be achieved by such a simple expedient as taking a dive off a cross-Channel ferry.
Did the pagans get a choice at what religion they wanted? Time and History show many social changes. Time people could show their love for the person of their choice instead of being manipulated by Religion and Governments
Well what this little nasty creep needs to realise is that Marriage Equality was democratically voted for and it has nothing what so ever to do with him, his fellow extremists or even his warped religion.

Hmmm, OK – but you obviously don’t believe in treating every human being equally, do you? Even though we’re all – according to you – created in god’s image. So even according to your own beliefs, your logic is flawed.
And why aren’t you objecting about the divorce law? Your bible says that any re-marriage after divorce is adultery, so why don’t you care about that? Could it just possibly be because it largely involves *straight* people?
Anyway, Christianity doesn’t own marriage – no religion does. Have your Christian marriages in the way you choose, but keep your nose out of state business and stop trying to force your religion’s definition of marriage on everyone else.
Davies – you have only one view of life and faith. I appreciate your goal… I just do not approve of your methods.
Get a grip because just as proficy has foretold, the end of the Catholic Church may well be within the next Pope’s reign and many will be saying – “Good Ridden”.

Anyway, the last time I popped into the Bishop of Shrewsbury’s rather lacklustre “cathedral” in Shrewsbury, I found that 90% of the very thin number of people attending the mass that was about to begin were Filipinos. There were very few British faces. And certainly NO young British faces.

If the Catholics loved as God does they wouldn’t be trying to interfere with the extension of legal rights to any group of people. They should have no right to attempt to persuade the legal process in any form. They are exposing themselves as God’s shamed and lose relevance more and more as human beings evolve intelligently.
