  1. Really? Did he see that in the entrails of a sacrificed goat? Or a crystal ball? Or any of the other idiotic magical crap that they spout?

I am NO bloody christian and revile all that ignorant drivel and to force me to comply is nothing but tyranny, no different than forcing Shariah on people.

    Screw their pathetic church.

    1. Love you, Valksy, – if I may! Well said!

  2. He may be Reverend, but he certainly isn’t Right.

Adapt to survive, mister bishop, or you’ll see what the majority opinion does for your church in future.

  3. hahahahaha…..Davies you fool , how can you threaten people with something they dont believe in

  4. The majority of catholic MPs voted FOR the gay marriage proposal last week. (47 for, 28 against and 7 abstain according to Not even the pronounced bullying by the men in purple dresses seems to have been effective!

As a lay catholic who supports equal marriage I am constantly astonished by the jaw-droppingly bigoted comments that some of our Bishops keep producing. Have they no shame after the endless accounts of clerical abuse of children, and the hundreds of millions spent, rightly, on paying off the victims, which could have spent on proper charitable works. These bishops have become fully fledged pharisees.

  5. If a non-Catholic MP voted against marriage equality, which side of eternity would they find themselves on?

Basically the bishop is just using the marriage issue as a kind of “soul” death threat.

  6. Nice dress …..

    1. Shame about the face…!

  7. Oh shut up do, you silly old fool. I’m sick of hearing them spouting hot air.

  8. What in Heaven’s name (as it were) has equal marriage got to do with eternity? Does this creature really think that his ‘life of the world to come’ is going to be altered by civil marriage being extended to same-sex couples? What a fool he must be.

Frankly, I rather wish he and his ilk would become acquainted with eternity sooner rather than later. I understand it can be achieved by such a simple expedient as taking a dive off a cross-Channel ferry.

Did the pagans get a choice at what religion they wanted? Time and History show many social changes. Time people could show their love for the person of their choice instead of being manipulated by Religion and Governments

Well what this little nasty creep needs to realise is that Marriage Equality was democratically voted for and it has nothing what so ever to do with him, his fellow extremists or even his warped religion.

  11. “As Christians we believe in a radical equality: recognising that every human person without exception, is created in the image and likeness of God, redeemed and loved by Christ and called to eternal life”.

Hmmm, OK – but you obviously don’t believe in treating every human being equally, do you? Even though we’re all – according to you – created in god’s image. So even according to your own beliefs, your logic is flawed.

And why aren’t you objecting about the divorce law? Your bible says that any re-marriage after divorce is adultery, so why don’t you care about that? Could it just possibly be because it largely involves *straight* people?

Anyway, Christianity doesn’t own marriage – no religion does. Have your Christian marriages in the way you choose, but keep your nose out of state business and stop trying to force your religion’s definition of marriage on everyone else.

Davies – you have only one view of life and faith. I appreciate your goal… I just do not approve of your methods.
Get a grip because just as proficy has foretold, the end of the Catholic Church may well be within the next Pope’s reign and many will be saying – “Good Ridden”.

Wicked old frustrated fart…all upset because the church have lost the power to control people…not to mention the fact that molesting and raping young boys are getting harder to do….

  14. Has no one told him that this is a “civil” matter and not a issue of Catholic dogma?

  15. Dave North 11 Feb 2013, 3:09pm

    Earth to Bishop Davies.

    All things end.

There is no such thing as eternity.

    1. Well said! Extraordinary that they absolutely believe in “eternity”, isn’t it.

  16. If you saw this man on the street in a suit, you’d think he was a good-looking, and probably pleasant, older man. But, no, he’s a major homophobe.

Anyway, the last time I popped into the Bishop of Shrewsbury’s rather lacklustre “cathedral” in Shrewsbury, I found that 90% of the very thin number of people attending the mass that was about to begin were Filipinos. There were very few British faces. And certainly NO young British faces.

  17. piss off, davies…

  18. Dave north 11 Feb 2013, 3:53pm

    Dear PN.

Please change the photo of this man.

That pious sanctimonious image of him , hands in prayer, self righteous smug grin on his face drives me made.

  19. If the Catholics loved as God does they wouldn’t be trying to interfere with the extension of legal rights to any group of people. They should have no right to attempt to persuade the legal process in any form. They are exposing themselves as God’s shamed and lose relevance more and more as human beings evolve intelligently.

  20. I here there’s a vacancy for the top job. Sounds like Dark Mavis is making a bid.

    1. *hear – sorry!

    2. If you know his nickname you must move in Catholic circles. He’s only preaching what the Church teaches, he can’t change it even if he wanted to, so leave him alone.

I’m surprised the article didn’t start, like so many others on this website, with “The anti-gay…”

      1. “He’s only preaching what the Church teaches, he can’t change it even if he wanted to, so leave him alone.”

        That’s rich, … har har har…..

Why don’t you just say that he has locked himself in a labyrinth of lies and half-truths and has thrown away the key?

  21. ..Are these people actually really serious?–it’s quite obvious that Gay people are simply not decent and are going straight to hell!….well, how original and what a surprise, those poor sad idiots who haven’t got a life–I believe that the so-called heterosexuals of this World feel Gays have more variety in their lives and more fun so the straights are just jealous!!

  22. Brenda Louise 11 Feb 2013, 6:48pm

Here again, a person in a leadership capacity misses the gay marriage point and is 100% wrong in his anti-gay statements. People have the right to live their life the way they want. It’s their decision to enter into a gay marriage relationship. Just as like it’s the persons right to be a Muslim, a Buddhist, or an Atheist. It’s also their choice to be in a gay partnership. The Bishop speaks from a religious Theocracy where every communicant is to follow the leadership’s decrees with no critique input whatsoever. The Roman Catholic people who go against the Grand Puba’s agendas are shunned and ordered to shut up.

  23. Bishop Dark Mavies up to her her usual hate filled homophobia, simply denying her inner self – Has anyone heard the bitter Queen speak, or observed her camp manerisms? he is camper than Larry Grayson’s knickers!

  24. Robert A. Cuthbertson, M.D. 12 Feb 2013, 12:37am

Mr. Davies…being on the wrong side of history can actually damage know like Galileo was a heretic, the Earth was flat, the center of the universe, and stuff like that..
Then there are the laws of your church that were changed around 1300 AD…by La Palud and a few others making “marriage” a sacrament and ending the tradition of the RCC marrying people of the same sex. Yes, you read that correctly. Do your actually might learn something.

  25. Now I wonder which side of eternity (?!) the esteemed bishop will be on?

    1. Ward Stewart 21 May 2013, 11:36pm

      Hopefully not mine!

  26. … and this from a member of an organisation whose officials know absolutely zero about marriage. Laughable. Best ignored.
