We don’t know what the result of the vote will be but the fact that they are having it demonstrates some introspection.
Strangely they say ”The Boy Scouts would not, under any circumstances, dictate a position to units, members or parents”
Well, they don’t shy away, in their rule book, from directing everyone to fall on their knees to the glory of God. Unreasonable, I’d say.
Two things. First they’re not removing the ban they’re simply shifting it to local chapters. If they were really removing the ban then they’d prevent all of its affiliates from preventing gay members. Still it’s a move in the right direction.
The other issue is that this has nothing to do with a change of heart and everything to do with them losing money hand over fist as their sponsors continue to desert them. I guess that shows the power of money but I think it’s a shame it came to that.
