  1. Oooo! Those old Tory bigots are still there aren’t they, frothing at the mouth over gay rights? Cameron might utter gay-friendly platitudes but his rank-and-file are waiting in the wings to spew forth their hatred and anti-equality sentiment at every opportunity.

    1. I’m fed up with this crap. While what was said to Worrow was appalling the man himself is a fly by night opportunist who used to be somewhere to the right of Thatcher. The man will jump on any available bandwagon and though this particular fight is just his motives for pretty much everything must be called into question.

      1. Looks like a Thanet Conservative abusing Cllr Worrow, even on here

      2. Councillor John Worrow 27 Jan 2013, 1:46pm

That of course is a total lie, hullo is a Conservative supported from Thanet

  2. Councllor John Worrow 23 Jan 2013, 4:01pm

The the point that is being missed here, is that Thanet Council’s Conservative leader Bob Bayford has only just allowed homophobic Cllr Ken Gregory back into Thanet Conservatives despite the fact that CllrGregory has failed to apologise or show any remorse what-so-ever. Cllr Bob Bayford did, however, complain to the standards committee about me for calling him and a colleague homophobes. I left the Conservative group because of homophobic attidudes and I am sick and tired of seeing stories about how progressive the Conservatives are when I know its not for real. David Cameron and his office ignored my cry for help and continue to do so. What does this tell you about Thanet Conservatives? The local MP Sir Roger Gale insulted local Equal Marriage Campaigners by calling us “Millitant Homosexuals” Where is the national press?

I totally agree with you. What galls me is someone like Sir Roger Gale, three times married mouthing off against equal marriage and family values. Why is it Tory supporters of equal marriage in and out of Parliament aren’t going after their bigoted party members to blow the spurious, often hateful rhetoric out of the water and expose the religion-based instigated bigotry for what it is?

But, if you resign, they win…. you were voted in for a reason, were you not? You can’t just take your balls and go home… but then, as Men Without Hats said on their final album, “I don’t want to be a messiah, messiahs die young”…

Many of us stand along what you are having to cope with now because Cllr Ken Gregory’s comments reveal a homophobia that is as puerile as full of hate. Then he effectively gets away with it because the Tory party is composed of a cultural bigotry that reveals its pro-gay stance as purely bogus. Everything the Tories do provides window dressing that is mere posturing but which intends to change nothing whatever. If you needed another example, look at the decriminalisation of gay offences in October of last year. You soon see how few people qualify and how it does not address the post-1967 offences at all. Many have been forced to emigrate because of Tory anti-gay policies. I am sorry the UK has come to this point where bigotry and uncivilised behaviour are effectively unchallenged. Cllr Worrow’s resignation is sad but, these persecutions that have made life unpleasant enough for him to go, indicate where we will remain in society if these bigots have their way.

I was present when you shouted at the Conservative Group “homophobes” and “you know what you are” (you pointed at the Group while shouting at them). There was no doubt that you meant the whole Group. You’ve made these accusations against the Tories for well over a year now, without evidence. You complained to the Party before leaving and as you well know it was your word against theirs and so it couldn’t proceed.

Your handling of this has alienated what support you had at the Council and has seen you lose the most prominent member of your Group in Ian Driver. Why do you still have Gregory’s message on your phone 9 months after you received it? You played the last section (clearly that wasnt the whole message) on local news last month.

I don’t know who you are, Mr Maskell, but if John Worrow has, on his answerphone, a Tory councillor telling him that “with a bit of luck, you’ll get AIDS”, you can hardly say that he;s got no evidence of homophobia in the Tory Party on Thanet council. Shameful that your vile, bigoted, hate-filled Tory councillor Ken Gregory is allowed to remain ont he council, claiming public money no doubt for “expenses”, doubly shameful that the Tories didn’t expel him permanently.

I think its a really important thing that we highlight the backward stances many councils can have to liberation areas- what has happened to John is disgraceful and I hope things work out for him and for Thanet

  4. “with a bit of luck, you’ll get aids.”

Cllr Worrow, have you considered a complaint about insulting language, contrary to the Public Order Act?

    1. Clamping down on free speech, yet again, are we? This website really is a haven for little Joe Stalins, isn’t it?

      1. Li Thotomist 24 Jan 2013, 3:51pm

Funny how bullies stand up for “free speech” when a member of a mionority is being abused.

  5. Bisexual is just plain greedy – with thanks and apologies to ‘Gimme Gimme Gimme :)

He is a freemason as well as an arsehole bigot and an all round nasty piece of work by the looks of it.

    1. Of course he is a freemason, if anyone else would of said what he did the Police would of given them more that an just caution!
