    1. As well as rednecks, it seems.

      1. Yeah, but the redneck was there with his wife…obviously showing what a “man” he is by taking the “little woman” out to a chick flick so he could get laid afterward. She’d “owe him”, after all, for his “doing her the favor” of taking her out.
        *snark*!

  3. I hope the redneck authorities in Louisiana are pressured into recognising this as the hate crime it clearly was.

Hate crime only applies if it’s committed against people–apparently gays are something less than.

    2. From The Advocate
“A police spokesman told The Advertiser he was unsure why officers did not charge Menard with a hate crime, but noted that because the homophobic comments are in the police report, the prosecutor and judge may consider adding such charges when Menard appears in court.”

The US South is deeply homophobic and many behave as if it is a christian theocracy. That includes politicians and authorities. So unfortunately such attacks are not surprising.

And the fact that this violent bigot is not being charged under hate crimes laws speaks volumes.

  7. The reason that we need to remain engaged to the political fight is illistrated in this story. When the laws are enacted and enforced (by our pressure), people will be fearful of committing these types of crimes. LA isn’t progressing as fast as the rest of the country but it will if we all focus our demands on the law there.

That’s a shame … because the violent bit o’ redneck rough is kinda’ cute. I wouldn’t mind seeing what his cute little ears look like flapping from behind. Maybe I’ll tell him!
