Good for him, but what always strikes me as odd about these stories is that the people concerned never connect their former hostility with the revelations of homophobia suffered by their new gay friends which cause the change of heart. It implies a very weak sense of cause and effect and maybe also of personal responsibility in some people.
I welcome his change of heart, just as I welcome Chuck Hagel’s change of heart. I just hope those LGBT groups who are now campaigning against Hagel’s nomination because of his past comments also campaign against Brooker, otherwise they would be totally hypocritical. Again, I accept both of this gentlemen’s change of heart. I wish some LGBT groups would do the same. After all, isn’t that exactly what we want? To change people’s hearts? It doesn’t matter if the change of heart comes from someone from the political left or right.

Seems like a cool bloke, if a little blunt.
Blunt can be good, especially in a politician (at least then you know where you stand with them). I do admire this man’s honesty.
Proof that education is essential in schools to teach the day to day tasks of growing up.
I appauld his honesty and his intelligence in older life. I hope he does well.
What a brave and honourable man. I respect your honesty Sir.
Thanks for your candour. May others learn from your experience.
How much more admirable than the, “I have gay friends, but……….” nonsense.
It takes a strong and intelligent man to have their fears and opinions changed.
All the best for a strong political future.
What made him change his mind? Sucking on a knob?
How old are you? 12?
