The surrogate mother of Sir Elton John, and his husband David Furnish, has given birth to their second child, reports have suggested.

Back in November, it was reported that Sir Elton John and his civil partner David Furnish were expecting their second child, from the same surrogate mother who gave birth to their son Zachary.

Sir Elton and Mr Furnish celebrated the birth of their first child, Zachary, on Christmas day 2010, using the same  California-based surrogate who is reported to have given birth today.

He previously said: “I would like Zachary to have a sibling. I think he would be better with a sibling than on his own. It’s something we talk about all the time.”

The Rocket Man singer since spoke out about his 20-month old son’s future, and the challenges he may face as the son of a gay couple, saying it might be difficult at school for Zachary. He has also said, however:

“I think it changes everybody. It’s the most wonderful thing that you could possibly go through. I regret a little bit that I didn’t do it sooner, but he has changed our lives. Everything is about him now.”

The gender of the second child is unknown, and represnting Sir Elton, Fran Curtis, said “we never discuss our clients’ personal lives.”

Most social media messages were of congratulations, however David Quinn, of Director of the Iona institute, a Catholic lobby group, tweeted about the news: “A second child deliberately deprived of its mother.”

Sir Elton’s announcement is hot on the heels of comedian, Rosie O’Donnell, who announced yesterday that she and her wife Michelle Rounds had celebrated the birth of a baby girl Dakota.
