Maybe it was a choirboy that handcuffed him and made his escape! Not to mention the great compassion from his cardinal to give the priest a leave of absence after learning of the priest predicament and emotionally traumatic experience, after which he might return to a different another parish/diocese because the “predicament”

  7. I’m not entirely sure what this story has to do with LGBT people, apart from the welcome schadenfreude at seeing our natural enemies – catholic priests – brought down a peg or two.

Actually, never mind. It’s worth publishing for that alone.

That’s a good reason why it shouldn’t have been published in the first place.

No campaigning group should have any reason to attack anyone unless it is because of hypocrisy or bigotry on the part of the ACTUAL person/people they’re aiming at.

        Post a reply →
        1. I think it is a clear case of hypocrisy and therefore justifiable as a news piece. The RC church do not approve of such “perversions”. If this priest believes that such activities are good practice he should have spoken out about it. If not he’s a hypocrite.

          Catholic teaching on masturbation.

          “masturbation is always morally wrong.”

“It has been the constant and clear teaching of the Church from principles found in Holy Scripture that masturbation is a serious sin”

“solitary sex in itself contradicts the meaning of human sexuality”

That the Catholic Church should have a stand in something does not mean that this particular priest is either a hypocrite or a bigot…

And religion doesn’t attack gay people? What about that hateful Christmas message delivered by Archbishop Nichols? What about the spurious rhetoric describing gay marriages as grotesque by Cardinal O’Brien? What about the allusion to polygamy, incest and bestiality as a result of equal marriage fomented by the church? Mendacious statements that they’ve not even been able to support with one shred of evidence, bearing false witness against gay people. That’s not an attack? They deserve it back in kind.

You should at least admit that the RC church attacks us, be honest.

  8. I’m just wondering how this private information got out into the public domain.

Woe betide any Catholic priest these days who gives the appearance of having done anything remotely resembling the sexually unorthodox.

After the attacks on LGBT people and our right to marry by the Vatican and the bishops, and the classification of our sex lives as disordered and immoral, people are going to be watching the CC’s unreconstructed mediaeval organisation like a hawk.

For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction: though as far as the reaction to the Catholic Church’s homophobia and other sexual hypocrisy is concerned, the reaction is going to far exceed its expectations.

They are unleashing a tsunami of opposition: and the fact this private incident has been publicised is a mere drop in that ocean.

    1. “I’m just wondering how this private information got out into the public domain.”

Typically police reports are not private. Back in the days of local newspapers there was usually a “police blotter” column with information taken from police reports.

According to other sites he has testified against equal marriage to a senate committee. It is thus relevant because he is guilty of suspect and implicitly sexual practices, while ostensibly living by a moral code that precludes such things and using that as a basis to preach his homophobia.

Might I direct you to a thesaurus? Instead of ‘hypocrisy’, thesaurus.com suggests you might use bad faith, bigotry, cant, casuistry, deceit, deception, dishonesty, display, dissembling, dissimulation, double-dealing, duplicity, false profession, falsity, fraud, glibness, imposture, insincerity, irreverence, lie, lip service, mockery, pharisaicalness, pharisaism, phoniness, pietism, quackery, sanctimoniousness, sanctimony, speciousness or unctuousness.

I mention this merely because all your posts, produced during a fevered session of prolonged banging at the keyboard from which you’re no doubt gratefully resting, use the word ad nauseum.

For fun, create a checklist and do a google search for ‘Catholic’ and one of the above synonyms. Note the number of search results.
