On the other hand, people are far too quick to reach for labels of mental illness and the use of disparaging terms like ‘nutter, ‘nutcase’, ‘straightjacket’, ‘keep taking the medication’ and so on.
Assuming this guy is genuine and not a spoof there is no evidence he has a mental illness or needs any form of medication (straightjackets in any case are not used in the UK) and wouldn’t be used in any event with someone who merely has some unusual ideas.
One can have strange ideas without that consituting mental illness and this constant reference to people as ‘having a mental illness’ as a means of disparaging them is very unfortunate – we are trying to reduce stigma and discrimination faced by people with mental health problems.
