and what happens if one of the parents is gay. get real people. there are lots of children without loving home, why can a stable gay couple not provide care and love for that child. it is a lot better that leaving that child anywhere near a Catholic priest, too many priests in that church are child molesters

    1. Actually stats show that the Catholic Church has one of the lowest rates of child sex abuse compared to other institutes…Also it is a fact the vast majority of the children which priests abused were boys! I will allow you to draw your own conclusions…

I have read more nonsense than this article; it was written by Lewi Carroll

  3. Curiously, the video can neither be commented on nor liked/disliked. It’s as if they don’t want their views discussed or something…

    1. you can, however, report the video to Youtube.
if enough people complain their account will be closed by Youtube.

      1. I’m content to leave it up there and have the idiocy speak for istelf

  4. Well, this is a new one! Not sure whether to laugh or cry at these people?

  5. of course.all this time i hadn’t realised that not being married actually prevented me from having and raising children with my same sex partner. blimey! i better go out and find myself a girly looking man to rectify that. dont know how my teenagers are going to feel about that after all this time, but hey ho what ya gonna do.

  6. What a load of incoherent bollocks.

I was going to make a joke about a Catholic think tank being a contradiction in terms, but I don’t really want to make jokes about something that is completely evil in all senses of the word. And they have the brass to maintain that they can’t be accused of bigotry because, well, they don’t want to be accused of bigotry. What about all those Irish children that were raised in workhouses because the Catholic Church didn’t approve of their parents, what about the children of priests, etc etc etc?

  8. Because there is nothing in Catholic history where single mothers were separated and children denied the right to have their own mother bring them up in the 1950’s and 60’s, was there?

    1. ...Paddyswurds 30 Dec 2012, 11:26pm

…and their children sold off like dogs to rich Americans and Germans…
some of whom could order a child in advance whereby the local priest would come into the Magdelan Laundry and rape a girl to provide the necessary. sometimes the local police sergeant would oblige.

    2. Or where married couples lost their children because they were deemed too liberal or socialist and not the right people to raise a child…. Oh, that never happened? But if it did it was all Franco and the Bishops, Nuns and Priests were forced to partake? Hmmmm, heard that excuse before…..

  9. No claim is too outlandish, no unsupported prediction too apocalyptic, for these people.

The sooner the UK and Ireland just get on and legislate for full equality, the sooner we can be free of this daily onslaught of hateful bile.

  10. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

  11. ...Paddyswurds 30 Dec 2012, 11:20pm

Irish Catholic Think Tank…let me guess…they meet in a phone box. This is so embarrassing and makes me so ashamed that I breath the same air and share the same piece of the Earth with these dinosaurs. Where do these people live and whaqt do they think they are talking about when less than half the children in the UK and Ireland live with both parents. The Catholic Cult has no credence in Ireland any more and they are just scrabbling about in the dark in desperation trying to regain the (undeserved) respect they once enjoyed until the Irish people discovered that they were the worlds biggest and most powerful paedo ring. Fit the think tank better if they thought about the vile sexual abuse carried out by the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland for the last 100 and maybe 1500 years on Irish children…….It isn’t over yet and I will say this without fear of contradiction; the Roman Catholic Cult WILL pay dearly for their crimes against our country sooner rather than later.

  12. “Think Tank!” now that is a good one… it has to be the most maligned misunderstanding of a concept by the catholic church!

Thinking is not one of their forte’s!

    1. ...Paddyswurds 30 Dec 2012, 11:30pm

I wonder if the vile paedo protector cardinal Sean Brady is a member of this so called “think tank”

  13. Mumbo Jumbo 30 Dec 2012, 11:39pm

Meanwhile, back in Blighty, Vincent Nichols, fresh from his nasty little Pope ordered Christmas message, is now encouraging Roman Catholics to deluge MPs with hate mail.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 31 Dec 2012, 12:28am

They probably will bombard their MPs with hate mail whereas there will be few of those in support contacting them to vote yes, giving the impression that more are against than for especially if their MP is Tory backbencher. There is just too much apathy in this debate on the supportive side I’m afraid.

  14. Well, let’s see if we can prove that straight couples are always better parents. Let’s take some hetero-bred kids from the single parent families on a filthy Dublin council estate and compare them to some kids from a loving, successful, educated gay couple who have thought through the implications of parenthood before embarking on it.
Surely, according to the “think tank” the barefooted, undernourished little glue sniffers are better off in all cases!
And if the kids are the main concern, what do they propose to do about the offspring of those in the Civil Partnerships they claim to support?

    1. BTW, I do not mean to imply that my description of council estate children is typical. I know there are many happy and functional families living in such places.

      1. Are you sure? I’ve never met any…

  15. The irony of Catholics putting children first in anything is just unbelievable.

  16. Where the hell do they think gay people come from?

Hint: When a man develops special feelings for a woman…

  17. This afternoon, as a sign of respect to her owner, my dog dropped something dead, furry and very possibly once mammalian at my feet.

I’m not sure what this damp scrap of fur might once have been – some small, dim-witted creature of the forrest, I suppose.

Whatever it was, I’m sure that in life it would have Assumed this video as being aimed at creatures w-a-y lower down the evolutionary scale than itself.

I mean, who (or possibly, what) is this video aimed at? And are they able to tie their own shoelaces?

  18. Georg Friedrich Prinz von Preussen 31 Dec 2012, 12:07am

Happy to read, that Irish Catholics are in favor of same-sex partnership – here in Germany they are much less tolerant, sadly. And they are right on impossibility of gay adoption: of course child needs both parents. maybe is possible same-sex marriage without adoption? It will be perfect solution for all. And lets be openly – gay couples, who wish marry and adopt, are minority in the minority; its egoistic to make own interests more important than this of all community – and they are: fight against discrimination every day in the school, on the street, in the workplace… Why this incredible obsession with marriage and kids?

    1. Dave North 31 Dec 2012, 1:36pm

Gay people are most definitely NOT the ones obsessing about this.

  19. There’s no legal requirement to have children if you get married and there is no legal requirement to get married if you get children. End of story.

  20. Robert in S. Kensington 31 Dec 2012, 12:30am

And wait until the Daily Mail and Telegraph get wind of this one.

  21. Talk about being on the wrong side of history

  22. I love the way they assume that it’s up to same-sex couples to demonstrate that they can be decent parents, but mixed-sex couples automatically get a free pass and in no way need to justify THEIR access to parenthood.

As it happens all the studies ever done show either no difference or same-sex parents being better parents, but that’s not the point. The point is that if you want to start imposing legal tests on who can look after children, you have to impose them on everybody and not just the people who have the fun kind of sex that your deranged imaginary friend has a problem with.

Also, why are they talking about parenthood? The issue here is marriage, which is an arrangement contracted by adults and has nothing to do with parenthood.

    1. Finally, if you don’t want to be called bigots and homophobes then don’t say bigoted and homophobic things, like the ones in the rest of your crappy letter and garish hate video.

If you had reasonable and evidence-based objections to basic human equality then we’d listen to them. We really would. But then again if you took reason and evidence seriously then you wouldn’t be simpering religious morons who believe in magic sky-tyrants and the idea that a piece of biscuit turns into the body of a zombie carpenter when a paedophile in a dress says some magic words over it.

  23. The Iona Institute is a hategroup – they are now pretending that they support CP’s whereas 2 years ago before they were introduced into Ireland they were massively against them.

The Iona Institute is supported by the child rapists of the catholic church

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 31 Dec 2012, 2:41pm

They echo what many Tory backbenchers believe. Most of them opposed civil partnerships and it didn’t exactly get a landslide when it passed in the Lords. CPs have suddenly become the opposition’s tool of choice to justify a ban on equal marriage, not that any of them would want a CP for themselves and we all know why don’t we? Proof that they’re all lying scumbags and homophobic bigoted hatemongers defending a perverted, immoral religious cult.

  24. Catholic priest can not get married, this makes Catholic priest into pedophiles who rape and abuse children. The women become Nuns who also have sexual problems but the Catholic Church hides that too. The Catholic Church denies birth control to women and men who can not afford children and the Catholic church lets women die instead of getting needed abortions that could save their lives and these crazy Catholics tell others about marriage and good parenting. These same Catholics are women haters and child abusers and child rapist..

  25. Many of you won’t recall this from personal memory, but there was a time when it was illegal for blacks and whites to marry or even cohabit. Further back in time, and it accepted that black people were not fully human. There was also a time when woman had no political rights.
Churches, both Catholic and protestant stood behind these claims and even dredged up scripture to back them up.
So it only stands to reason that the pattern of being on the wrong side of history is the position that organised religion has occupied since history was first recorded.
The liars who push their personal agenda under the guise of religion are nothing but an historical embarrassment.
I know, this all should have come to pass before most of you were born, but it didn’t, so there you have it. Nonetheless it will happen.
It’s not easy to be patient with fools.

  26. That There Other David (in Sitges) 31 Dec 2012, 11:11am

Nobody should ever listen to the views of the Catholic Church on the rights of children. It’s been proven that they have no moral authority on that subject whatsoever.

  27. Catholic think tank: now there’s a novelty!

  29. Garry Cassell 31 Dec 2012, 3:15pm

As the Irish know far too well…the children should be kept away from the Catholic church and their biggoted molesting priest…All Irish people know that fact all too well…but for some reason still think that their biggoted priest “the father knows best” attitude is still working in the favour of the biggoted molesting priest. The church don’t want to see that aspect of it but its a different stance soon as the word “gay” appears in the conversation…I guess too close to the church…keep blaming gays to reflect blame from themselves when they themselves are the worst gays…Molesting gays…trying to cover themselves by involking the name of God…what BUNK??

  30. Typical that the video is comment and rating disabled…Anything to prevent the small nasty concept as the “truth” on their pages.
    They’re afraid, ignorant and hateful.
They know that homosexuality is innate in nature, and catholicism is a dying fad.

  31. “Those who claim that same-sex couples and married opposite-sex couples should be treated identically must demonstrate that there is no advantage to children in encouraging men and women to marry. They must also demonstrate that children have no right to be raised by their own mother and father, even as a matter of first principle.”

Why? That has nothing to do with same-sex marriage. At all.

  32. “The Irish Catholic think tank the Iona Institute, has released a video and a document that argues that gay couples should be banned from marrying “for the sake of the children.” It also argues that same-sex marriage could lead to children not being brought up by their parents.” – I would be interested to read what they have to say about the recently published Daily Mail article about Paul Wood, the Warrington Wolves rugby player who walked out on this wife of six years, Shelly and their two children, George and Darcy, ages 4 years old and 20 months respectively, in order to life with a porn actress, Holly Henderson.

Yes, I would be VERY interested to read their comments!

  33. Their logic seems to me to be more against adoption than same-sex marriage. Many kids have unmarried parents or are raised by same-sex couples already.

  34. Stuart McDonald 1 Jan 2013, 3:33pm

    Catholic Thinking Tanks (again)

  35. The Catholic church needs to remove their political influences or be constrained by the government. The adoptive children they are speaking of have been abandoned and would appreciate anyone that would protect and raise them with love. Children could care less whether their parents are same-sex or opposite-sex as long as they get love and consideration.

  36. Bayne MacGregor 2 Jan 2013, 2:17am

Has no-one told them that divorced hetero parents sometimes remarry? SOMEONE SEND THEM A COPY OF THE BRADY BUNCH ON DVD STAT!
