Having won this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, Olympian Louis Smith says he wants his gay fans to remember that he “fancies women” in order to avoid an “uncomfortable situation.”

Earlier this month, the 23-year-old gymnast said taking part in the BBC celebrity dance showed had turned him into a “gay icon”.

The athlete, who is straight, claimed his stint on the show had given him a whole new legion of male fans and that he was happy to get topless for a gay magazine.

He said: “I’m not a shy guy when it comes to getting your kit off and taking pictures. I know I’m not fat and won’t look offensive, so it’s fine.”

Speaking to the Telegraph over the weekend, Smith added: “As long as gay people can see the line, and that I fancy women, that’s fine. I don’t want to be put in a difficult, uncomfortable situation.”
