This issue has nothing to do with free speech…this group is nother other than purely “hate speech”..It kind of makes u wonder why governments allow this group(I won’t refer to them as a church bc they’re not) to carry out these protest….Are the governments in agreement with this hateful group of hate mongers????

  2. In a civilised society these people wouldn’t be allowed to have Internet access. Moderate churches should stand up to them and tell the world they are perverting the teachings of Jesus about loving they neighbour. I say that and I’m a confirmed atheist.

You’re wrong. In a civilised society these people would be allowed to do exactly what they do, and this kind of community uprising against them is exactly what we want to see. This is how it’s supposed to work. The GHF church is doing nothing more than making a mockery of themselves, and the rest of the world is simply showing that they’re up for letting them do it.

I don’t agree with them, or what they’re doing, but I exult every time a community bands together to stop them using their own powers of free speech. Freedom works!

I have been majorly shouted down in the other thread about this issue. But I predicted a week ago(check back) that they would not mount these protests because they don’t have that much faith in their god.

My comments have been read as defending them, wrongly. Take this opportunity to go back and actually read what I wrote. Very carefully.

I was then called naive, for having an opinion. But who got it right? I think it is clear I understand them and what they are about more than a lot of the name callers and shouters in this forum. And so I repeat you are all playing right into their hands. They turned up and got the publicity they wanted, they didn’t need to picket the funerals.

Such is their hatred of the LGBT Community that it makes one seriously wonder whether one or two might well be hiding in the closet? Theirs is the typical sort of response from supressed homosexuals except in their case the reaction is very, very strong. I’m certain this is the real reason behind their vileness.

Fred’s the problem. The others are just conditioned by decades of abuse into doing as they’re told. A few of the Phelps family members have left the cult over the years and spilled the beans. It doesn’t make for happy reading.

Others have had counter demonstrations including the famous “angels” who dressed up as angels (on stilts with large white wings that totally blocked the visibility of the Phelps followers from either the families of the military casulties or of the press). Very effective.

There is nothing Christian about them. Whilst many who say they follow a religion founded on a principles of respect and charity fail to live up to the mark, the WBC actively preaches against the whole shebang. They are more Old Testament than New, only without the temperance, experience, compassion, and empathy that the past 3000 years have given Judaism.

  10. Maybe we should just feel sorry for the whole lot of them. They live in a world which is ruled by a fire and brimstone god who casts people willy-nilly into the fiery pit – a god who sends lunatics into primary schools with assault weapons. They do what they do because they are absolutely TERRIFIED of this “loving” patriarch in the sky. Every waking moment of their day must be ruled by fear. Very sad.

  12. I “love” how these people seem to think that saying their God hates gay people so much that he’s happy to massacre small children to show it is somehow going to get more people worshipping such a God. It says a lot that they believe in a God that rules by death, fear and hatred, rather than love. That’s a God that any right-minded person should want nothing to do with!

It is always a touchy subject when British and Americans discuss free speech. I understand the revulsion the British feel when they hear about groups like the WBC or the KKK being granted the same free speech rights as everyone else, we feel it too. But, we also know that if we give the government the ability to stop them from speaking, there’s a chance that one day we will be silenced as well.

The best thing to do with those people is to ignore them. They aren’t going away. And, while they have the right to speak, they don’t have the right to be heard.

  15. While they will preach the laws against homosexuality because of the old testament, the will cherry pick the verse for them.
Here is another thing about the bible god, who condemns homosexuality, but promotes raping little girls when destroying non belivers and raping ”women children” (in NUmbers 31:7-18). If they are referring to virgin females then it would also include preteen girls. If the westboro baptist church protest against homosexuality, then to counter it, we protest against against a book that supports child abuse and child rapists.

  17. It is utterly disgraceful that Pink News keeps promoting this Westboro cult which is made up of 1 family.

This cult is too small to be of any significance, and it is only because Pink News (among others) keeps giving them publicity that they get their message out.

The cult probably would not have picketed the funerals.

Why would they bother when Pink News promotes the fact that they were threatening to protest.

Is Pink News a homophobic news outlet?

    |Why else does it keep promoting this cult?

      1. The Westboro cult is 1 family and has about 60 members.

Pink News has published more stories about this family than are actually in the family.

The best way to deal with them is to ignore., Without publicity they are finished.

Clearly Pink News supports the existence of this cult. Otherwise they would not be promoting the cult so much.

Is Pink News homophobic? I certainly think Pink News needs to explain its relentless advertising for this extremist family

Perhaps the simplest thing would be to boycott them , refuse to have anything to do with their law firm tell yoour friends and colleagues why, refuse to sell them gas , refuse to let them into motel rooms. refuse them service in supermarkets . When they have to walk from Kansas to Kentucky in the pissing rain and eat rats on the way they might shut up

when they show up in middle tn .. a group comprised of different groups from the gblt community to motorcycle clubs to church groups make sure they dont get anywhere close to a funeral or memorial service .. what they want is the publicity ..
and the last time they showed up here only 3 came to protest a liberal church
and they left when they were outnumbered .. the supreme court in allowing them the right to protest has done a great disservice to the country
they are nothing more but a hate group
and one day they will suffer for their
    hate
