“The Republican is asking to protect the religious liberties of military personnel who don’t agree with homosexuality”

    …from WHAT exactly…?

    1. Getting their wardrobe fixed. Those trousers, THAT shirt? really?

    2. God knows. American military personnel sign away most of their rights when they join anyway so I don’t see the issue here.

    3. He wants them protected from prosecution if they beat someone up because he’s gay.

  2. What a moronic man he is!

  3. That There Other David 19 Dec 2012, 2:12pm

This is going nowhere. Let him try again if he wishes. He’s wasting his time and just proving how right his constituents were to ditch him.

  4. This man is insane.

  5. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Todd.

MIssouri doesn’t want you any more.

  6. Robert in S. Kensington 19 Dec 2012, 2:22pm

Not so far removed from those vile Tory bigots opposed to equal marriage. Just as insane and incredibly stupid and ingnorant. Religion is in the mix, let’s face it.

    1. Tory, Labour & Lib Dem I think you’ll find.

  7. PantoHorse 19 Dec 2012, 2:26pm

Firstly I find this bonkers on the grounds that why would people with ‘deeply held religious beliefs’ be serving in the military? Surely if there is one place most likely to convince one there is no god it’s the battlefield?

And secondly, just who is pushing him to do this? I bet it’s not anyone actually serving in the military.

As other posters have said, Missouri is done with you, Akin. Be gone!

  8. Run along now sweetie, you lost.

  9. Goodbye Mr Akin…you are the weakest link!!!

  10. And as my swansong I would like to oppose equality and civil rights.

  11. *McCaskill

  12. I’m sure we’ll see him in a tabloid caught with a rent boy. They’re always are, these extreme homophobes.

  13. Paul from Tacoma, WA 19 Dec 2012, 3:05pm

Gee wiz the Republicans are from another time and another planet!

What is wrong with these people?

Ultra Right-wing religious, money hungry, wine filled crack pots smoking way too much pot this year perhaps? They have all completely lost their marbles coming into Christmas!

Republicans are just the western version of the Taliban. Lost brain cells and lower IQs!

    1. Tell me about it, I live in Texas and we have way more than our share of these kind of idiots here.

  14. Jock S. Trap 19 Dec 2012, 3:08pm

Some of the worst in positions of power certainly know how to abuse , in all texts and meaning.

    Absolutely disgraceful.

  15. Paul from Tacoma, WA 19 Dec 2012, 3:10pm

He has a face of someone who just had sex with his sister!

The National Organisation for Marriage Bigotry (NOM) are looking for new members – he is a perfect candidate to spew his stupid, uneducated, hatred mindless dribble across America!

Allow gay marriage, ban bigots from marriage!

Do I get to vote on his marriage by any chance?

    1. “He has a face of someone who just had sex with his sister” That comment really has made me laugh out loud!

  16. Jim Nashville Tn 19 Dec 2012, 3:31pm

  18. Garry Cassell 19 Dec 2012, 3:40pm

Someone should take it upon themselves to lock this moron(Todd) away before he causes a major tradegy in the USA…Why do people put up with such stupid people like him? Why does anyone think he has something to offer to anyone? A moron who thinks the world can’t manage with him…Well, the whole world would be much better off with fools like him and the Religious Right..

    1. Garry Cassell 19 Dec 2012, 3:41pm

      Should read without him..

  19. Cancerous Bigot!

Once again, Pink News has screwed up the story.
Akin’s AMENDMENT to the House version of the Defense Appropriations bill will allow military chaplains to refuse to minister to LGBT soldiers, sailors and airmen on grounds of their religious objections to homosexuality. It ALSO forbids disciplining military personnel for harassment and/or abuse of LGBT military personnel on grounds of “objections to homosexuality based on sincerely held religious beliefs or conscience.” In effect allowing any U.S. soldier, sailor or airman to beat the living crap out of an LGBT soldier, sailor or airman and all they have to do is claim religious or conscience reasons and they get off with no real consequences. It is a bill that will destroy morale and unit cohesion, let alone destroy any chance of maintaining good discipline, respect or order within the ranks.
Second, Akin challenged Claire for HER Senate seat. He didn’t lose his seat to her, and he will be returning to the House of Representatives.

    1. bobbleobble 19 Dec 2012, 5:40pm

He won’t be returning to the House, he gave up his House seat to run for Senate. He’s currently still in the House until next January (3rd I think) when he’ll be replaced. And good riddance.

    2. point of information: todd akin will not be returning to the house of representatives. he had to give up his seat in the house to run for the senate.

    3. THIS IS NOT A DUPLICATE COMMENT: todd akin will NOT be returning to the house of represntatives as he had to give up his seat in the house to run for the senate.

    4. David Myers 20 Dec 2012, 1:02am

jake: He, unlike Rep. Ryan in Wisconsin (which allows one to run for President or Vice-President while also running for re-election to the House – due to the perculiar state laws of Wisconsin), could not run for Senate and run for re-election to the US House from Missouri, but he still is a House member until the end of the current House which will be when the new House is sworn in in January. So he is “still in the House” and has “returned to the current House” and still is a House member (until January). So he has already “returned to the House” during this session which is why he could still push this House resolution during this House’s (still on-going) session.

  21. looking at this makes me question is it worded in a way that will allow equally people to find heterosexuality inappropriate and thus their views would have to be protected under the bill as much as people holding the view homosexuality is wrong?

  22. Wasting his time. This will never go through. Clearly malicious.

  23. once again this homegrown american diva comes on stage. hopefully, it’s the final curtain. this man who is legitimately stupid is also frighteningly dangerous.

  24. ” [Akin] lost his seat to Democrat Claire McCakill in November’s US election. ”

Good riddance to blithering idiots like him. He lost the election, and also his ability to push forward idiotic legislation that supports discrimination.

    1. David Myers 20 Dec 2012, 1:08am

Again, as stated by others, Akin lost his race for the Senate seat in Missouri to the incumbent Claire McCaskill who won re-election. He is still a House member from Missouri in the currenUS House of Representatives which continues to be in session until the new House is sworn in in January. So he still can vote in the current House and propose amendments to current legislation, which is what he has done in this case.

  25. It was people like the cretinous Todd Akin who made the Republicans so unelectable and helped President Obama, leader of the progressive wing of American politics, to re-election. Ironically, Akin’s ignorance and stupidity have helped to keep the best party and the best president in power.

I was surpised to read that John McCain was supporting this appalling homophobic bill, given that his wife, Cindy McCain is a strong supporter of equal marriage.

They presumably have some moments of angry silence over the dinner table. I hope she makes him sleep on the sofa.

    1. Not only his wife but his daughter too, Meghan McCain. They both have posed for the NOH8 Campaign. Makes you wonder who really is the boss of the house.

  26. Good riddance, no wonder he was voted out.

  27. Why are these people so obsessed with homosexuality?

    1. That’s really the question – why are they so concerned with other people’s private lives to the point of making it their life’s career, along with playing victim when they’re right to harass and be a bigot is challenged.

  28. Please work on your accuracy. Akin lost to McCaskill (not McCakill), but it was McCaskill’s seat that was up in the election; Akin was not a US Senator. Akin is soon the former Representative in Missouri’s 2nd district, a seat soon to be occupied by Ann Wagner, a seat he did not “lose” because he did not run for reelection to the House of Representatives.

  29. This is the same guy who thinks a woman’s body has a natural defence against rape. He’s a complete moron.

  30. Clearly, he should be tried for treason and for fraud – impersonating a human being. What I’d really like to see for a Christmas special is Akin and his kind all kidnapped aboard the TARDIS and delivered to an angry past where they’d never survive or a future filled with equality and where they face their reality that, like dinosaurs, your change or you go extinct.
