There I was thinking it was a decent sentence (surprisingly so) until I reached the “run concurrently” part. Why? Why let him off the hook that way? The damage done to her life will probably take longer to heal. Unacceptable.
I am more than a little confused by the sentencing breakdown, by my calculations he has received 18.5 years in total.
However, the sentence is deserved but I wonder how long it will be before the bleeding hearts brigade start saying the sentence is too long and infringes his human rights.
I wish the victim well and that his imprisonment will help her on the road to recovery.
If he had been sentenced to serve the three sentences consecutively, then the 18.5 would have applied. Concurrent means he’s serving time for all three at the same time which means the longer sentence for the rape takes precedence. Yes, it’s unfair for crimes of this nature. If he’s a first time offender, probably the reason why his sentence was reduced to run concurrently. A prior crime history would have probably made him serve the full 18.5 years.
8 years? That doesn’t seem anything like enough for what sounds like a horrendous attack. Sickening to even think about so it must have been hell for her, and will affect her whole life.
I don’t get concurrent sentences at all. They should only be for trivial things. What’s the point of enumerating all this man’s offences then him not serving the full sentence given.

So he was a “chef” but not “Gay”. I presume he used this to lull her in to a false sense of security.
On the inside he may encounter men who claim to be his “Daddy”, but he should be weary of believing what they say. :(
