  1. With all respect, why even give this tiny moronic church the time of day and the attention it craves?
They have only 40 members, but are brilliant at garnering publicity, if people ignored their dross, they would soon shrivel up and die.

    1. barriejohn 16 Dec 2012, 1:44pm

      Really?

    2. Robert in S. Kensington 16 Dec 2012, 3:53pm

I’m surprised Stephen Green isn’t mouthing off, he’s just as bad as well as some of those loonies at the Christian Institute. Then there’s that other idiot Baroness Warsi.

    3. billywingargtenson 17 Dec 2012, 4:50am

it was for the WBC that I made a cross out of two dildoes.

Its most usefull when these creeps show up a schools with lots of young kids

They love it and its a great way to convince them that xtianity is the curse of western civilization

      1. While I know that attention is what they want, I can’t imagine standing back and just letting them picket these mourning families… I don’t think they will just stop even IF the attention/media were to stop publicizing them. People need to come together to drown out their chants and block their signs, so the families of the victims can mourn in peace…

    4. It is almost too vile for words that these people should have uttered a single word of this nature after such a tragedy. But then, it’s what we’ve come to expect. The American public must surely feel nothing but revulsion at these latest utterances? I do wonder how these people survive – both finacially and physically. I think they are living proof that god doesn’t exist, If he did, (a) he would not have allowed the Connecticut shooting to happen and (b) he would have stuck the WBC with a lightening bolt years ago for their sociopathic behaviour. If this is ‘loving christianty at work’, I thank god he made me an atheist.

      1. Sorry, this makes me so angry and frustrated that these creeps and the psychos of the NRA are allowed to walk free……
I don’t want any of these people to die, but I can’t help wondering if a wound of two from an angry man’s gun would show them what “beautiful work” it REALLY is……

  2. Eerily reminiscent of how the Jews were used as a scapegoat in Nazi Germany…

  3. What worries me most about the WBC is that organisations founded on such levels of fanatical hatred have a habit of developing beyond offensive placards and just being a general eyesore and nuisance to taking what they consider appropriate action to make their point. There are few people more dangerous that those doing the work of their god. I hope the US anti-terror services are keeping a very close eye on these people.

    1. “There are few people more dangerous that those doing the work of their god.”
      Very well put.

  4. Bet there wouldn’t be a tear shed if there was a drive-by shooting that took the whole hateful family out.
Then they’d see who god really hates. (unfortunately they wouldn’t as there’s no such thing)

    1. A drive-by would not be the answer, as much as I dislike the wbc, they do take children with them to picket. And if you did a drive-by those children would get hurt. But the wbc should not be allowed near the school. If they do show up, I hope they get moved on vilified in the media.

      1. They have picketed outside schools before, but as long as they aren’t directly on the property then nothing is or can be done :/

    2. I’m willing to bet they won’t turn up but are just threatening to to get publicity. I think even they would fear for their safety if they went to a town where 20 children had been shot. I don’t think they actually have that much faith in their god that they would get out alive.

Let’s watch this space and see. For the families affected I hope I am right.

  5. Robert (Kettering) 16 Dec 2012, 11:50am

Perhaps some of our own home grown religious bigots would like to join this bunch of fruit cakes in protesting.

It really does show up how all the anti Gay stuff spouted by religous groups is more about hatred and homophobia than religion.

    1. You quite right. For myself the sorring thing is as a Christian I’m fed up witn those morrons who use God for making their agenda go a head. It is utterly disgusting God has created gay with love as he has created all his creation.

  6. Don’t give them oxygen.

    1. If you mean brick them up in a dark, airless room…..

  7. It saddens me that people can really think that this is the right way to view the world. I think that it is right for us to focus on the support we should give to the family and friends of those affected by the killings – and not on the bizarre views of a tiny minority.

  8. you have got to be kidding! The man puts bullets in the gun, points and shoots the innocent, but it is my fault because I am a Lesbian…

    1. No it’s your fault because you want rights.

      1. That was not meant to be serious.

    2. Yup. Correct. At least, in the minds of these brain-washed imbeciles. But, you see, the more of this kind of thing they do, the faster ALL religion will be discredited and rejected as the preserve of cranks. For me, that can’t come soon enough. God works in mysterious ways …..

  9. Jock S. Trap 16 Dec 2012, 12:09pm

All I can say is they are very Sick people! Of course all they’re interested in is media attention.

This is going to be difficult enough for those family to bury their own without this kind of vicious protest.

It’s completely immoral and they are completely disgusting people!

    1. Gene in L.A. 16 Dec 2012, 9:04pm

Exactly right. It’s a shame Pink News gave them this much of a forum to air their ill-based Biblical hatred.

  10. Keith Farrell 16 Dec 2012, 12:11pm

What a sick group of people. why do they always insist on blaming gays for all that happens. If us gay people were really so powerful that we copuld control nature, then I am sure we would have made it impossible for any member of this church to have any children. They are so evil.
I thought there had been some new laws made in the USA against this sort of hate

  11. gino meriano 16 Dec 2012, 12:13pm

why even bother to cover the story, they always blame us or others for deaths and its well known they do this aroundthe globe…….so why even enduldge them by helping them promote their cause…..

    They seek coverage, is all

    1. I think it’s essential to cover what they say. If I was a conspiracy theorist, I might even suspect that these nut-jobs were being funded by the gay mafia, so damaging are they to right-wing christian fundamentalism. Even the most conservative supporters of organised religion must cringe when the WBC spew forth their bile. Hey! But that’s the good old USA for you and their determination to uphold the citizens right to free-speech and freedonm of religion. I do wonder what the reaction to these imbeciles would be if they were ranting on and on about race issues …..

  12. Even though I am totally shocked and disgusted by their (apparent) intention to picket these particular funerals, I hope that if they do, that the rest of America sees them for the filth that they are and FINALLY sticks the term ‘FREE SPEECH’ up their collective arses! HATE speech can NEVER be tolerated!!

    1. Ordinarily I would agree. But this is the funerals of 6 and 7 year old children. Their parents have enough to deal with.

      1. BUT – if they really ARE intent on doing this, then they won’t be prevented from doing so, they never are due to America’s constitution. So all I am saying is, deplorable as this action would be, if they DO do it, let ALL of America, and the world, see them for what they are and finally DO something about this! The fact that they incite their own children into this type of action is CHILD ABUSE and something should be done to protect them! Perhaps, if they carry out their threat of ‘action’ something finally will be…

    2. Americans HATE WBC. Believe me, I’ve never met anyone here that agrees with them.

      1. That’s why, Cameron, it is essential to the cause of equality for all, that news media report their vile rantings. Freedom of Speech can work as a force for good in ways that might not at first be obvious ……

  13. This isn’t really news.

  14. If there is a God I doubt these sickos will get to meet Him .I’m sure when their time comes their elevator will be going down not up

  15. This is not a church. It is a very unpleasant sect made up mostly of an extended family.

  16. When one of the Westboro clan is involved in ‘an accident’, let us see what happens…………….

    1. Apparently they are highly litigious, so you’d have to be bloody careful if you tried anything.

  17. For once, words bloody fail me!

  18. It is their hate that incites more hate. Someone should point this out and picket their “praying” meetings.

    1. Considering Phelps is someone who openly invites the entire world to dance on his grave when he dies…yeah, he’s too mentally ill to be affected by counterprotests. On the contrary, he thrives and glees on the backlash. He’s probably the best documented example of trolling.

  19. Bill Schatzabel 16 Dec 2012, 2:08pm

Please believe me when I say that not all Americans are total asses and hate mongers. It’s disturbing that they would use children to hold up their hate signs.

    1. I suppose that people have so learned to ignore them that the only way the WBC can get any kind of attention is by ramping up their offensive behaviour. On this basis I dare say we can look forward to the day when will be able to enjoy the sight of the ‘Reverend’ Phelps screwing his dead mother’s corpse while ripping the throat out of a new born baby ….Best to be prepared and just ignore them whatever they do…

    2. David Myers 18 Dec 2012, 2:39am

Talk about perversion of the innocent!

  20. Kathryn Howie 16 Dec 2012, 2:33pm

Malicious stalking harrassment that this group of deranged fools carries out is not free speech – the USA is the only country where they would not be arrested for aggrivated harrassment.

  21. Ever wondered how the WBC gets its money? They are all lawyers. They use the 5th Amendment to get away with saying anything they like, no matter how obnoxious and offensive. If anyone retaliates against them because of what they say the members of the WBC sue. And they always win. That’s why they say such evil, stupid, offensive things. They want you to retaliate. It’s how they make their money.

  22. They seem to have no fear. Picketing the funerals of dead servicemen is dangerous enough but this….. I can see swift and brutal reprisals. Their law degrees won’t help them then!

    1. One can only hope, Cal. I’d like nothing better than to hear that someone finally got pushed to far and put a bullet or two in Shirley or Fred…not that Fred would be out at one of these pickets, anyway, since he can’t risk his old ass doing something like this. That’s why he sends his grand-kids.

  23. Why do decent Americans not exercise the same first amendment freedom to assemble, protest, etc. outside the WBA so-called church? Surely there are enough right-thinking people to keep it up 24/7 until it drives them even more bananas than they are now?

    1. Just realised that WBA are West Bromwich Albion. I meant WBC, of course! I have felt a little sick ever since the news broke the other night, and hearing this disgusting reaction from the Phelps gang makes me wonder why there isn’t a lunatic with a gun who would go to THEIR place. I would be sorry for the deaths of the poor brainwashed kids, and maybe a bit guilty for wishing it upon them, but much less sick. I know its an irrational and not particularly good reaction, but it’s the best I can do.

      1. I wonder the same thing…but people do counter protest the WBC here. People form human walls around them and sing to prevent grieving families from having to see them at funerals.

    2. there was a line of people who blocked the wbc from sight of family and people attending. Hopefully in this situation they do the same.

      1. There is an organisation of bikers called the ‘Freedom Riders’ who attend military funerals and block those b*******rds as well as respecting the dead.

        1. As an ex-biker, I would respect and fear any such opposition! Bikers are generally decent people, but with low tolerance for those like the WBC!

  24. That they’re even thinking of accrueing capital by piggybacking themselves onto such an awful tragedy in order to advertise their deranged brand of hate makes them sick people in the extreme.

  25. How do these morons afford to travel all over to protest? Who’s funding this hate?

  26. Aussie Gay Activist Paul Mitchell 16 Dec 2012, 3:12pm

I have only just heard about what happened in CT. our hearts should go to the victims of this horrible gun tragedy and we need to really look and learn about the tree gun incidents that have happened in the US so far (other other two in WI and CO) and it is way to easy to gain access and/or entry to guns or firearms in the US. The US as a nation needs to take a good hard look at itself, have political bipardenship on this controversial gun issue and just reflect upon in 2012, just before Christmas. I am shocked and saddened that someone can do that to 20 innocent little children!

Abortion, guns, gay marriage and gambling are controversial subjects that really deeply divide America and can cause political hate, anger, frustration, acts of terror and violence!

United States of America – more like the deeply Divided States of America!

  27. SHAME ON YOU EVIL PEOPLE. Why isnt CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES STEPPING IN TO PROTECT THESE POOR BABIES FROM THESE HATE MONGERS? These are the children that will grow up to become elementary school shooters! Taught to HATE, instead of Gods Love ,HOW ABOUT TEACHING THEM VALUES, MORALS, COMPASSION FOR OTHERS, BEING NON!!! JUDGEMENTAL!! LEAD BY BEING A GOOD EXAMPLE! You who are leading these babies away from God,and Love, will answer to HIM one day!

    1. Lynda Yilmaz 16 Dec 2012, 4:59pm

Actually Shawnia you made a really good point. I hadn’t thought about it like this before. I’m thinking in the UK, this would be a criminal act. Words and behaviour inciting hatred. Given that the adults would be prosecuted for this, the children would automatically (I think) come under the scrutiny of Social Services. A good lawyer could make a case of abuse out of this because they are educating their children in such a way as to marginalise them from the rest of society. Hmmm…..any imaginative DA’s in Connecticut out there?

  28. Anyone have any idea who to contact about this child abuse? And why hasnt this drastic child abuse already been adressed? These are the nuts that are raising our Nations NEXT Elementary school Shooters. When will we stop worrying about political correctness, freedom of speech to babble hate, and start getting back some COMMON SENSE and protect these children from these NUT JOBS!

  29. This westboro inbred family church is going to end in tears. I can just feel it. Waco all over again.

    1. I hope they hurry up.

  30. I love ‘em. Far more transgressive than most of the tattooed & pierced ninnies who claim that label these days. Certainly more entertaining than Gaga.

    1. They’re not entertaining in this situation.

  31. I love the Prayer of St. Francis.

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
    Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
    where there is injury, pardon;

    where there is doubt, faith;
    where there is despair, hope;
    where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
    to be consoled as to console;
    to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
    For it is in giving that we receive;
    it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life

    1. I’m sure you mean well but please spare us the God-bothering. Why did YOUR god allow those children to be slaughtered, the families destroyed and all the survivors scarred for life? If He never intervenes then what is the point of prayer?

    2. I’m having a lot of trouble even conceding the existence of a ‘loving god’ who allowed the slaughter of these innocents in Newtown and does not even chastise the WBC for their evil deeds.

      1. There is no God, of course. My challenge is motto “Him” but to blind faith.

  32. Unfortunately, these people think they have the right to speak because of Amendment 1. What they do not realize is that just because they have something to say, does not mean that it is worth listening to. G-d created everyone with the same love and respect and honestly; who are we to judge love? What if one of their members came out of the closet? Would they stone them? Shoot them? Nail them to a cross? What if one of them was sent to Iran or Iraq and came back dead? Would they protest the soldier’s funeral and blame on the “anomalies?” It is people like these that have made me loose faith in humanity; the people that have no respect for others, especially at a time when children (not adults, innocent little children that haven’t even lived their lives) were killed and are being protested because of “the gays.” These people are a disgusting work that are hungry for the attention of the media. Do not give them the time of day, they are sinners who should be put in their place.

  33. These people are really the lowest of the lowest scumbags…this is just staggering even for them!

    1. They’ve done worse. Once they thanked “God” for the child sex trade because they reasoned it’s better than a child becoming gay. They’ll do anything to get their coveted media coverage – just ignore them.

  34. ““Westboro will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment.”

That has to be one of the most disgusting and utterly chilling things I’ve read for a long time. Glorying in the murder of little children? The word ‘despicable’ doesn’t even begin to cover it.

And why on earth haven’t their children been taken into Care? How disturbed are they going to be growing up in that atmosphere of hate? What are they thinking as they see their parents and adult relatives rejoicing in the death of schoolchildren like them?

    1. It would be a different story if one of their children had been a victim of this outrageous crime. So many innocent young lives taken. Why does the USA have such lax laws on weapons?

      1. ” Why does the USA have such lax laws on weapons?” Because they are moronic god-botherers who think they live in the greatest country in the world. Either that or most of the men have small penises so they need to compensate.

  35. Robert in S, Kensington. Please give Stephen Green his full title whenever mentioned. Wife-beater Stephen Green!

  36. I wonder if they watch those nature programs on tv where the hunter animal attacks its prey (for food) and blame that on gays too.

I suspect this Church is out to make money by using hatred as fuel.

  37. GingerlyColors 16 Dec 2012, 4:21pm

Will those Westboro Baptist sickos dare to picket the funerals of the children who died in the massacre? I would love to see them try as they will get what is coming to them!

  38. I can understand the so called american “freedom of speech” but I can’t accept innocent kids being forced by their mentally ill parents to stand with such signs!

  39. Garry Cassell 16 Dec 2012, 4:32pm

Why does anyone refer to this incestoural group as a church….???It’s a hateful family with nothing better to do and as long as they get this media space free they will continue to be this menace on society…They will use guns soon if they are not STOPPED…Who will take responsibility for the harm they will cause? Such hatred towards others will only end when forced to stop their tactics…We cannot just stand by and pretend there is no harm to this type of behaviour…Are we waiting for another magor event???

  40. Krystal Brookes 16 Dec 2012, 4:32pm

Why even give this article room in your paper. Everyone in the world knows that they have some kind of weird fascination with blaming gay people for all the ills of the world. you didn’t expect a heartfelt comment about how tragic it was, did you. Stop publicizing these moronic bigots. The more you talk about them, the more they think they’ll have won. The best thing to do with idiots is ignore them.

  41. Psychiatry killed the children in Newtown school, the shooter was seeing a psychotherapist who put him on psychotropic drugs that make people into killers.

    1. That’s speculation. We don’t yet know enough to say what made him do it.

      1. Ben Foster 16 Dec 2012, 6:51pm

If he has left any notes anywhere saying that ‘God made him do it’ I think I might just explode!

  42. Celine Simpson 16 Dec 2012, 5:24pm

Just more bullshit theories to help a psycho escape blame for causing tragedy and grief.

  43. Robert Brown 16 Dec 2012, 5:27pm

They may have only ’40’ visible members, yet there are a lot more who are supporting them out of sight . . .

    http://www.rainbow-citizen.com

  44. The WBC pickets at every possible opportunity where there is a tragic disaster or loss of life, thanking “God” for it. They’re enormous attention-whores, who keep raising the stakes whenever they risk losing the media’s coverage. Ignore them entirely.

  45. Seems the UK has gotten it right. USA…when will you see the light and ban this type of ; “free speech” you call it? this isn’t free speech, its hate mongering and you allow it.

  46. I don’t understand… why isn’t anyone saying “The Westboro Baptist Church is responsible for all of the violence and hatred we are seeing in the world right now”?

If more people SAID it, and more news outlets REPEATED it, it would actually start reflecting the TRUTH. These people are vile, hateful, disgusting, sorry excuses for humans. They have no right to call themselves a “church”. They are an inbred family cult.

People should be picketing their homes and church with “God hates fascists” signs.

  47. I agree that this hateful group deserves no more press. Take steps to keep them from destroying the sanctity of these children’s funerals, throw their ugly behinds in jail for any and all infractions of the law they incur, and forget about them.

  48. Voltair said I MAY NOT AGREE WITH WHAT YOU SAY BUT I WILL FIGHT TO THE DEATH FOR YOUR RIGHT TO SAY IT
I try to live by that this lot make it reallllllllllllllllly hardddddddddddddd

    1. Voltaire was wrong.

  49. Ben Foster 16 Dec 2012, 6:57pm

This whole thing makes me sick to my stomach. I don’t think I want to see any more. But could any American on these boards explain why it isn’t possible under US law for the grieving parents at these funerals to get an injunction banning the Phelpses from coming near them? Wouldn’t that override the First Amendment?

  50. Can someone please shoot them? It’s not like they’d be missed.

  51. Musicmaker 60 16 Dec 2012, 7:14pm

I am sick and tired of idiots like these misrepresenting my God. What they are doing is the most Unchristian thing I have ever heard of. The media needs to start referring to them as a cult, because this morning every CHRISTIAN church in America was praying for the victims and their families, not rejoicing and planning protests. If all they want is attention, we need to quit giving it to them – and the police need to be sure to keep them far, far away from any of the funerals or memorial events.

  52. This “church” exploits the most tragic moments in peoples lives to spout out their horrible message of hate. It saddens me that the Supreme Court has allowed this behavior to continue because it would violate their First Amendment rights. What about the rights of the victims and their families??? Sick sick sick…how these people can even live with themselves is a shock to me!

  53. If ‘God’ wanted to punish gay people….he would just kill them! DUH!! OMG stupid people

  54. Funny, isn’t it? How disgusted you were when you first heard about the shooting… then you read this story, about what these people intend to do at those kid’s funerals… and, suddenly, all you want is to slay them before they get the chance.

  55. Shame on you all that behave like this especially those comments when parents and families have lost there precious children and teachers!!! That is not what a respectfully person who do or protest-you all are ignorant and self-centered nuts!!!!!!

  56. People should picket outside all Westboro baptist church events and secondly figure out the names of these morons and picket outside their homes night and day so their children see how stupid their parents are.

  57. I said this on the other post but I find the WBC funny. They just go so beyond the absurd and it kind of takes some balls to offend basically everyone. I mean they have no supporters outside their little freak show church. Seriously though, theyre atttention whores and they need to stop being reported on.

    1. Me too. This latest stunt is truly sick but the holier than thou response of everybody pointing out this all too obvious fact is an eye opener – not to mention all the sincere calls to kill them! Like we are so much better when it’s the ‘right’ people who are hated. Maybe there’s some truth in their preaching – that all humans deserve hell. It just takes the right prompt to bring out the hate in all of us.

  58. So glad I don’t live in America

  59. Please You are not God, so stop saying that God wanted hurricane Sandy, i think hurricane Sandy killed not gay people. God wants peace on earth, everyone has the write to live like he wants as long as he is not hurting others. Please No one is God, so do not say that God is doing this or God is doing that… I think God knows well what he is doing since million of years and not our thinking will limit God or know what God is doing

    1. This could ALL be solved overnight if someone insisted that God tells us HIMSELF, IN PERSON, what it is he wants from ‘His children ‘instead of leaving it up to weird nut-jobs to pass on his messages. Why doesn’t he just pop down .. or send a postcard … or (if he’s techno-savy, a text) or turn up in court and, under his own oath TELL US WHAT THE F**K HE WANTS!? Strange how, throughout all the wars, famines, natural disasters, man-made disasters … he’s never ONCE put in an appearance, instead relying on the WBC to be his spokespersons. Personally, I think he should review their contract of employment because, in business terms, they’re having a highly damaging efect on His brand image.

  60. That’s right little man…God Hates no one!  So proud of you, and your Mom for bringing you up right; to love and respect  all regardless if your beliefs are the same or something different. Good job buddy!!

  61. billywingargtenson 17 Dec 2012, 4:49am

it was for them that I made a cross out of two dildoes.

Its most usefull when these creeps show up a schools with lots of young kids

They love it and its a great way to convince them that xtianity is the curse of western civilization

  62. If the world was fair, an armed sicko bent on killing the first people he would meet would surely run into the deranged Westboro Craptist Church nuts and “rapture” them away! But of course the world isn’t fair, is it?

  63. That There Other David 17 Dec 2012, 11:24am

One thing I honestly can’t understand. With all the gun toting mental cases in the USA why is it that children get murdered in a school whilst the members of WBC are still breathing?

Is it that all the gun toting mental cases secretly agree with them?

    1. I think the vile campaign waged by the WBC is driven much more by closet homosexuality. Psychologists would tell you that for anyone to have this extreme reaction indicates some deep-seated issue self-loathing. Could it be that among the membership there are those IN TURMOIL and CONFLICT with themselves over their sexuality and extreme religious brainwashing they’ve endured? I hope they demonstrate themselves into oblivion.

  64. I’m with Lee Rand. We know their messages are full of hate. Now let’s ignore them and stop giving them the attention they crave. They planned to picket Newton after the Sandy Hook shootings, for crying out loud — how much more disrespectful, hateful, and attention starved could they be?? I propose that we fill spaces that would otherwise be used to relay news about this horrible organisation with more news of gay and queer allies. Let’s promote that and not hate.

  65. Jim Nashville Tn 17 Dec 2012, 7:51pm

“In 2009, the British Government placed a ban on members of the church entering the UK due to their attitude to homosexuality”
one of the greatest things that the British government has ever done .. the killings in Conn have saddened me and hurt my heart then to see this ..I thought it couldnt get any worst for the families and the community in Conn . now we have this bunch of idiots to put up with . here in middle tn as soon as they announce they are showing up a group forms to keep them away from the funerals . its a mixed group of veterans, gblt, bikers etc… ..I do hope the same happens in Conn .. but where is a link to the petition .. also its strange not a word about it in the news in the USA but thanks to pink news
I can look for the petition GOD hates hate … Bette Midler sang it best
    “God is watching us
    God is watching us
    God is watching us
    From a distance”
and he is pissed at westboro

  66. Staircase2 17 Dec 2012, 9:55pm

Their ungodly fcvked up bollocks really knows no bounds

‘Evil’ ‘twisted’ and ‘deluded’ are three words that spring to mind…oh yeah and ‘ungodly’ – did I say that already..?

(…so true he said it twice…)

  67. radioredrafts 18 Dec 2012, 3:39am

Apparently God hasn’t talked to them in a while. ^~

  68. Paul Schoenmann 18 Dec 2012, 3:42am
