  1. If anything is a threat to justice and peace, it is the Catholic Church and its teachings.

    1. I would question that it is a proven fact rather than just a threat.

Through the centuries and right to this day we know the Catholic clergy have evaded justice throughout the world.

      1. Jock S. Trap 15 Dec 2012, 9:26am

… and will continue to evade until man, woman and child finally sees it for the true Evils of this world!

        1. Truth About Catholicism 17 Dec 2012, 1:06pm

…Evidence suggests that the catholic church was behind the holocaust…supporting both the catholic Hitler and the catholic Mussolini…the Vatican refuses to release the documents and correspondence between the then pope and Hitler in the 30’s and 40’s…it is no coincidence that the current pope was once a fully signed up member of the Nazi Youth.

    2. Jock S. Trap 15 Dec 2012, 9:25am

Indeed… or indeed most religions who use such homophobia and justify it by using religious texts and their ‘God’ as an excuse.

Homophobia is a nasty trait of the person(s) using it. It is the fault of the individual Not anything else they can use to blame it on.

    3. Matt, I agree – the Catholic church is a homosexual’s worst nightmare (unless you’re clergy). Jesus never said ONE WORD about homosexuality. And people should bear in mind that a soul has NO GENDER.

  2. douglas in canada 14 Dec 2012, 7:10pm

    Preach – hetero marriage.
    Practise – celibacy

    Pretty useless role models

    1. Paula Thiomas 14 Dec 2012, 7:29pm

What makes you think they actually practice celibacy?? Several people would provide evidence against that.

      1. Wikipedia has a fantastic article entitled “List of sexually active popes”. Apparently Sixtus IV (the Pope from 1471-1484) is rumoured to have given gifts to men in his court in return for sexual favours, and ‘Giovanni Sclafenato was created a cardinal by Sixtus IV for “ingenuousness, loyalty,…and his other gifts of soul and body”, according to the papal epitaph on his tomb.’ Sixtus’s predecessor Paul II is thought to have died of a heart attack while having sex with a man.

      2. Robert in S. Kensington 14 Dec 2012, 7:44pm

I was hit on by several catholic priests in my youth as an altar boy and I know of some who had affairs with women, some of them married women. Nothing new, it’s been going on for almost 2 millenia. Society thinks that the recent paedophilia scandal is new. It isn’t, as old as the church itself. It’s rotten to the core.

        1. And the pope is the maggot writhing in the rotting corpse, feeding off the filth…………………..

Sorry, I got a bit carried away there………………

Actually, no, I think that was spot on.

  3. “Peace” off to you too , Mr Pope..

  4. Robert (Kettering) 14 Dec 2012, 7:37pm

There you have it the true face of evil.

This has to be one of the most nasty, vindictive popes of all times.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 14 Dec 2012, 7:41pm

      Unquestionably!

      1. That There Other David 14 Dec 2012, 9:30pm

Don’t you believe it. The vast majority have been in Ratzinger’s mould. Nasty, selfish, cruel and hypocritical to the max.

        1. Some of them had the excuse of living in an I enlightened age. This one, however, is just stubbornly vindictive and inhumane. Sieg Heil!!

          1. Should read ‘unenlightened’

  5. Robert in S. Kensington 14 Dec 2012, 7:39pm

What would a pope know about morality, any catholic priest for that matter, let alone relationships? His church is utterly bankrupt in the morals department given it’s criminal track record and support of repressive regimes such as Uganda by welcoming a politician who supports the killing of gay people. His church didn’t exactly stand up against Hitler did it? This man represents nothing more than evil.

    1. ...Paddyswurds 14 Dec 2012, 8:04pm

Ratzinger was actually a member of the Hitler youth so his hatred and evil is ingrained….that plus the fact he is a perpetually whining German….

      1. Also, an ex member of the Hilter youth, who now wears a dress.

      2. It is unfair to use Ratzinger’s membership of the Hitler Youth against him. Membership was pretty much mandatory for people of his age in Germany at the time.

Also, we don’t exactly need to scrape the bottom of the barrel for excuses to condemn him: there’s an embarrassment of riches when it comes to anti-human nastiness in his name. Lets focus on the substance.

        1. You are wrong. Some people who were in the Hitler Youth have spent a lifetime trying to atone. This one? He’s still in it.

        2. ...Paddyswurds 15 Dec 2012, 12:12am

There were over 300 kids at the school Ratzinger went to. Only ten boys joined the HY two of them being Ratzinger and his paedo brother. The previous pope managed to stay clear of the Hitler Youth in his native Poland and even managed to be an actor during the war. Ratzinger was born evil and is still evil. If I weren’t an atheist I would say he is the epitome of evil and surely the antichrist…what ever that is? I don’t think he will be around for very much longer any way sobe patient.

        3. Jock S. Trap 15 Dec 2012, 9:31am

Sorry but the fact the Catholic Church thought that a member of the Hitler Youth was perfect for Pope considering how the Vatican stood during the Second World War, was a disgusting decision. He has all the values of the N@zis and uses it to feed the masses with his hatred he learnt.

  6. Dave North 14 Dec 2012, 7:41pm

He just cant stop himself, can he.

F off you poisonous old nazi toad.

  7. The pope’s (I am deliberately using a lower-case P) behavior is beyond shocking.

All the words he uses merely invite violence against homosexual people around the world.
His idea of “Peace” is offensive.

Real peace would require the pope (the title, not just it’s present day holder) hauled before a court charged with hate crimes.

    1. He should be hauled before a court because of his complicity in covering up the systematic rape and torture of children by Catholic clergy.

    2. Shame on the British Government who changed the law when Ratzinger was due to visit the UK so that concerned citizens could not make a citizens arrest on the basis of him being an accomplice to the pedophile activities of his church

    3. Jock S. Trap 15 Dec 2012, 9:35am

Indeed this is an attack on World Peace… the man and the vatican should be ashamed of themselves.

  8. ...Paddyswurds 14 Dec 2012, 8:00pm

A bit for the Naz1 head of the worlds biggest paedophile ring to be talking of peace or Justice. When is Ratzi the Naz1 going to show justice for the thousands of men and women raped by the clerics of his church over the last 1800 years and in particular the last fifty years. Joe Ratzinger was particularly active in protecting these criminals during the Papacy of Karol Wojtyła. These people have absolutely no shame otherwise they would be hiding behind the walls of Vatican City until they must face Karma….

  9. It’s fantastic that The Internet provides a platform for the idiocy, bigotry and small minded hatred of organised religion to be displayed to the world.

    1. ...Paddyswurds 15 Dec 2012, 12:21am

  10. Wow.

The sheer inappropriateness of preaching hate on World Peace Day.

    Unbelievable.

  11. just hope I die before the two of them _I’ll turn hell into a gay disco circa 1970 put extra coals on the fire and sharpen my pointy spear but what do you expect from someone out of the hitler youth ?

  12. as a recovering catholic “give us your money , we will tell you how to vote/eat/think” sort of lost its shine when I was 14 and I watched the tall…….blond………steel-blue eyed Dux walk past , its about time this outdated practice was taxed into oblivion

  13. Pope Miss Marple strikes again!

  14. I find it impossible to talk about this man without sounding like a particularly unpleasant Rangers fan.

He is an objectively evil person and I can’t wait until he croaks.

  15. Ratzinger is a total dirt-box, he’s already going to Hell.

  16. Ratzi the Nazi strikes again!

  17. Marcwebbo3 14 Dec 2012, 9:33pm

The vatican will always make sure that whoever they make Pope holds the view regarding gay people as they do and sadly I cant see that changing….well not in my lifetime at least….bunch of perverted hypocrites

    1. True enough. The church’s animus goes back to its founding, to John Chrysostom and Thomas Aquinas. Chrysostom was the first (4th century) to equate the homosexuals of his day with murderers: “The murderer dissevers the soul from the body, but (the sodomite) ruins the soul with the body…For I should not only say thou has become a woman, but that thou hast lost thy manhood.” They have a vested interest in shaming LGBTs. To acknowledge that it’s possible for someone to be openly gay and happy/contented would require them to abandon their centuries-old dictum. Think about it: how long did it take the church to admit that Galileo was right (1992!)?

  18. Matthew Leeper 14 Dec 2012, 9:38pm

Did everyone forget this prick pope is ex hitler youth somethings never change huh

  19. “Catholic baiting is the anti-Semitism of the liberals.”

    1. That There Other David 14 Dec 2012, 11:05pm

Nobody is hating on Catholics. They’re the real victims of the fraud and abuse the Vatican and its agents have been inflicting for centuries. Child abuse and financial corruption are just the tip of the iceberg.

This Pope is a nasty piece of work, and he has surrounded himself by nasty pieces of work. I’m genuinely sorry you can’t see that. I guess your conditioning goes too deep.

  20. “There is also a need to acknowledge and promote the natural structure of marriage as the union of a man and a woman in the face of attempts to make it juridically equivalent to radically different types of union; such attempts actually harm and help to destabilize marriage, obscuring its specific nature and its indispensable role in society.
“These principles are not truths of faith, nor are they simply a corollary of the right to religious freedom. They are inscribed in human nature itself, accessible to reason and thus common to all humanity. The Church’s efforts to promote them are not therefore confessional in character, but addressed to all people, whatever their religious affiliation. Efforts of this kind are all the more necessary the more these principles are denied or misunderstood, since this constitutes an offence against the truth of the human person, with serious harm to justice and peace.”
Please read what he says instead of screaming headlines and words like ‘attack’ ..

    1. Phuk off, you naff qunt!

    2. How does the promotion and concealment of sexual attacks on defenseless and innocent children by Catholics priests fit into that so-called philosophy???
      Mind-blowing hypocrisy!

  21. Acknowledging the vile diarrhea that spews from that old man –

Hetros haven’t exactly regarded marriage as he thinks they should – have they – 50% divorce – nuff said

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 15 Dec 2012, 2:36pm

That’s been going long before equal marriage was a reality and will continue to do so and so will serial hetero adultery and philandery, uniquely their man-made invention.

    1. ...Paddyswurds 15 Dec 2012, 12:31am

    2. Pavlos Prince of Greece 15 Dec 2012, 3:57am

Please, read you self at first very good comentares under this ‘intelectual article’ from ‘hombre 111′. Wow, how incredible fresh and interesting minds, I am right? Enjoy, darling! And if you still are hungry, well, then maybe read Susan Sontag. Or simple come to the next gay bar, you know….

    3. Ray, if articles like that keep your conscience clear then good for you. It’s simplistic nonsense based on uninformed opinion. Are you actually saying that Gays are just “imagining” hatred towards them. Try reading some material other than your comfort-zone Christian pulp.
      Pax Vobiscum!

      1. John Jones 15 Dec 2012, 7:44pm

‘Vobiscum’ is plural. If you meant it, then it might be best to write ‘tecum’ or ‘tibi’.

    4. Ray, same old drivel. The cause of homosexuality may be many things but it most certainly NOT a distant father. I stopped reading after that.

Ill informed nonsense. Get an education. Read real scientific papers. become a real Christian, not a broken record, end, essay repeating a bunch of lies. You are the victim here not us. A victim of the lies of the catholic church. They can’t admit they got it all wrong on human sexuality or the house of cards would collapse. Instead they would rather see millions die of Aids than endorse condoms, indeed they actually lied about the virus and condoms. The church lies often and lies about LBGT issues most often.

Tell us exactly how my future marriage will bring down the concepts of peace and justice. Ridiculous hyperbole.

  22. Keith Farrell 14 Dec 2012, 11:17pm

I think it is time we forced our goverments to stop giving financial aid to the Catholic chrurch, aid in the form of no tax, property tax, business tax, and all the other loophole the church uses, they are not a charity, they are big business

  23. Ignore the old relic. Desmond Tutu is where real Christians go.

    1. That There Other David 14 Dec 2012, 11:40pm

Desmond Tutu is worth a thousand Ratzingers.

      1. I think it’s spelt ‘Natzinger’

  24. Fuck off, you fucked up closet case cunt!

  25. This is proof he is not a real religious leader of peace and love, like Jesus was.

  26. PeterinSydney 15 Dec 2012, 3:42am

Benedict is the most vicious anti-gay person in the world, as bad as those in the Uganda Government. In fact the other day he received at the Vatican that horrible woman from Uganda with the kill the gays legislation. The sooner God takes B 16, the better it will be for all gay people.

I wonder how he justifies his “Peace” message with the effect it will have on Catholic Youth who are gay and because of him become depressed and suicidal. What a Christian man he is !!!! I don’t think.

  27. Pavlos Prince of Greece 15 Dec 2012, 3:45am

War in the name of peace… Its the most dangerous form of hate, I think. How good, that his days are already counted! And he know this.

  28. PeterinSydney 15 Dec 2012, 3:48am

So much for the love of Jesus! What a nasty old foggy!!!

  29. It is YOU Benedict…you evil old old man who single-handedly is a threat to justice and peace for millions of LGBTQ people all around the world! You have blood on your hands you filthy German kaiser! I will celebrate the day you kick the bucket! You will soon…in a few years! Break a hip or two on the way out!

  30. petestuppence 15 Dec 2012, 9:01am

To be expected from that homophobic paedophile protecting nazi!

  31. You can send a tweet to the Pope asking why he did not condemn Uganda’s Kill the Gays bill when he had Rebecca Kadoga, Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament in front of him. Demand that he do it now to @pontifex

  32. Jock S. Trap 15 Dec 2012, 9:23am

    What a bloody hypocrite.

Peace means nothing to the man, nor religion.

To use marriage Equality, a Stabling factor to society, as a means to provoke harm in the world, is appalling.

To use as an attack on the LGBT community on the World Day of Peace is disgusting.

And lets get this straight, it won’t be ‘God’ that attacks it will be disgusting bigots like The Pope!

He had no right to use his homophobia on the World Day of Peace to deliberately attack the LGBT community nor marriage Equality. That isn’t Advocating Peace!

    Stupid man!

  33. It is pointless debating, arguing, listening to and talking to the catholic church. The pope attacks us again?? Big deal…his generals have been at it again and again whenever they can , in all corners of the globe. We are at war with this institution, purely and simply.

  34. Paul in Brighton 15 Dec 2012, 10:25am

Same old tired mantra from the same old tired bigot.

What’s interesting is there’s no mention that divorce threatens marriage, or adultery and of course no mention of the threat of forced marriages, or indeed no mention of marriages involving child brides of 7 years old and so on.

Of course, were his speech to make reference to these types of traditional marriage and there effect on society, he’d run risk of colliding his faith with other faiths, and that dear friends, ain’t good for business.

So instead safer to pick on the queers. In his world, everyone still hates queers.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 15 Dec 2012, 2:32pm

And of course, he doesn’t, wouldn’t dare mention some islamic marriages wherein up to four wives are permitted since Islam’s inception, biblical too. Heterosexual polygamy of all things the very thing opponents of equal marriage claim will occur if we’re allowed to marry. It’s beyond risible. I wish someone of notoriety in the equal marriage camp would bring that up.

    2. Robert in S. Kensington 16 Dec 2012, 4:09pm

Some muslims regard polygamy as traditional marriage (it’s in the old testament) and quite common at the time, all heterosexual of course. Up to four wives are allowed. He never says anything about that, in fact none of the religious so called ‘christian’ extremists do. I wonder why?

  35. Rob Bennett 15 Dec 2012, 12:47pm

what a prat this Pope is

  36. What is it with some of these religious leaders ? The more the speak and pontificate the more irrational and idiotic they sound!

  37. Har Davids 15 Dec 2012, 1:18pm

Preaching to the gullible, just as usual. Same-sex marriage has not harmed justice and peace in those countries where they’ve become law. The fact that a large part of humanity takes this nincompoop for the real thing, doesn’t say much about us as a species.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 16 Dec 2012, 4:15pm

Quite right and if you ask them to provide the evidence, they can’t. The real threat to marriage are the hetero adulterers like Tory MPs Bob Blackman and Nadine Dorries, although I’m sure there are many more on those back benches.

  38. Pope Eggs Benedict I 15 Dec 2012, 1:23pm

Covering up child rape is an *actual* threat to justice and peace. It’s not just some lame theory based on a dusty old book written by ignorant goat herders.

  39. I went into a Catholic church recently – quite by accident, (it was in Mayfair & I was astonished by the wealth of the interior, which would probably have paid for quite a few condoms & abortions) – and discovered to my delight a book where people are invited to write down prayers to be read out by the priest (things like ‘please Lord rid me of my haemorrhoids’ and so forth). I took the opportunity to ask that a prayer be said for the Holy Father, that ‘next year he might hate the gays just a little bit less’. I’m assuming that such books might be commonplace in such places, if anyone feels moved to write in them…

    1. Pavlos Prince of Greece 15 Dec 2012, 3:06pm

I has written in one Catholic Church two years ago ‘Zapatero santo subito!’ And has feeling delicious.

  40. Yet the child molesters in his rotten church are under his protection in some way lol. He is on twitter, tweet what a hypocrite he is!

  41. IF I learned anything from the American experience as it relates to gay marriage it is this: Let them talk. Confront them with intelligence. Fight it out. Let them talk. Encourage them to talk. The more they talk the more hateful they sound. People begin to see it is not about religion, but about hate. They lose.

In 8 years time, in the U.S., gay marriage went from being supported by about 30% of the population to being supported by 51%. Keep them talking. Confront them. Keep them talking. Eventually, their hate will shine through and you will win.

In a democracy there is nothing like a nice, public fight to change attitudes in a very meaningful, lasting way.

    1. Absolutely correct! Let them talk themselves out of existence. Of course, the more enlightened members of the CofE establishment realise that making gay marriage illegal in their churches is the beginning of the end for them. They will look increasingly loopy and homophobic. I hope they hand-wring themselves into oblivion.

    2. is the same U.S. where 61% of people favor death penalty for murderers ?
do you respect this opinion or do you appreciate the majority only when it agrees with you?

  42. “Pope Benedict XVI has described same-sex marriage as a threat to justice and peace, adding that it will spark harm for society.” What harms society is unmarried priests who molest children. When is the world going to wake up and reject organised religion as a self-serving, money-making, child-molesting-enabling racket? The wealth of the Vatican is sickening when people are starving to death in the world. BREATHTAKING hypocricy.

  43. His desperate attempts to be relevant are pathetic.

    1. Robert in S. Kensington 16 Dec 2012, 4:05pm

Yes, but then he’ll be replaced with just another bigot, probably even more extreme than this former Hitler Youth member.

  46. Gay Activist Paul Mitchell 16 Dec 2012, 11:32am

I get the feeling the pope is running out of steam and running out of things to say!

Just die already and the real Jesus will love you to be in heaven to speak to you about love, dignity and acceptance in the real bible book and to love your neighbour and to repect others regardless of their status (meaning sexuality, sex, race or other religion) as a human being or any human with red blood!

The real Jesus spoke of love and dignity and not be obsessed with hating gay people and he is also so focused on speaking about hating gay marriage so much and the pope should speak up and spend his time on and of some real issues in society – like terrorism, money laundering, hunger, poverty and crime in our streets (such as gangs) – as my Catholic mother would say!

  47. What on earth is he talking about?

  48. What a thoroughly naughty boy he is!

I thought the church taught peace and understanding!…. i was wrong what an ignorant person we have as Pope. better luck next time.

  51. Julian Freeman 20 Dec 2012, 4:46am

The search for equality gets blurred by the agendas. Equal rights for LGBT & Hetro couples should be the driving force behind new legislation that should address issues of discrimination. Anti pope rhetoric does not advance or help to win the argument.

  52. I believe this pope is the absolute worst one the RC church has voted in. I think he’s a senile old goat. He can’t even control his own flock of gay priests who have harmed so many innocent little kids.

  53. “I’d like to ask the Catholic Church why it is trying to run away from dialogue, from listening, from debate,” he said.” Because nothing about the catholic church would hold up in a debate, that’s why.
