Meningitis outbreaks have occured in schools when children are meet up with each other at the start of a school year and outbreaks of the disease have happened during the Hajj Pilgrimage to Mecca and other major get-togethers when vast numbers of people are thrown together. Therefore people travelling to major gay pride events can be at risk but thankfully there is now a vaccination for the bacterial as well as the viral strains of meningitis.
