It’s a pity that the Dandy will never feature an openly gay character.

Remember the shock horror reaction way back in the 1960′s when Captain Kirk kissed Lieutenant Uhuru? The Star Trek episode, ‘Plato’s Stepchildren’ got banned because inter-racial kissing was considered taboo then.
It is regrettable that Star Trek’s creator, Gene Rodenberry died in 1991, just when everyday gay people started coming out of the closet. Had he lived another decade then I no doubt would have seen openly gay characters feature in the Star Trek franchise. It was Gene Rodenberry who gave us the first high-profile black TV character and he even suggested that Russians and Americans will one day work together in space with the introduction of Pavel Chekov, something else that has already happened. The other long running Sci-Fi TV series, Doctor Who and it’s spin-offs has already featured gay characters.

  3. Archie Comics have been going since 1942. I’ve just been looking into this new character, which I had only vaguely heard of. It’s great stuff. Have a look at when he comes out to his parents. Brought tears. Really lovely. Congratulations and thanks to Archie Comics.
