  1. All the FA will do is fine him a small amount and that will be it! They are so lame at tackling homophobic issues and childish comments like this.

    1. It’s a little ironic to use the word “lame” like that in this context.

  2. It’s clear this is banter and meant no harm by it BUT using the word ‘gay’ in a negative context has negative connotations. I don’t think he should be punished for this but just to be made aware that using the word gay in a negative way is not a good thing to do.

  3. The encouraging thing about this is that the guy quickly deleted his tweet and then apologised….It takes time for anyone to overcome their prejudices, even if at first the overcoming is for pragmatic rather than sincere reasons…

  4. If he were 29 – it would be a differnt matter – the lad screwed up – hell make amends – it’s been flagged – let’s move on.

We don’t need another hero. All we want is life beyond the Thunderdome.

  6. That’s rich coming from her!

  7. Being called gay shouldn’t require an apology – it’s not wrong to be gay. Using ‘gay’ as an insult demands an apology. (‘I apologize for calling him gay’ as opposed to ‘I’m sorry for using the word gay as an insult or slur.’)

  8. Closet case.

  9. He has learned from his mistake and even apologised… Why are we bothering with this?

Let’s deal with the people who constantly use terms like batty boy, faggot, poof etc.

    1. He might be gay but he’s still better than downing

  10. Oh let me guess what the action by the FA will be… A £1,000 fine, probably a two match ban, a slap on the wrist and told not to do it again.

Oh how pre-DICK-table the FA is.

The FA fined John Terry a substantial amount and banned him for 4 matches for a racial slur. We’ll know if the FA is sincere if they do the same to this bigot for his homophobic insult. But I bet they won’t.

  12. you take pride in your appearance, you must be gay.
    people are funny

  13. FFS is why is this even news. Is the world of gay news soooo slow that you have to trawl the Daily Mail for stories with the word gay in them. Would this even have been reported here if it had not been on the DM website?

Who photoshopped his head onto the 11 year-old’s torso?

  15. I don’t see this as a big issue. He used the word Gay in the vernacular rather than as a derogatory term. I hope the FA doesn’t punish him for this as it’ll look a bit petty. Also the guy’s apologised – that should be the end of it.

    nice teeth!

  17. Essentially saying ” That guy takes way too much care in looking good, that guy must be gay” … is not really an insult and is most certainly not worth ANY disciplinary action whatsoever especially since he deleted once it was said which implies it was just said quickly without much thought and the player is at least recognizing it could offend those most sensitive.

  18. I expect he’ll be on the cover of attitude soon.

  19. English is not his first language, may have been a clumsy attempt to use common slang, without appreciating its wider context. Something our own kids do all the time.

  20. He’s apologised and he’s 19 so a bit immature…move on… next

  21. He’s using a word “gay” to insult, with a gayface like that?

So I suppose women will be pleased to exchange a kiss with Suso and his tobacco and coffee-stained teeth? Ya, right!
