All the FA will do is fine him a small amount and that will be it! They are so lame at tackling homophobic issues and childish comments like this.
It’s a little ironic to use the word “lame” like that in this context.
It’s clear this is banter and meant no harm by it BUT using the word ‘gay’ in a negative context has negative connotations. I don’t think he should be punished for this but just to be made aware that using the word gay in a negative way is not a good thing to do.
The encouraging thing about this is that the guy quickly deleted his tweet and then apologised….It takes time for anyone to overcome their prejudices, even if at first the overcoming is for pragmatic rather than sincere reasons…
If he were 29 – it would be a differnt matter – the lad screwed up – hell make amends – it’s been flagged – let’s move on.

Being called gay shouldn’t require an apology – it’s not wrong to be gay. Using ‘gay’ as an insult demands an apology. (‘I apologize for calling him gay’ as opposed to ‘I’m sorry for using the word gay as an insult or slur.’)

I don’t see this as a big issue. He used the word Gay in the vernacular rather than as a derogatory term. I hope the FA doesn’t punish him for this as it’ll look a bit petty. Also the guy’s apologised – that should be the end of it.

Essentially saying ” That guy takes way too much care in looking good, that guy must be gay” … is not really an insult and is most certainly not worth ANY disciplinary action whatsoever especially since he deleted once it was said which implies it was just said quickly without much thought and the player is at least recognizing it could offend those most sensitive.
I expect he’ll be on the cover of attitude soon.
English is not his first language, may have been a clumsy attempt to use common slang, without appreciating its wider context. Something our own kids do all the time.
