  1. I think we need to push for Manchester to be a bit more vocal about this, too.

“Manchester and St Petersburg have a longstanding sister city link with 2012 marking the fiftieth anniversary of the relationship.”

    1. For a city with one of the most notable LGBT communities in the UK, it’s unacceptable for Manchester to have a twin-city status with St Petersburg, where a law places homosexuality and transgenderism alongside paedophilia by banning the public speaking in support of LGBT rights.

The above site speaks about International Woman’s day, but fails to mention anything to do with the new anti-equality legislation.

Really wish we could do something about this.

      I agree entirely about this.

What can we people who live in Manchester do about it?

  3. The Russian response is Hilarious…

Lawmaker Vitaly Milonov, from the ruling United Russia party, told RIA Novosti:
‘It’s a great shame that a city like Milan would take a decision like this. Of course, it’s hard for many of our European colleagues to accept our law, as many of them are members of the gay lobby.’

So are many of the citizens of St. Petersburg and your own families, so get over it!

I agree with the others. Manchester should sever ties with this homophobic Russian city.

True Venice is all ways better as clerical and homophobic ‘Venice of North’. Turin, Hamburg, Dresden and, of course, Manchester next, please!

There should also be a block put on cultural visits by their orchestras, ballet companies etc.
